      When I went, there was a box by the trailhead to sign in, pick a spot, and drop off your payment. So it was first come first serve...

    That's excellent taking her backpacking. My first real backpacking trip was at 15 in the Santa Susana Mountains now the Santa Clarita Woodland State Park, California. Since then I've day hiked and backpacked in every western state but Colorado. The west is the best for backpacking. Out here in Arizona you're more likely to run into Mtn. Lion, bob cat or the extremely rare jaguar cub, so don't pet them lol 😂

      Here in Indiana you have to watch out for those farm cats... They make your heart melt...

    Nice video! I camped spot 5 late last October (2019) in a small tent when the leaves were turning. About 55F during the day and woke up it was 34F, which is perfect to me. I set my camp chair up on the point over looking the lake for my morning coffee. A few weeks ago (Sept '20) I camped spot 6 in my hammock. It was pretty nice, large, and had a switchback down to the lake to get water. Great lake views from both.

      #5 was an awesome site. Great views. I was bummed that we weren't able to see #6 since I've heard that it is amazing too. But that just gives me another reason to return! Thanks so much for watching!

    So great that you took your daughter out on a trip! This was the spot where I went on my first solo trip before I hiked the PCT so it always holds a special little place in my heart for that. And nice to have a spot to backpack even in Northern Indiana.

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  3 роки тому

      Bloodroot to the PCT? wow that sounds like a big jump. It is kind of cool to think that that trip may someday lead to a much bigger adventure like the PCT... That would be awesome to be able to look back on this trip as the inspiration trip for her... 👍

      @@AndyParrishOutdoors I had hiked a fourteener in CO and been on a few more intense trips in Red River Gorge and Pictured Rocks with friends, but I figured I should hike a little solo trip alone before I left to boost my confidence! And it did :) I was living in Fort Wayne, IN before I left for the trail, so I couldn't get too picky, haha. I took it slow on the PCT at the beginning, and that was really a great way to build up the intensity that I couldn't get on Indiana trails.

    I'd like to do this with my kid (only 8 months now). I appreciate this video, man. I totally see the value behind connecting with nature. AND doing it with your youngling. These days most kids only see these adventures on their phones lol.

      It is such a great way to get away, recharge, and connect with nature & with those we love. I think we can all use a pause from our crazy lives every once in a while. Thanks so much for watching. And if you do take your little one someday... They'll remember it for a long time. 👍

    Thanks for making the video. We're taking a Scout trip there soon and it's really helpful to see the trail, the campsites and how close to the lake they are. I'm assuming there are not pit toilets at the backpacking sites. Is that correct?

    • @AndyParrishOutdoors
      @AndyParrishOutdoors  3 роки тому

      That is correct. There were no facilities on the trail. We used the nature center before and afterwards. Happy trails!
