@RedBeardsGarage Hey I got a dyno cams p open cam for my block and the crank will not clear it no matter what What cams have you found to be the best fit
Just when I thought I was done with honey-do's and hobby projects, I see everything that could be done to the 440 DuroMax. Well...my DuroMax has been sitting in storage for months and these upgrades are a good reason to bring it out.
Thank you again for providing us with the info for the 440. I am always catching your builds and use this info in my own builds. Appreciate you all . Regards James
I really appreciate this Dmax440 video. I've got one in my current build. Nice info to have. Incidentally, your Talon impressed me so much I bought a 1000x I will make this one street legal. Thanks for all the informative videos.
I would like to know also. I was told by someone at Duromax that the XP18HPE 440cc Engine newer design has upgraded rod and pulls 6k+ on stock internals. I called again to verify and was told by someone else that 3600 to 4000 RPM with stock internals.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Knowledge is power , your channel has grown and with it You have brought incredible knowledge to us old school small engine builder’s! Thank you 🙏 and keep making great content
I haven't seen one of your vids in 9 months!!! YT nots seem be broken for me somehow and YT borked bad last night... The last I saw!? ua-cam.com/video/5XlTos9QTzw/v-deo.html
I bought a new 440 with the D shaped starter. Definitely a 7 bolt side cover. Hopefully the guts and flywheel I will order will be the same as you show. I'm getting the 6623 ( I mounted a alternator) the 6272 rod. The 7 bolt cover is a 6059 the 10 bolt is a 6060. I believe the head gasket is a DJ-4610T which is a thick gasket. Thinner gasket is a MLS92-027.
You should use a micrometer to measure the crankshaft. The difference is knowing for sure that when you measure 1.416" that you have 1.416" plus or minus a half thousandth versus plus or minus a couple thousandth of an inch. For most of your builds it probably doesn't matter but when trying to get an engine to go all out it could make a difference. Personally I buy a lot of my measuring tools used to help lower the costs.
What about milling the mounting surface on the starter itself to give more depth to the gear? Then your fix isn't in spinning components. Not sure if it can be done but I will always have thought it could be lol
Greatings big boss. am a farm work from Jamaica working in the US and am going to build a walking tractor but am in two opinion with one of these enging predator 459 r duro max440 ? the Lord bless u🙏
So glad you did this video. I just put one on my sons Manco 616 with a 40 series torque converter and I love that thing. Right now I’m trying to figure out how to replace the back wheels on it with the hex design. Do you think I should just change out the hex axle for a 1” cylinder axle? Thanks again for all your videos helping us out!!!
I have a Hammerhead T80 go cart and need to swap out the engine. What engine should I choose for performance, the HF 224cc or the Ghost 212cc? Thanks you for your time. I enjoy your channel.
FYI The 440 that shows in your link from Amazon is a different engine than shown in the video. The block casting and covers differ, and the side cover is 7 bolt. Possibly different mfg, or updated design? (The Amazon photo is the same, the actual engine shipped is different)
Quick question Red Beard can you please also let the viewers know if a stub shaft of some sort can fit on the flywheel side of these motors and where you may find them and part number if possible? Love the videos.
So glad you did this video. Had my 440 waiting in the wings for this video and information. Any chance you know the flat top piston part number or who sells it?
I find your videos entertaining and informative. But a question is how do you put on a performance Carburetor and keep the choke.Doesn't it come off with the housing , sir
I saw in one of your older videos on the 440 you stuck with the stock piston. Do you think it is necessary to use an aftermarket one and if so, which do you recommend?
I giggle most every time the way you say you say O I L. ;)> Was trying to remember the other word you said and then you reminded me when you started talking about the COIL.. Thanks for this video, I hope to someday put it to use.
I bought 18HP duro-max 440cc non electric start which I am converting it to electric start. I've ordered already the starter and the electric switch ass'y, which I have a project to put it on a small boat. I want to buy a billet flywheel plus the flywheel ring gear and the insert that you are talking about in your video. I just want to know how much it will going to cost me. Thanks!
Where can you still buy one of these old style engines? All I can find are the 7 bolt side cover ones with the D-shaped pull start. What is compatible between the old ones and the new ones?
What’s the best way to get more charging from a 440? I have seen an 18 amp Honda 4 post charging coil that I don’t know if it really puts it out. It was $150 plus the needed flywheel with 4 magnets was about $50. Or would putting a alternator pulley on the end of my comet 780 be a better option?
Greg have fuel issues with engine swap to a 2009 Yamaha, installed DuroMax 18 hp engine and 2 to 5 pound electric fuel pump because fuel tank low fuel sucks air and starves for gas now fuel by passes needle and seat with stock carb, ideas?? has stock carb.
I just purchased the DuroMax 18 hp 440cc. Did they make 2 different Block versions? Mine only has 7 Bolts holding the cover on? Update: So after some research it appears the XP18HPX uses a 7 bolt side cover. I ordered the XP18HPE. The box that the engine came in says its what I ordered but the block says a different story. Anybody know of any other way to tell the difference?
DO A VIDEO ON THE NEW PREDATOR 459 I WANTED TO KNOW IF ALL THE PERFORMANCE PARTS FOR THE PREDATOR 420 WILL FIT THE 459 ESPECIALLY AN UPGRADED CARBURETOR
The only parts that fit it is the cam, carb, and exhaust. The rod and flywheel are different and I don't think no one is going to make parts for it. I will make a video in the next couple of days on it though.
I have one of these on my surface drive. Wondering if I could drill a hole in the valve cover and use a fuel pump to run a bigger fuel tank or if you'd recommend running a carb with a vacuum line instead? Also would like to upgrade the charging system as it is electric start and I run LED lights on my boat so it would be nice to run at least the small ones that way
i have a 439cc Duramax motor from a campion type of generator. It has a "very short power output shaft" that fits into the generator stator parts. Is there a different crankshaft available that I can I replace it with in order to bolt it to a 40 series torque converter?

Hello great videos, can you please tell me what size carb jets to get for intake and header upgrade on stock carb, starts good then falls on its face , won't rev ,popping thanks
do you build these for mud boat motors the record is 64mph i feel like this 18 horse built right could get you going 45 to 50 on the water i havent seen one built yet but it makes a big diffrence in these carts
Please I need help finding the retainers for this engine! I’ve been stuck for a couple months due to searching, I lost 1 of the tiny little retainer pieces😢
I have the stock version of this engine but it is set up for a generator and I need a carburetor that I can get it to idle the lowest idle is 1600 rpm and max is 3600 rpm and it interferes with my transmission and the high idle is slipping the clutch and won’t let me get it out of gear when running. I have put it in a golf cart project to use around my place and was wondering what you would recommend for a good carburetor for it that will allow me to slow the idle speed down so I can shift from forward to reverse without shutting off the engine and help you may offer would be great I watch you quit often and figure you may offer a solution to this problem, great job and thanks for anything you can tell me!😊
@@bradensmith888 Yes I have done everything I could to try and slow the idle down but it will not go under 1600 rpm and I’m thinking of ordering a GX 390 or something similar that will have the adjustable idle the factory tech said that the way they are set up because it’s for a generator and I knew all that but thought they might have a answer but they didn’t. Part of my problem might be I put the driven pulley directly on the transmission shaft and shimmed it to fit correctly with key instead of adding a jack shaft and extra gears but with the golf cart the rear end gears are part of the problem as well I think it needs to be setup like a bicycle with big gear on the front and a small on the rear because the transmission will only take a 10 or 11 tooth on the transmission and I put the 10 tooth on the differential and it will spin the wheels on takeoff but levels out quickly and no more speed so I will get back on it and fix it after I get done with 2 Ford tractors I have been restoring and thanks for your reply 😊

I lifted the cart up 4” and put 10” wheels and tires on it and the gear ratio was changed that made it slow I still have to build the exhaust system to because the factory muffler is about a inch and a half from the bottom of the seat and I need to change that so I don’t burn the new seats but I hope that I can get back on it in the near future and will let you know what all I got done with it.

Normally I don't go for endorsed items, but after shopping around, I ended up getting one of these 18hp Duromax engines to repower a '77 214; they've got a lot of nice features for the money, and plenty of reputable people use 'em harder than I ever intend to. Honestly I don't understand the hate I got for even suggesting the idea to people. "Rebuild it, don't stick that Chinese junk in there." Believe me, the first idea was to rebuild, but the guy that had it before me Destroyed the original engine. Would have cost a grand just in tooling to fix it right. After looking at Briggs V-twins and such, 2K is too much to dump into just an engine. Might as well go get a new ride. Even if you do rebuild them, where ya think all those parts come from? Sure won't find a US guy bulk casting rebuild kits for $200...
Red Beard, I've got a problem, please help. I recently bought a 500cc Duromax generator rated at 20 hp. The valve cover has 4 bolts, unlike a GX390 Honda which has the single, central bolt. The generator had a bent pushrod that measures a bit over 190mms. What really surprised me is there is no pushrod guide, and the rocker arms don't have have a stud in the center of the arms. Have you had any experience or seen anything like this? BTW, it resembles the 440cc motor you tear down in this video, but it is different. Thanks

I am trying to help my nephew build a Yerf dog into a beast like yours. He bought a 440cc duromax, but I am not sure what CVT to use. Any suggestions?

HAve you ever used one of those 12vdc turbos on a build?
Red Beard, I've got a problem, please help.
I recently bought a 500cc Duromax generator rated at 20 hp. The valve cover has 4 bolts, unlike a GX390 Honda which has the single, central bolt. The generator had a bent pushrod that measures a bit over 190mms. What really surprised me is there is no pushrod guide, and the rocker arms don't have have a stud in the center of the arms. Have you had any experience or seen anything like this? BTW, it resembles the 440cc motor you tear down in this video, but it is different.
Thanks
