These videos are awesome! Just bought this engine last week for our cart project. Thanks for making this video. 3yrs later and still helping folks like us 👍
Amsoil is definitely the king of oil. They won Project Farm’s oil competition.
After a lot of testimonies and reviews I read I fully switched!
I switched about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Amazing oils and everything.
And all of Greg’s viewers can save up to 25% off
How many giant billion dollar factories do you think there are for making the stuff?
@RedBeardsGarage
Hey I got a dyno cams p open cam for my block and the crank will not clear it no matter what
What cams have you found to be the best fit
Thank you again for providing us with the info for the 440. I am always catching your builds and use this info in my own builds. Appreciate you all .
Regards
James
You guys used the old school intro that I haven't seen in a while. Been with you guys since the beginning and love your content.
Thank you for supporting us all these years man! It means a lot.
Could you do one going more in depth on the differences between the older models and the D shape pull start 440s?
I would like to know also. I was told by someone at Duromax that the XP18HPE 440cc Engine newer design has upgraded rod and pulls 6k+ on stock internals. I called again to verify and was told by someone else that 3600 to 4000 RPM with stock internals.
Just when I thought I was done with honey-do's and hobby projects, I see everything that could be done to the 440 DuroMax. Well...my DuroMax has been sitting in storage for months and these upgrades are a good reason to bring it out.
I really appreciate this Dmax440 video. I've got one in my current build. Nice info to have. Incidentally, your Talon impressed me so much I bought a 1000x I will make this one street legal. Thanks for all the informative videos.
What was the outcome for HP now with the aftermarket parts?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Knowledge is power , your channel has grown and with it You have brought incredible knowledge to us old school small engine builder’s! Thank you 🙏 and keep making great content
I appreciate that!
Always so thorough 👌 That's why I watch RBG 💪☮️
This is the first notification I've had in months!!!
I'm checking how many vids YT has made me miss!!!

YT nots seem be broken for me somehow and YT borked bad last night...
The last I saw!?

I run that exact oil in all my builds and their OE oil in my cars and trucks, best oil by far.
Awesome video as usual very thorough description of all the content have a great day
Did you ever end up releasing the ring gear spacer?
Another great video dude.
Yes. The. Motor. And. The. Stage to. 40 tav. Msd coil. And. My. Lil. Touch. A blue. Cdi. Yea. First. Big. Block. Build. I think. This. Is. One of. The. Best. Builds. U. Do. Brother. Thank u. For. The. Vids.
Definitely going to have to do this to my duromax
Great quality vid as always. Small engine master.
I bought a new 440 with the D shaped starter. Definitely a 7 bolt side cover. Hopefully the guts and flywheel I will order will be the same as you show. I'm getting the 6623 ( I mounted a alternator) the 6272 rod. The 7 bolt cover is a 6059 the 10 bolt is a 6060. I believe the head gasket is a DJ-4610T which is a thick gasket. Thinner gasket is a MLS92-027.
did that 6623 flywheel end up fitting right? or have you not ordered yet, iwas lookin at the same flywheel, and the .308 cam
@KobeGriffin I contacted duromax and they said the only change is the recoil start cover that changed.
Greatings big boss. am a farm work from Jamaica working in the US and am going to build a walking tractor but am in two opinion with one of these enging predator 459 r duro max440 ? the Lord bless u🙏
What about milling the mounting surface on the starter itself to give more depth to the gear? Then your fix isn't in spinning components. Not sure if it can be done but I will always have thought it could be lol
Can you add a link to the starter ring gear, didnt see it in the description. Also great content as always.
ARC sells the flywheel and ring gear as a kit and it looks like it comes with spacers to put between the two to get the right starter engagement
Is there any difference between the 10 bolt side cover vs 7 besides the obvious
You should use a micrometer to measure the crankshaft. The difference is knowing for sure that when you measure 1.416" that you have 1.416" plus or minus a half thousandth versus plus or minus a couple thousandth of an inch. For most of your builds it probably doesn't matter but when trying to get an engine to go all out it could make a difference. Personally I buy a lot of my measuring tools used to help lower the costs.
What about charging for the battery and any lights? How do you make that work?
Quick question Red Beard can you please also let the viewers know if a stub shaft of some sort can fit on the flywheel side of these motors and where you may find them and part number if possible?
Love the videos.
i ordered the magnetic dipstick in your description and it too fat to thread into the oil bung. 😕
Please email what engine you are trying to use it on. greg@rbgkarts.com
What do you think was the total cost to upgrade like this? Have a 440 on a mud motor and want to crank her up.
Red beer I'm a big fan of your show best little confusing jumping one from one thing to another?
I have been waiting for this video now I can get to spending the money 🤑🤑
Where can you still buy one of these old style engines? All I can find are the 7 bolt side cover ones with the D-shaped pull start. What is compatible between the old ones and the new ones?
Any idea when where I could get the spacer for the starter ring?
I giggle most every time the way you say you say O I L. ;)> Was trying to remember the other word you said and then you reminded me when you started talking about the COIL.. Thanks for this video, I hope to someday put it to use.
😁
I'd be interested to see what it'd take to put this into a Trailmaster Hurricane
And thank you for being a great teacher. God Bless.
What is the highest performance upgrade you would do to a stock 390 while retaining the charging system
What flat top piston would you use? I would like to bump up the compression.
How many different types of flat tops are there? If there are many options it'd just depend on how much you want to increase compression.
So glad you did this video. I just put one on my sons Manco 616 with a 40 series torque converter and I love that thing. Right now I’m trying to figure out how to replace the back wheels on it with the hex design. Do you think I should just change out the hex axle for a 1” cylinder axle? Thanks again for all your videos helping us out!!!
Yes, swap it for the 1".
FYI The 440 that shows in your link from Amazon is a different engine than shown in the video. The block casting and covers differ, and the side cover is 7 bolt. Possibly different mfg, or updated design? (The Amazon photo is the same, the actual engine shipped is different)
3:10 those stud bolts. Mine got hit with a hammer by an angry old man. Where do I buy more stud bolts for this?
Thanks for the videos and Thanks for your time
Important question, how can I get the starter ring gear? I can’t find it on the website and it did not come with my billet flywheel :(
I bought 18HP duro-max 440cc non electric start which I am converting it to electric start. I've ordered already the starter and the electric switch ass'y, which I have a project to put it on a small boat. I want to buy a billet flywheel plus the flywheel ring gear and the insert that you are talking about in your video. I just want to know how much it will going to cost me. Thanks!
I would love to see this engine on a trailmaster
So glad you did this video. Had my 440 waiting in the wings for this video and information.
Any chance you know the flat top piston part number or who sells it?
Did u ever get a piston part number?
@@TheJojoe88 I did. I’d have to look. But I def got it from studz racing. 460 piston 92mm think it was $45
What’s the best way to get more charging from a 440? I have seen an 18 amp Honda 4 post charging coil that I don’t know if it really puts it out. It was $150 plus the needed flywheel with 4 magnets was about $50. Or would putting a alternator pulley on the end of my comet 780 be a better option?
Would like to know what size magnetic dipstick I can use. Would it be 18m×2.5 ?
Greg have fuel issues with engine swap to a 2009 Yamaha, installed DuroMax 18 hp engine and 2 to 5 pound electric fuel pump because fuel tank low fuel sucks air and starves for gas now fuel by passes needle and seat with stock carb, ideas?? has stock carb.
Please I need help finding the retainers for this engine! I’ve been stuck for a couple months due to searching, I lost 1 of the tiny little retainer pieces😢
What performance parts fit the newer one? Thanks Greg.
i have a 439cc Duramax motor from a campion type of generator. It has a "very short power output shaft" that fits into the generator stator parts. Is there a different crankshaft available that I can I replace it with in order to bolt it to a 40 series torque converter?
How about a chain clutch that will hold 18hp? I cant find one only 13hp trying to avoid the whole torque converter set up want clutch to axle.
How to get this engine to idle without engaging the torque converter . I need it to idle at lower rpms....
I find your videos entertaining and informative. But a question is how do you put on a performance Carburetor and keep the choke.Doesn't it come off with the housing , sir
Where's the link for a starter ring gear on the flywheel. GPS only shows the flywheel. I would like to keep the starter.
It's a long shot but where can I find the correct piston rings for my xp18hpe
I just purchased the DuroMax 18 hp 440cc. Did they make 2 different Block versions? Mine only has 7 Bolts holding the cover on? Update: So after some research it appears the XP18HPX uses a 7 bolt side cover. I ordered the XP18HPE. The box that the engine came in says its what I ordered but the block says a different story. Anybody know of any other way to tell the difference?
Be cool if we could keep the generator system with the aluminum flywheel.
They stoped making the 10 bolt cover and now it is only 7. I purchased it for that specific reason. The motor was dirty inside when i got it like resiny fuel had been setting on the cylinder. One of the recoil arms snapped off.
I have a Hammerhead T80 go cart and need to swap out the engine. What engine should I choose for performance, the HF 224cc or the Ghost 212cc? Thanks you for your time. I enjoy your channel.
The Duromax 440 on Duromax Website they show only 7 bolts on the side cover. Amazon has pictures of it showing 10. Pretty sure the model numbers were the same. Just want to be sure they still make the stronger side cover and they aren't cheaping out. I know the wildcat 460 is 10 bolt but flywheels won't work. Anyone know for sure?
Thanks for the video👌 Do these parts also work on the newer style 440cc duromax with the 7 bolt side cover?
Do you know if the ARC throttle-plate (P/N: DJ-3146) fits this engine?
do you build these for mud boat motors the record is 64mph i feel like this 18 horse built right could get you going 45 to 50 on the water i havent seen one built yet but it makes a big diffrence in these carts
you probably should of debured the edges of the shaft key slot before pre-fitting the aluminum flywheel. you took a lot of material off that flywheel.
How much hp do you get from removing the balancer? Do you notice the difference in vibration?
What was the length for the push rods with the champion rockers
Would you put the gx390 stock flywheel on here?? Would that be better then the stock flywheel
I just bought a 440 and electric start and my stock rod had the bearing insert and the side cover is 7 bolts. What billet rod are you running?
Why do alot of exhaust flanges and exhaust say they wont fit the duromax 440s?
Im assuming air filter and stock throttle setup/linkages are the same as the gx390/pred420?
What was the total cost of this build? if you dont mind me asking
I have one of these on my surface drive. Wondering if I could drill a hole in the valve cover and use a fuel pump to run a bigger fuel tank or if you'd recommend running a carb with a vacuum line instead? Also would like to upgrade the charging system as it is electric start and I run LED lights on my boat so it would be nice to run at least the small ones that way
So my question is what exactly needs to be done if all I want to do is remove the governor and change out the carburetor? Is there anything else that I should change for durability reasons?
P.S.
I have a duromax with the D shaped pill start but I'd imagine at the least the 34mm carburetor would fit.
What's the difference between the ones with the D shaped pill start and the round pull start?
Do you have a parts list for the 18hp d shaped pill start?
@@bradensmith888 interesting that there are 2 completely different motors but they are yet the same. Unfortunately I have one with a D shaped pull start
@@bradensmith888 very unfortunate... Hopefully someone can fill out needs for parts/parts list for the D shaped pull start engines. Do these have the oil switch inside them still? Im looking to use this engine on my manco 2 seater kart.
@@bradensmith888 is there a way to just disconnect the electric to the oil switch rather than pointlessly tearing down the entire engine to remove it?
@@bradensmith888 I'm hoping that @Red Beard's Garage can help to shed some light on these D shaped pull starts and what we can and can't do with them (that so didn't tag him correctly and I don't know why)
@@bradensmith888 are these the only real differences? The head gaskets?
What about the 500cc ? Does it have aftermarket support?
Can anyone tell me the stock size valves in the 440cc cant find anything anywhere
Since VegasCarts discontinued the 460, would there be any issues on swapping the 460 con rod into the 440?
It should work perfectly fine in there.
Well now I know what I'm gonna do when I get a 440!
how much hp does this engine make with all these upgrades?
I can't find the description as so I can order the parts for 440 Duramax engine please
What octane is needed with the flat top?
Probably minimum of 89 or 91.
hey mate can I used methanol for this set up
what model is that engine? i need the pull start assembly do you have the part no. for that please?
Are there recharging coils for these? On the flywheel,, couldn’t the ring gear be milled out to fit around and be welded to the flywheel?
What size billet rod is it??
Why does the balancer have a bearing but the cam does not?
@RedBeardsGarage why would you go for the 308 cam versus the 275?
Hello great videos, can you please tell me what size carb jets to get for intake and header upgrade on stock carb, starts good then falls on its face , won't rev ,popping thanks
What size carb is that part number please
Does anyone know the part # for the flat top piston that fits the 440cc duromax? And were to buy it.
I just got mine today
Thank you!
I saw in one of your older videos on the 440 you stuck with the stock piston. Do you think it is necessary to use an aftermarket one and if so, which do you recommend?
Will a GX390 head assembly work on the 18hp DuroMax? I’m having a difficult time finding parts
Does the Duromax 440 have a ball bearing on both the flywheel side AND the PTO side? You never showed the inside of the side cover.
Can you tell me what carb can we upgrade to on a stock 18hp duromax?
Can they be fuel injected?
DO A VIDEO ON THE NEW PREDATOR 459 I WANTED TO KNOW IF ALL THE PERFORMANCE PARTS FOR THE PREDATOR 420 WILL FIT THE 459 ESPECIALLY AN UPGRADED CARBURETOR
The only parts that fit it is the cam, carb, and exhaust. The rod and flywheel are different and I don't think no one is going to make parts for it. I will make a video in the next couple of days on it though.
@@RedBeardsGarage THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE REPLY AND INFO
Hoping to get a reply I’ve been watching all you builds but the duromax 440 is what I’m putting in a golf cart and I was installing new valve springs and on of the keepers shot in to space, can’t find it anywhere so I’m just wondering where to get the new ones. I ordered a set of 6.5 form omb that the guy suggested but they are completely different I believe they may be 5.5 but not sure/ middle to lower groove is what i need as well please help
Does arc have a warranty for the billet flywheel I have one and the key way sheered and messed up the flywheel
