- First up is the TV special aired on opening night of the 1992 Broadway revival of "Guys and Dolls" (Nathan Lane, Faith Prince, Peter Gallagher). It was more or less the first of its kind, and these specials continued through 1998, with a comeback in 2001 for "The Producers." The special is followed (at 46:35) by a slew of additional TV material on this "Guys and Dolls" revival, including opening night reviews, features, interviews, and musical numbers. You even get a glimpse of Carolyn Mignini, the Sarah who was let go during previews and replaced by Josie de Guzman. The press reel for this production is at • GUYS AND DOLLS '92
My uncle played big Julie in this production. I remember coming to New York City for the first time at 14 to see him and the rest of the cast. What an absolutely spectacular production from beginning to end. Though I may be a little biased.
I saw this production twice as a kid and it is seared into my memory. It was my first Broadway musical. It was incredible and there will never be another gathering of talent like this again. The orchestrations alone- they don’t produce shows like this these days. Also, there are rarely revivals like this that are HUGE deals like this show was that aren’t headlined by a big star.
Loved this production AND I was honored to write the Dance Music for it too. Here’s to GUYS AND DOLLS!
You did a fine job, and the dance numbers were a highlight of this production.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 Thanks!
This revival was beyond breathtaking-that cast was perfect and the production itself was so colorful and full of life. The era of the mega musical was falling out of step and this came along and blew everyone away. It embraced the cartoon world in the way it was originally intended to be - and yet made it feel like something brand new! I’ve heard about this special but have never seen it - so thank you very much for posting this Spiderwoman!
Hope you enjoy this.
What a wonderful memory! If I close my eyes, I’m back in the Martin Beck, watching this with my mother. ❤️
I know someone out there, in the vastness of the theatre world, has this entire show on b-roll and I hope one day that person comes forward for the betterment of all.
Y'all know that's JK Simmons, the Oscar winner, flanking Nathan at &t=8:45?? Super Seattle-area and general-NW actor in the 70s who found his way, through a whole lotta talent, to the highest level of the biz. Cheers, Kim!
Thank you for posting this!!
Priceless!
I had NO idea this ever existed! Thanks SO much aurora spiderwoman!
What a fabulous treat! Thank you for this.
When an actor takes his name from Nathan Detroit you know ‘he’s in there somewhere’.
It was meant to be HIS role.
I looooove this production. I played Nathan Detroit on 1999, it's a great musical with gorgeous music.
I could watch Faith Prince and Nathan Lane do SUE ME on and on and on - it cracks me up every time! Simply hilarious
You keep on to amaze us!!! ♥️ Thank you so much for this exciting special
What a fantastic show. Really fabulous.
For the revival (which Bill Condon is preparing), we would like to hire Nathan Lane...Even for a role other than Nathan Detroit.
Nathan Lane (my crush). I love him so much. Is so Underrated in Hollywood (Always now), movie or tv show, shame Hollywood, shame.
Fantastic actor, he's so awesome in every genre he plays : The Birdcage, Mousehunt, Guys And Dolls, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Love! Valour!Compassion!, The Lisbon Traviata, Odd Couple, The Producers, The Iceman Cometh, The Nance (❤️), Angels in America (👏👏), The Good Wife, American Crime Story or Penny Dreadful City of Angels (One of it's best role on TV).
I love this a bushel and a peck!
Amazing!
I love Jim Ryan, Julie Golden, and Gordon Elliot.
Does anyone know where I can find the full length play? I have been looking for a few weeks but I still can't find it.
Why did they substitute the Sara brown
She really was not working out--seemed a bit too old for Peter Gallagher, etc.
I wondered that too. Would love to know more details on that. Must have been a big letdown for her, and a huge win for Josie De Guzman.
I love Terry Moore.
