- Here's my cover of Atomic Punk from Van Halen's debut album. One of the first songs I learned when I discovered tab videos on UA-cam. I had no idea how he did the hand scrape sound at the time, I'm still not 100% on if it's with his pick or just his hand, but thankfully no one was around to hear me practicing that at 13 cause boy did I make it sound awful! On to more songs from the album!
Please like, share, and subscribe if you enjoyed the video so I can keep posting content!

That was impeccable. Musicians are just other worldly.
You nailed that punk!!!
Couldn't make it to the end of the video before commenting. You absolutely NAILED that intro, and you're killing it man. Great tone and even better playing, man!!!
Incredible playing! Love the green PRS
Wow never knew it was an upstroke at the end of the second verse! Atomic punk is a very underrated cut from the first Album, rock on brother!🤘🏽
OH THIS IS IT! LOVE THIS ONE!
Wow! Let's talk about the recording chain. It looks like you're recording direct with the Nembrini model, which sounds excellent btw, and using the live amp power section and speaker cab just for feedback? Genius idea! I do something similar, but use an Sustainiac transducer which physically vibrates the guitar neck, while direct recording.
Yea that’s exactly right! I’m happy someone finally payed attention to all that and pieced it all together 😂 I wish I had something like that for the feedback as the speaker cab is obviously pretty loud. My trick is to automate an EQ in that focuses on the frequency I want to feed back so that it’s more consistent.
sPOT ON
killin it !!!
EXCELLENT!!!
Phenomenal! Nailed it!
F yeah man great work!!
Great cover!
Dude, excellent job, well done! You rocked it!
Absolutely crushed it
THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME BRO 👍🤟🔥😲
That's the ffnshit glue that keeps us rock in out
Doing his style right! Great effects!
Knocked that out of THE PARK!.!.!.!
Shit that tone is spot on! Great cover bro.
Thanks man! Check out Nembrini their amp sims are so good 🤘
Nice.
On a Boogie Mk IV and PRS no less... Well played.
Love this tune... and great playing ❤❤❤❤
Great job!
If I wasn't looking at the video I would think I was listening to the original. AWESOME JOB!!! You are channeling Eddie and I hope he is watching you from above.
I can't wait to hear more VH1 tracks. If you nail "I'm the One" and "Eruption", I hope Wolfgang notices and reaches out to you.
I assume you will be doing all DLR songs from VH2, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down, and 1984?
Definitely planning on working my way through all the DLR stuff! I started working on the debut album for fun at the beginning of my fall semester and decided I'd record each song and that's what I've been doing for the last month now. I'm the One is coming up next! Saving Eruption for last...
@@andrewww.ouellette I also can't wait to hear Jamie's Cryin
Sounds awesome!!! Would you mind sharing the position of the knobs on the flanger for this?
Yes! MXR flanger with manual, width, and speed all at 11 o clock, and the regen at max. A little different sounding than the EVH button i think but that’s also in the ballpark.
@@andrewww.ouellette Thank you!!
@@andrewww.ouellette Have you ever been able to nail down the exact flanger setting on unchained? Bc I don’t feel like even with the EVH button pushed on the flanger pedal that it has the correct timed sweep
@SimsCustomGuitars I haven’t exactly tried to do that yet, I do know what you mean I feel like the timing on the EVH mode is a little off. Im not sure exactly how the circuit works but it sounds to me like the sweeping circuit is always running so when you step on it, you’re not starting the sweep, just letting out whatever part the circuit is at. That seems to be why every time you step on the pedal especially for those short little accents he does, it sounds totally different. If i do ever really nail it down with different settings than what I just said, I’ll get back to you!
@@andrewww.ouellette You are exactly right!
Man, you nailed it. Try this and see what you think. At the end of the song, when you play the descending E bar chord D bar chord C# bar chord... Instead of a C# play this. A string - 4th fret D string - 7th fret G string - 6th fret. The next one is... A string - 3rd fret. D string - 7th fret. G string - 5th fret. As soon as your ear hears it, a bell is gonna go off in your head! (DING) It did when I was shown this! I hope you think this is pretty cool!
The B and E strings are open same as with the E and D power chord. FYI
Wow thank you! That's a good tip! Man those notes on the D string do not ring out super clearly with this tone. I think I went back and forth between the power chords and these voicings for like 10 minutes before I could really hear them in the original.
@@andrewww.ouellette During the 1984 tour I was close enough to the front I could watch his hands. I was seeing so much I couldn’t remember shit by the time I got home. But I remember that! General admission Van Halen show! Tickets were like $12.50!
Damn I’m jealous! I never had the chance to see him live. That must have been an absolutely insane experience
@@andrewww.ouellette yes sir. I got to see Van Halen 4 times in my life. First time in 1984 when I was 17 and the last time was in 2015 with my 17 year old son. Hard to believe he’s gone but, we lived to witness greatness!
Paul reed and a boogie ...dude your fire and killer👍
great job im a fellow guitarist on youtube too 🤘
thanks man, I think I gotta dance around a little more while I play like you 😂 U and Eddie make it look fun!
Please tell me those are not stock PRS pups..... Great playing, killer tone... what else is there man.
Lol it really is just the stock 85/15s in there! It needs a little EQ in post but it sounds great with the Nembrini MRH159.
Hiding settings and acting to a pre-recorded track! Done a million times!! If you could just play yourself nothing live i'd be impressed....
I guess I’ll take it as a compliment you can’t believe your eyes (and ears)! Definitely recorded the guitar you’re hearing while the video is recording. There is no Eddie in the backing track. If you’re thrown off by all the knobs on the amp being down, it’s because I’m just using the power amp and none of the knobs actually do anything because they control the preamp which I’m not plugged into. 👍
Please post your vid here, of you playing this song. If you cannot, PLEASE STFU.
@@andrewww.ouelletteWhy don't you play without the backing track. And why do you need to post videos of yourself for validation?
You sound just like Eddie.
🤟🤟🤟The boogie sound great man
Edit: hold on, the light is on but no cord plugged in
I’m using the boogie as a power amp only so I’m plugged into the FX return! I use a Nembrini plugin that’s modeled after Ed’s Marshall and then I run it into the Boogie so I can get feedback
@@andrewww.ouellette ok wow cool👍 sounds great
