Used to have one of these stump grinders. Problem was leaving the roots behind. Have used a track steer with a root fork ever since. Takes 5 minutes to lift the stump, roots and then shed it with the quick attach for the blade to backfill the hole. Root fork $1200 versus $5500 for grinder.
I try to give my wood away before loading it, we have so much it's impossible to keep up with,, this idea of a stumper seems stupid unless you own a grove. The reason to cut the stump lower is to save time cleaning up the stump grindings... Still impressive though
I’ve worked for a company that manufactures attachments for heavy equipment assembling them but this right here I would have loved to put together. That’s a beast. Chewed through that like as if it was butter.

@@atticus9907 Have you ever seen a tree blown over all the rocks stuck in the bottom of the roots. If you try and cut the tree too low all the rocks around the bottom of the tree. That's why you have so many overgrown brush because you can't mow it without moving piles of rocks.
@@atticus9907 ... next time there's a storm, go look closely at an uprooted tree. Quite often the root ball is loaded with rocks, at least here in New England. If you are in farm country, there's always the possibility of various fence remnants.... barbed wire, gate posts, etc.

Me, I just had it cut to the ground, let it sit for a year, dug some of it out, put some gas in it, let it burn. burned out in about 3 days. Dug up the roots, simple and FREE :)
Yeah, a chain saw could have gotten down to that depth,…an hour earlier. And considering the time, effort and the expense of that piece of machinery,…what am I missing here?

Quick & clean looking. Problem: plenty of us know that the largest issue one will encounter concerning stump-grinder dudes, involves incomplete work *below the level of the ground*… So yes, for me, this is to the point of a fraudulent-level misinterpretation of the “stump-grinding of this 15” Oak stump!*
Back in the day you could clear that stump with a chest auger and a quarter stick of dynamite. I'm glad we now have far more expensive ways to maim ourselves.

Very nice attachment... my uncle's got the cat 299d I believe it's called. It's the biggest skidsteer cat makes... hes got a stump bucket, looks like the jaws of a alligator with 3 teeth in the front, but he doesnt have one of those. Those are nice. The only benefit to the stump bucket is y get the WHOLE stump out. Roots and all

By cleaning the ground around the stump, a chainsaw can cut 1/2” above the ground. Basically removing the stump, and getting another piece of firewood

This only works when you don't have to remove under the ground as well. Sand is a killer for your device.
