Because of the people in these comments, I will say this. Since the beginning, humanity has used similar boats, cooking techniques, etc. However, the ones described in the video are specific. Take for example the Bangka boat. It looks slightly similar to a canoe however, they have differences like any other. This video is merely pointing out Native American cultures that have become a very recognizable part of American culture today.
Hope this helped somehow, I love learning about different cultures and get excited😂

Atavism is one hell of a drug. Canoes, barbecue and bathing are things that many cultures arrive at WITHOUT direct input. Saying any particular culture “invented” these things is a prime example of what happens when you learn history through anecdote without real discipline.

There are archetypes that are consistent throughout all cultures. The word "canoe" may be of Arawak origin but sea and river vessels very similar if not identical to the canoe have existed since time immemorial. So is cooking over and open pit. Culture in the Americas is a combination of the cultures of all of our ancestors. Those who were indigneous, ensalved and colonizers.

@@gregrobinette8620 I never said that pre Columbian culture was a mixture. Obviously it is today though which is precisely why we have Spanish, French and English surnames. I said that cooking over an open pit is something that people did all , uninfluenced by each other, hence the archetype. The etymology of word that we now use in the English language for that style of cooking came from the Lukunu but they did not invent the method of cooking.

Fyi American History they teach is filled with so called your “culture” and that side of the world. Give respect where its due. Yea you guys had Roman Bath houses but Greco- Roman "baths" were not for washing up, but centers of orgies. It was the Europeans lack of hygiene that kept them stuck in savagery for so many millennia's. In fact, the Native Americans/American Indians said they were stinky and they attempted to teach the Europeans how to bathe, and they rejected it! how to grow crops like Maize, Potatoes, Melons, Papaya, Beans, esc. (Over 80 percent of the worlds food crops are indigenous to these lands) and settle down, we had aquifers that brought fresh water and a functioning sewer system that they took and brought over there. The colonization of Africa/America was partly due to their diseases they brought which killed millions. Educate yourself on OUR culture ✌🏽

Yea but you gotta define taino because most people from the Caribbean have some taino or arowak or carib blood but basically nobody has any significant amount. Old world diseases wiped out most of the indigenous (genetically speaking)and the fact that is hard to escape diseases when you are
on a island with them. The people that have the "look" that people associate with indigenous peoples are really mostly of European and west african descent because if they didnt have those genes the diseases would have disposed of their ancestors. It is what it is

I still meet indigenous people that speak the languages of the maya and secondary spanish and I wish they continued to speak the original languages but for work and for society they and their kids learn english and spanish causing them to lose a little more of that identity. 2nd gen American here. Been through a lot in my life... Was in the hospital the other day and I was searching for an answer to the truth, but now I realized today with the help of some nature and some 🌿💨
that we're all just one people and we have to connect to our ancestors and our true people not where we currently are in society or the system. It's been a journey after my existential crisis almost a year ago back in January-Mayish and since I started seeking help I started learning more about Spirituality and how to heal and meditate. I've also done extensive research on the origins of religion, the universe and governments, and now after finally going through the seeking to prevent my younger cousin from facing the same intergenerational trauma that we've all faced and of course that blew up back at me and triggered painful memories... I then started to break down and try my best to explain the truth about the origins and secrets about Monotheistic religions like Catholicism and how they're indoctrinated into believing all of this when in reality is isn't all the truth and there's a lot about entheogens used in ancient times with religion to connect with higher beings that they have to learn about. I tried my best but they thought I was crazy. I was also angry at my mom because of the emotional neglect and things she did to me as a child and it just got out of hand. Now I'm at my dad's side of the family and I'm doing my best to learn more about our roots and how to go through the stages of Spirituality.

Actually, the Indians are not Taino they are Arawak. The term in arawak language Taino means "Good people." If you're from Puerto Rico, the original name is Boriken. That makes you Borikua or Borincano. Puerto Rican is not our identity.

Native American is a term given to, used by, recognized as Apache, Mohican, Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Sioux, Chickasaw, etc in the United States. Taino Indians were more inclusive to Puerto Rico as Eskimo Indians are to Alaska and the Métis tribes to Canada. Not forgetting the Indians in the Americas❤❤❤

I just have to correct something that was said in this video. You stated that BBQ was stolen by the colonizers. To steal something means you take something away from someone. So the fact that everyone is capable of using this cooking technique means it was not stolen. It was learned. I think people should be more careful and deliberate with their words as to only speak facts and keep emotions out of it.

There are entire BATH houses in Rome that predate the Spaniards finding the New World by over a thousand years. It's common knowledge that Scandinavian populations bathed regularly (about once a week) in Medieval times... also before the founding of the New World. Mediterranean peoples used olive oil as soap and Western Europe used a mixture of water, lye, and animal fat. Not to mention, Europeans have been bathing in streams and other water sources since Stone Age times. Pretty obvious they weren't taught by natives to bathe.

I can't find anything to counter your argument, but Europeans clearly weren't hygienic, far from it. As you said once a week, which is absolutely disgusting. The Mēxihkah couldn't handle the stinking odor of the Spaniards so they waved them with big fans and lit incenses to ease the smell. The Roman bathhouses were packed and they had communal sponges for wiping. Even many white people to this day don't wash their limbs.

What are you talking about? I say kichwa. Made up by the Spaniards because my ancestors didn’t create such ethnic divides with pointless labeling within the same people. If we described something it wasn’t a fixed term enforced by government classifications. The terms were just use to the describe the others. If they fished they were known as fishermen, if they lived near the mountains they were mountain dwellers etc. and if that changed they’d receive another name. now we have these labels enforced by government and education so we are forced to use them. If I speak kichwa amongst kichwa I can use our preferred term Runa but if they don’t speak kichwa or Runashimi I’m forced to use what they know, or else they say what the heck is a Runa. Also they refuse to popularize our preferred terms. We also like the term Abya yala which basically unites us all in the Western Hemisphere.

It’s impossible to say who made it first (Native American or Taino) but plausible to say they could both be invented in two places around same time.

Beyond just Taino culture Taino is more so the Caribbeans (West Indies/ West Indians) but it still plays a role tho, a major one because America and West Indies are actually connected. Places like Florida, Georgia, The Carolinas, Virginia, & Louisiana Are considered to be a part of the West Indies and the West Indies is a subregion of North America . All of the Caribbeans (greater and lesser Antilles) plus the Americas (south, central and north ) we are all considered to be American Indians . There’s way more influence than just from tainos because there’s over hundreds of thousands of tribes within the continent . The tainos/ lucayans are the ones who the colonizers encountered first in the Bahamas people like Hernando De Soto, Christopher Columbus, Giovanni De Verrazzano, Hernan Cortes, Fransisco Pizzaro, Vasco Da Gama Etc.. read into the written records of all those voyages to get a more proper perspective perspective on it . Many American Indians were shipped to the Caribbeans during the King Phillip’s War (1675-1676) against the English Colonial settlers . During the war, New England colonies routinely shipped American Indians as “slaves” (prisoners of war) to places like Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, The Azores, Spain, and even Liberia & North Africa (tangier).

Taínos are native indigenous to Puerto Rico and many other islands aswell as the Caribs which where indigenous to Cuba. You also have many tribes in South America like the Aztecs, Mayans, Mapuche, Tupi. You travel a bit up to Northern America and Canada and you’ll also find many famous tribes like Apache, Sioux, Cherokee, Chayenne, the Cree and Algonquin. My point here is that all these tribes are linked some way or another. Most people here in the comments may like to say that Canadians invented canoes and that Australians invented bbq.
