    Vincent, I'm confused. BenQ send their projectors out pre calibrated to give the best cinematic performance (which is a major selling point), so why are you suggesting there could be a requirement to change the settings?

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  5 років тому +4

      Factory calibration cannot compensate for the screen material and your own viewing environment, so it won't be accurate.

  • @ramonbarajas2813
    @ramonbarajas2813 5 років тому +3

    I thought this projector already came calibrated from factory on D.Cinema setting. Why would you tinker more with the setting? Either way.....I cant wait for your review, dont forget to add any modifications settings in your review

    • @chrisward000
      @chrisward000 5 років тому +1

      Because the factory calibration is just a calibration of the light output of the projector - it can't take into account your screen, room, source material or anything else, so you may still need to tweak for the best picture. My W2000 model is also factory calibrated for Cinema mode, but I still had to change settings for some types of material, especially the 3D picture settings. That said, for most people the factory setting should be good enough, and better than no calibration at all.

    I own the BenQ 3550 as well. Excellent projector. Coming from a cheap $400 1080 to this is a massive jump. I personally find the blacks great paired with a white screen. I tried a black and grey screen and while they did provide better contrast. Most of the times they felt washed out with grey. That and I lost too much vibrant color. I prefer the picture on vivid tv or cinema depending on the movie. Some have mostly dark scenes while others are bright with multiple colors present so changing the settings happen often for me.

    Vincent will you also be testing calibration for the big brother ht5550/W5700? I am keen to get excellent calibration settings for my environment with the ht5550/W5700. contrast levels are greater with the ht5550/W5700 with Dynamic Iris on so your opinion is always appreciated.

      The guy wants a Sony, and as a Sony owner myself I couldn’t be happier. Get either a VW270 for around 5k or a 760/870 if you can afford it for 15k/25k. The 270 is enough for 99% of people and has a good value.

Mostly I use it for movies & series, but also some PS4 Pro gaming as a casual player. I don`t think that input lag should be an issue. Or is worth to go with w1700 & wait a bigger upgrade? Thanks in advance!

    I'm looking to upgrade from my BenQ W3000. Would really like to know if you could compare it to that if you're able to. Also was thinking about the Epson TW9400 / 7400 or even the Optoma UHD60 UHD65 as an alternative, prices have come down recently so I don't mind spending the extra £1K if it's truly worth it. As at this stage in the 4K projector landscape faux4 is the sweet spot. Will buy another in another 4 years time with better tech and true 4K will have come down to this price by then.

    Having a problem with 3D. Have tried a Sharp, LG, and XBox One Bluiray player. Same problem with all. Screen has either a red or magenta tint when playing 3D movie, depending on which player I use. If I go into the settings of the players and set output to RGB instead of the default, which works on 3D TV, the color tint is gone but the projector switches to 2D mode and 3D can not be enabled. Any thoughts?

      The One X is only capable of playing back the "Low Latency" ("player-led") version of Dolby Vision through streaming (Netflix, Prime).
      The One X is not capable of the standard, full DV and also not for playing back DV from UHD BDs.
      You'll need a proper DV-capable player for DV-mastered 4K Blurays...for full DV-functionality with streaming you've got your installed apps.

      @@ronnieneill2922 ...if you can get hold on one of the last OPPO 203s ... get one ... the 203 is the perfect partner for LG OLEDs 2017 and later.
      I am watching DV content from Blurays on my C7 now since mid/end of 2017 ... together with the installed app for streaming and the OPPO 203 you'll have the perfect equipment for watching ANY DV-content out there ! ... and the maximum quality available
      Be aware Sony in 2016 forced Dolby Labs. to develop and implement a second, but inferior version of DV because Sony hardware is not powerful enough to handle standard DV. This inferior "Low Latency" version not only is inferior in picture quality it also causes loads of compatibility issues.
      So there's (unfortunately) TWO different DVs out there ... the original, standard DV and the crappy "Low latency" version for SONY.
      Currently only LG tvs and players from OPPO, CAMBRIDGE, LG or PIONEER can handle full Dolby Vision ... not sure/confirmed for PANASONIC players though...
