Eddie Lawson (born March 11, 1958) is an American former four-time Grand Prix motorcycle racing World Champion. His record of not crashing and consistently finishing in the points earned him the nickname "Steady Eddie".
Eddie Lawson rode with the Kawasaki Superbike team and won the AMA Superbike Series in 1981 and 1982.
This lovely 4 cylinder, 998cc cubic capacity bike is based on the Eddie Lawson S1 race bike that Eddie won the 1981 and 82 AMA Superbike Championships. The 5-speed road going version produces 102bhp at the crank. The iconic Lime Green version, with louder Kerker 4 into 1 exhaust was primarily sold in the US. Many UK dealers had the bikes painted in the bright Lime Green and so the white livery is quite rare. Why white for the UK? Rumours are because the British didn't know who Eddie Lawson was, plus he defected to Yamaha when the R2 came out. Who knows!.
Germany got Lime Green as standard.
For the 1982 model year, Kawasaki introduced the KZ1000R1 Eddie Lawson Replica (ELR); based on the KZ1000J2. The 1983 model was designated KZ1000R2 with cams and a cylinder head from the 1982 GPz1100B2, boosted power from 102 to 104 at 8500 rpm. The bike had a limited run of 750 and was named after the Eddie Lawson 1981-1982 Superbike. It had a claimed 79 hp rear wheel HP @ 8,500rpm and 246.5 kg (543.5 lb) dry.
