Great job! I loved this song the moment it was played on The Mule. The origin story is that Toby and Clint Eastwood played a game of golf. After the 18 rounds Toby was shocked a man of Clint’s age could still play that good. When asked how he does it Clint replied “it’s simple I don’t let the old man in” and it became a hit song. RIP cowboy. You done good! 😢

Actually Toby was at Clint Eastwoods 80th birthday celebration and he asked him what was he gonna do now that he was 80 and he said “try not to let the old man in”. Toby went home and wrote the song and sent it to Clint and Clint put it in the movie The Mule.

According to Toby…the first one. He was invited to play in the golf tournament. The conversation took place there. It’s in an interview on UA-cam straight from Toby.

More complicated than i thought it would be whem hearing it. Probably due to the drop d tuning altering chords that i already know by heart. Great lesson really helping me out.

Thank you so much. Your method of teaching is so clear and calm. I actually don't play guitar (but ukulele) but I have a guitar and have decided to get on with learning to play it after years of thinking about it. This is such a beautiful song and your teaching has prompted me to do so. I heard this song at the end of the film "The Mule". How fantastic is Clint Eastwood - still, and Toby Keith to write this song after a chance meeting with Clint Eastwood. Such talent! Thanks for yours also. Greetings from Australia.

I will definitely sign on to your teaching course in the near future. Going through some intense arthritic issues and physical therapy right at this point in my life. I am an armature in reality but a devoured professional at heart and soul. I am tenacious at my learning skills both on the guitar and the piano. This style of teaching connects with me. I get it. I have that "I can do it!" attitude no matter how long it takes, how complicated it may be, or how challenging it is. More people have got to see this specific tutorial of yours because very few musical accomplishments grab us with the intensity and emotions that Toby Keith, Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper have created. This song, this arrangement, this message, this movie will go down in history as famous as any ever existed. Years and years from now people will be still searching for your tutorial desperately trying to learn how to pick this melody on a guitar. It's like listening to George Jones singing for the thousandth time "He Stopped Loving Her Today". Classic. You never tire of some songs.

I like to play this song but I am bit confused by the intro, and I hope my question is not confusing., so you say put middle finger on 4th string and 4th fret and the 3rd string is open and the 2nd string second fret, so that means you are only holding two strings in total?, or are there more strings to be held down, could you tell where the finger placements are on all the strings? Hope you understand my question thanks
