Welcome to the game and thanks for checking it out! I will say this - be very patient with this build. It's an advanced build that's hard to learn and play, so give yourself time to get good at it if its something you really want to play.

No Motherwell. The lightning ward on it is a completely dead perk and not worth having rogue on the shield. If that’s the best shield you currently have, you can certainly use it and do fine with it, but ideally, you’d want something with vicious/enchanted, keenly jagged and sturdy/shield perk.
hey mate , maybe you can anwser this , if in my sword ive got the perk leaping strike and in my shield ive got the perk fortifyng shield rush works both??

Im like also still trying to find gear for me pve build im doing and can hardly find ahit for that. I hve like 130k gold and dont see anything on the market thats useful. Sigh.
My spear is the only thing I crafted. Everything else I either found, bought on the TP, or got from OPR crates. Just be patient and keep checking the TP and eventually you'll piece it together.
@@carlosechevarria3315 Honestly its been several months since I've played NW so I'm not exactly sure where it drops these days. But if you go to New World Database and search for it there, it will tell you where you can find it.
This guide is amazing. Clear explanations. I personally believe the Javelin nerf is garbage. It's not hammer or another heavy CC. It takes skill to land and it's single target. Same with leaping strike.
Spear is by far my favorite weapon in the whole game and to this day I struggle finding the perfect secondary weapon that fits my playstyle. Definetely gonna try this. But let me just say that I would gladly give up on a secondary weapon if there was an option to grab all 6 skills from.a weapon and run spear only lol
Thanks for the guide. So, if I craft this and end up with a bunch of purple armour with ele aversion and resilence, I shouldn't be sad? It's still viable, and OK to invest umbral shards? Same with weapons? Thanks
It could be. It depends on what armor pieces are available from PvE without crafting and what balancing changes they make to weapons through each season. To be honest, I haven’t played in over a month and don’t intend on playing any time soon, so I don’t know how this guide would fair with season 2. Sorry 😩
I wouldn’t play this in medium, as it makes it worse. The best thing about SnS Spear is mobility and the ability to get around/on top of people very quickly, which you can’t do nearly as well in medium armor. You might as well just play bruiser, since it does a better job at medium melee. However, if you absolutely insist on doing it, you’d want to get rid of javelin and kick and go with sweep/perforate so you can be more of a melee build rather than a combo build.
Would you stay light armour for arena? I used a very similar build back when VG was released. Never ran it with light before. Returning player so unfamiliar with arenas.
@@NWSwill yeah. I've heard some people saying a mix of melee and ranged isn't good, so was just curious. I played when the game first game out, and just started again with fresh start servers.
Lot of thrust in the spartan build and most are running 25% min thrust. I run a 200 con build vg/ig with thrust res and an sns/spear is annoying but not deadly, i would have to be severly outplayed or caught off guard to lose under this setup I love the concept of the spartan build but i dont think its as efficient as other melee
It would not. You don’t have enough mobility. If you play SnS-Spear in medium, you need to switch to sweep/perforate instead of kick/javelin to be less combo-y and be more melee.
first of all I want to say what a high quality insane guide. I am tired of playing light mage for 2000 hours and was looking for a change of build. Thank you for this and you have a new subscriber for life. Secondly, I want to add, you did not have a section where you discuss pros and cons of light vs medium version of sns+spear. But from the part where you discuss spear abilities, I was able to understand what the difference might be. I guess if I am looking to play medium build, I could go sweep/perforate? As someone who is going to melee for the first time in 2000 hours. Would you suggest me going med, or light is the way to go for this weapon combo ? Huge thanks again for this insanely well put guide!
Appreciate the kind words and thanks for checking it out! As for medium - you cannot play this build in medium. You simply do not have the mobility and movement needed from light armor. If you want to play SnS-Spear in medium, then yes, you’d want to replace Kick/Javelin with Sweep/Perforate and become more of a straight up melee build rather than a combo build like this one. Personally, I would never ever play medium. I just couldn’t ever play something that doesn’t have the ability to roll and have that movement and mobility from light armor. Hopping around in medium armor and being hamstrung on movement would just drive me nuts.
i played spartan from Launch to now, i can tell u this, meduim build works if u have a pocket healer then ur almost un-killable, time those hops (3 of them) and deal dmg 2v6-8 ur gonna win cuz of ur healer (long as u can sync) however for maximum efficiency and mobility (slippery like a wet fish, they just cant hold u once u have 5x freedom and haste pot/cakes) light is the way to go for dmg and survivability (and alot of laughs).

Nice guide, just a note that Abyssal Gambit won't stack between both weapons. Also, maybe I'm missing something but isn't the elemental runeglass on armor only effective when converting 40% of your weapon dmg to that element? Isn't the 10% extra dmg only increasing Abyssal Gambit to 8.8% and Attunement to 15.4%?
I honestly don’t know the exact math, all I knew was that the elemental damage buff from the runeglasses on the armor buffed the elemental damage coming from the attunement and the elemental runeglasses on the weapons. Either way, it’s still better than the melee runeglasses in armor, at least until those are properly fixed and can be tested. Splitting up your damage is also beneficial because it gets around those with a lot of thrust resist. I’m actually looking into putting some amethyst runeglasses into my weapons and testing that out to see how I like it.
Why boosting the void dmg with the runeglass instead of the melee damage ? You are boosting like 10% of 300dmg vs 5% of, let's lowball, 1.2k, which is significantly higher. Am i missing something here ?
Melee runeglasses are broken. They're not working the way they're supposed to and there's a hidden internal cooldown on them where you only get the damage buff essentially every other attack. Lastly, and this is personal preference - I'm a huge fan DoT's, so I like having some of my damage split into damage ticks.
@@alessiotranzocchi-o3o Correct. Another reason why it's good to go with elemental runeglasses is because it splits your damage types and help get around mitigations a little. It can, it just depends on what you're doing. I wouldn't use it for expeditions for example, but I actually have a full Luck set for Spartan that I use when doing Luck chest runs and works great. So in essence - group pve content, no. Solo pve content, yes.
