You could have replaced the entire air system with the amount you spent on the coils and would have had the same amount of reliability as coils with an entire new system and then you keep the major benefits of the air. But that’s just my two cents.
Seems to be way more expensive to replace the full air suspension. 3 valve blocks would be around $1000. Compressor $600. New air struts around $1400. You can get an coil over kit from Atlantic British for $1400.
Coilover suspension setup for off-road is the pro move my dude 👌 piece of mind, consistency, and predictability is the name of the game across all the surface types you traversed 👍
I did the same thing on a 2004 Audi Allroad when the air suspension failed. Turned that wagon into a road hugging sporty beast. Agree with your on road analysis.
I will never understand why people buy what would be a $100k new vehicle in todays money, and complain about the cost of air suspension repairs. Neither do I understand how you complain about the reliability of a nearly 20 year old air suspension system, without being willing to spend some time/money on servicing the components. Coil suspensions are not superior to air suspension. If you want a vehicle with a 50" lift - get a jeep. The LR3 was not desined to ride around freeways at lifted heights. Air suspension tows better, rides better on and off road (it is adjustable after all) and is safer. If you want a Land Rover with Coils, get a Diso 1, or Defender.
what coil over setup did you use? especially to get the lift that you did. I have an lr3 that has a coil over done to it but it had hard as shit suspension and its not as lifted. So basically what brand of coil overs are you using and whatever other stuff youve done in order to get the lift shown in the video?
Hello, did I understand correctly that you put the + 2" spring on in addition to the 2" SYA kit? If so, I was wondering how that has worked out? I would love to do that, but I've heard many people say not to, though most likely have not tried.
Hey great input, I own a 08 LR3, currently it's leaking air in the front passenger air strut (from somewhere) I haven't been able to find the leak and confirm it but checked everything else, the lines, valve block and refurbished, compressor line... now I'm done and I'm looking into getting the same set as you did, but I have a QUESTION and maybe you can help me... do the Proud rhino limiting straps are necessary and for what? Thank you for this video and your time!👌👍
@@t3time2drive Thanks for your response and like I said I'll be installing the same set up... but I have a concern on that the 4" lift might cause more wear on the CV's joints. Also I've contacted Lucky8 and this is what they say... "We do NOT recommend doing that unless you are also buying the HD CV Axle kit. 4" of lift is too much for those stock CVs" this is a $4k investment 😬. I had my 08 LR3 for over a year with 2.5" Proud Rhino lift rods and most LR3 owners do this inexpensive mod and no problem whatsoever. I'll be doing more research but I'm definitely doing the conversion to coils. Once again thank you for your response.
First thing I noticed when I lowered on coilovers wasn’t the turning it was the stopping. Do you notice longer stopping distance on the street? Lower is better for street, I guess air is the best of both I’ll VW/Audi group raise their cars by 1.5” to get the 5 star crash rating, I’m sure others are doing the same
quick question, did you have to reprogram the truck to get rid of the air suspension light? or are you just driving with it. curious how difficult it is to or is it an option to flash the ecm
Yeah I reached out to you on your other video and told you I had to do the same thing to my 99 Lincoln I had to get the air right off of it cuz we had a Lincoln before that that my wife had and those air ride are famous for the either the compressor going out or the air ride shocks going out or the airlines going default and leaking so I bought a conversion kit like you and I had my mechanic change it all over and I love it let me tell you other than I can't have the three different ride control settings that a factory Lincoln has which I lost a few but I gained a lot good job Jory sorry to see that that happened but you'll be way way happier with coilovers shocks and springs
Aside from heavy truck applications, I never cared for air suspension on anything. Plus if you decide to change the springs for something softer or more stiff you can always sell the current parts so it's not a complete waste of money.
Yes. This is because once the vehicle is lifted to a certain amount, the alignment is way out of spec. Take it to a good alignment shop and have them put it as close to spec as possible- but you’ll still be positive a little bit.
Glad it worked out for you dude. Air suspensions are great till the day they fail. My Dad had a 2016 Ram with air that he loved till the cold weather up here in Canada killed them. Turned up Dodge didn't account for moisture building up and freezing in their system. A few years later they fixed it by putting a dehumidifier in the loop but my Dad went through 3 whole suspensions before he got rid of the thing. Thankfully it was covered under warranty.
TKD Chad still here lurking in the shadows! I never told you I am also an automotive expert that's owned many crazy rare rides. We should geek out some time
Glad you went for the coil overs. Good decision by the sounds of your thoughts. Nice one and it looks cool as a penguins nads. That Landy will go on forever now. 👏
Really enjoyed that with my coffee this Sunday morning int UK - thanks. Glad it's worked out; hope it stays that way. I think half the battle is a shop you can trust - with my neighbor's it was electrics and brakes, his other mistake was to use the main dealer... Anyhow, take care.
Gonna be honest, not super into cars so I never really understood the difference. I do now so thank you for that. Also, i now know I should stay out of the car hobby since I can freely afford my watch and gun hobbies
Great little video the Land rover looking good spring's always better the air suspension is great until it stops. I had 3 disco's but now drive a Honda CRV MK2 never ever had a problem but I don't go beach fishing in it.
Not actually into cars (motorcycle guy here), but it costs me nothing to help you make you meet your 10k subscribers goal... and blowing up that Porsche.
I had an LR3 with coils, although they were standard ride height it felt great, hands down the LR3 was the best handling, comfortable and smoothest SUV ive owned, unfortunaley i had to sell it because my reliable toyota broke its transmission at only 120k miles and the LR3 was just an extra vehicle, it makes more sense to daily a rav4 than a thirsty and heavy LR3. Keep the LR3 i would buy another one if the opportunity arrived.
Land Rovers a cool, but Jeeps are Better!. If you can find and deckout a 97-2001 XJ, you'd be back in the Jeep club..lol....The Best platform out there, Giggidy Gig! Canadian Jeeper!
Bad decision. You didn’t know how to raise the vehicle to limp home. You got suckered into fitting coils and if you think they are better than air well hmmm! Airbag man could have fixed the problem for you. Anyway, don’t associate the coil switch with the Disco if it doesn’t work out as it was not original. I recommend you watch LR TIME for details about LR3 fixes. Happy touring. 👍🏻🙏🦘
@@t3time2drive you didn't pull the fuses once you had it raised back up. I'm glad you like the coils ...but don't you think you need more than one day's worth of data before you advise people? You may not notice the performance fall-off until you tackle some technical terrain. Military Mobility did a great 7-part series comparing EAS to coils as objectively as possible with their own two vehicles. It's good stuff.
The funniest part about the guy above me, is that he’s left numerous comments over the last two days, continuing to view this episode in hopes of proving something I guess. But the fact that he’s claiming I need “more data” before “advising” people with a simple build update is LAUGHABLE. 🤣🤣🤣☠️👍
Super helpful! Thanks so much!

Glad to see it was an improvement.
Thanks for the insight and for the giveaways! Good luck everyone!
Wow didn't know your into cars too until I watch your timepiece videos. Awesome!
Great video, I came over from your other channel, thanks.
What size tires / wheels are you running? I love the look
great video, im debating on doing this. few questions. hows your CV angle? hows the factory geometry? able to get a wheel alignment perfect?
Looking great

So close to 10K!! Let's get itttt. Hope to win that Orient pilot!
Great video 🙂
Cool stuff
Are these coils ride height adjustable? Why not use the $600 suncor conversion ?
What matters is you enjoy and your happy with the results.
Nice upgrade.
That is a cool ride.

Hello there! Watching from the Philippines!👍
love this carrr
quick question, did you have to reprogram the truck to get rid of the air suspension light? or are you just driving with it. curious how difficult it is to or is it an option to flash the ecm
My kit came with a reflash module that keeps all the driving modes/safety systems, but gets rid of the warnings.
Nice
Looks good. Still rocking air, we shall see what happens.
I'm glad it seemed to have worked out for yoi.
Sweet 👍

And now you can put some dick CPAC rough country suspension on it or a rancho suspension get that thing 12 ft in the air like it's on stilts...
I don't know anything about cars, but I do like that Land Rover.
Hey T3 - one day this channel will have 10k subs. And that day is in 10 years
I’ll prove you very, very wrong😎👍
We have a RRS and LR3 converted, and one LR3 still on air suspension, hoping to keep it going for off road despite the risks 😂
Aside from heavy truck applications, I never cared for air suspension on anything. Plus if you decide to change the springs for something softer or more stiff you can always sell the current parts so it's not a complete waste of money.
Still an awesome and iconic car! 🤷🏽♂️
Just sold my 2022 Bronco for an E90 M3. Every time I see a video of the Land Rover it makes me want to get another rig lol
Hello I have the same exact build as you, is it normal for my tires to have a slight positive camber? Thanks
Yes. This is because once the vehicle is lifted to a certain amount, the alignment is way out of spec. Take it to a good alignment shop and have them put it as close to spec as possible- but you’ll still be positive a little bit.
@@t3time2drive oooh I see, thank you so much for your reply!! It is only a little bit. So maybe that is normal.
No pain no gain!
Coil overs are the way to go for performance, just not necessarily comfort
Love your content! Keep up the good work!!
Great watch giveaway mate
WHOA are you also The Time Teller?! I'm a watch enthusiast and you look/sound just like him!!
Lol YES!!!
Yeah!
Hopefully this is the last issue with the landrover to be fixed for a while 😅
Best mod
Quality piece of beef in that thumbnail

Feel better don't it
I have the same suspension setup, I just haven’t installed it. Glad you liked it.
This just fixed one of the main issues the LR has. Got to love the secondary market these days. Lol.
Have a blessed week Jory.
Great to see this work out for you!
Are you familiar with Hotchkis suspension products? Well worth checking them out.
