    My theory is that cats get on kitchen counters because they associate them with interesting smells and tasty snacks .I clean mine with a lemon or other citrus scented spray and make sure to never leave any food out and unattended .I agree that no reward and no fuss is the way to go .My current cat has only tried jumping up twice ,each time I simply put him back on the floor with a simple "No" .He obviously realised quickly that it wasn't worth the effort .

    My two kitties were always jumping up onto the kitchen bench when they were kittens. I just picked them up and put them straight back on the floor. At first they thought it was a game and they kept on doing it. This went on for quite some time until they finally stopped doing this because they realised that they weren’t getting anything in return from me. It sure did take a lot of patience during this time but in the end it was worth it.

    Ha ha ha! Reminds me of my beloved Wolfgang! We’d had baked chicken for dinner and I left the cookie sheet with the drippings on the counter and went to bed. Around 3:00 a.m., we were woke by a crash coming from the kitchen but did nothing. Soon after, I felt Wolfgang jump onto the bed and proceeded to be very busy grooming himself!!! I reached down to pet him and in the darkness, found a completely greased covered kitten! He had flipped the cookie sheet full of grease over onto himself!! Needless to say and thankful for me,He never jumped onto a table or countertop again! Disclaimer: I do not recommend this as a way to keep your cat off the counters or tables

    My cat never stops being curious EVER. She interrupts the Litter Robot cycle every single time! I've realized she's never going to get tired of doing it but I did find a solution for the kitchen counters - cats don't like alumininum foil. But I still put her in a cage when I leave the house because I don't want her to jump up there when I'm not home and realize that there's nothing to fear from the foil.

    I've recently gone from an almost 18-year-old cat who had gone blind in the few months of life and needed a booster step to get onto the bed to a 6-month old kitten who can leap onto the counter with ease. I had forgotten how agile they can be! He's only been with me for about a month and is still learning.

    We had 4 dogs and 3 cats. One of our cats passed in September and we vowed to start down-sizing. Until.........
    Someone my sister-in-law knew became homeless and the cat had nowhere to go (well, the guy didn't either but--). He's about a year and a half old and not neutered. He's been here about a month and a half and the little shit keeps getting on the counter. Not only is he getting on the kitchen counter but he keeps spraying on the kitchen counter, the backsplash and my coffee maker. Grosses me out! We've had a lot of boy cats that have been on a waiting list to get neutered and none of them have ever, ever, ever gotten on the kitchen counter and sprayed. I don't remember any of my boys spraying as much as this little guys does. I have had to resort to putting large sheets of foil on the counter. He's jumped up around that also. It doesn't scare him.

    My cat jumped on the counter and knocked over the cutting board as I was picking him up. It was loud and made a mess, and I was very upset with him and had to put him in another room. He hasn’t done it since.

      Search for office chair mat for carpet on amazon. The underside has the small spikes that keeps the chair mat from slipping on carpet. You will probably need to cut it to size with something strong as the plastic can be tough.

    I don’t wanna be rude, but absolutely none of those tips work with my cats. I have tried literally everything consistently aggressively and often harshly. My cats will walk across everything and anything in their way. They do not care nothing towards them. They know that food is prepared on the counter. There’s no convincing them otherwise. They are hardheaded. They are orange cats if that tells you anything. Nothing works and I have been trying for years. They break my dishes they eat my food they open the counter cupboards with their paws they pull down all the food they rip open the packages in the pantry they know how to open doors. These cats are a nightmare.

    • @friendalways9140
      @friendalways9140 Рік тому +3

      Try putting any food they could get into in plastic containers they can't open. And anything they can manipulate make unattainable like using child safety cabinet products. Then be overly aggressive towards making sure not one crumb or residue of food is left on the counter. Then try carpet tack strips, they're extra sharp, my cat walked all over the upside down office chair mats. Place as many as needed on every surface you don't want them on, take them down and put in an inaccessible location when you need to use your counter, when you're done useing the counter wipe it up place them back down (this could take years, cats can be that persistent, but it can be done, they can be trained if you're just as persistent on your part)

      Same here!! I'm exhausted! My tuxedo kitten is a nightmare. Plus I have all kinds of house plants, and for a long time the counter was the only place he couldn't reach. Now he has learned to jump up there and shred the plants 😭 he is the most stubborn, ornery cat I've ever experienced! I use a spray bottle for most things he shouldn't do, but what am I supposed to do at night!! He doesn't care about tin foil, and I really doubt he will care about the office mat. I never let ANY food out. I clean religiously with citrus cleaner. I keep non toxic plants, but still, my favorite plants are constantly shredded 😖

      My cat is the same. Tried water spray, tin foil, telling her no, grabbing her silently and taking her off...ten minutes later she's up there again. Nothing sinks into her brain. Thinking about getting her spayed next.

      Try looking up positive reinforcement training. I currently have two kittens and have been trying to detour them from counters with positive reinforcement and use a CLICKER. UA-cam has lots of videos on the subject. Don't give up... that cat needs you. He's just being a cat, but he CAN learn. It takes time and practice. Soon that clicker will be all you need to get them to do whatever you want. That clicker turns into an instant "come to me" device. I know it works, because I've trained 4 other cats. Two of them were adult cats when I taught them. It does work :) Good luck.

    Is this a joke? My cat isn't deterred with a spray bottle, double-sided sticky tape, citrus scents, or being shouted at, yet simply putting him down without a word or a pet every time he jumps up there will do the trick? Smfh. That mf is spiteful and keeps on and on. I can spray him a hundred times and he will return within seconds. I can use double-sided sticky tape but he still jumps up there. He is not repulsed by citrus scents in the slightest. He doesn't give af about being yelled at, either. I was really hoping for something actually helpful in this video.
