    So I have a question when it comes to removing the thermostat… does the ecu still know what the engine temperature is and therefore can modulate the radiator fan to keep the bike cool? Or is the thermostat the only thing that reads temperature. In other words, is there anything to prevent the engine from overheating if you remove the thermostat and will the fan still come on at the pre designated temperature that it’s designed to come on at from the factory

  • @vegasranger
    @vegasranger 5 місяців тому

    Why dont u just take the thermostat out of the thermostat housing? In cold weather the motor wont burn fuel efficiently and the gas will find its way to the oil sump, which will degrade the oil. Bad for moving parts.

    14:27 There is a dedicated yellow fast idle knob on these bikes that you have to pull out when starting the bike. It will increase engine rpm to allow for the bike to warm up to prevent cold stalls. Let it run for 15-20 seconds then push the yellow knob back in. Doesn't stall anymore when I first start mine when doing this.

    I’ve had the kit for 8 months, I deleted everything but I didn’t remove my thermostat yet. Maybe if I do more off-road. I ordered a different fan , a Tusk digital fan, that I can adjust when it comes on.

      Thats a nice way to do it. I don't really ride stop and go traffic but I heard the fan come on once or twice stock but never after the vortex. I wasn't really worried only because I had read about it and was expecting that to happen.

      @@DadsDomain its proving to be quite difficult to diagnose, the main issue is an idle speed of 2400 when it gets warm plus clouds of blue smoke. The ecu told me bad injector and engine temp switch. I replaced those and the problems the same... but the bike has more power now!
      The idle valve passes static tests so its a bit of a head scratcher.

    I see people in the forums talking about how this delete kit is going to shorten the life of your bike and how there is no benefit and it would only hurt the bike because of temperature differences and the bike not getting up to operating temp. I have one thing to say about that: the 450R doesn't have a thermostat.

      I agree with you. I've also thought about it more even since this video and part of me wonders if keeping the engine hot also makes the Catalytic converter happier as well which would technically make sense since those things get so dang hot

    Just curious what heel guard Dan has on his bike? I like the contour that follows the sprocket vs the more square ones I've seen
    You should do overviews of both bikes soon covering all the smaller mods you've done.
    Also what mirrors does he use? I bought similar ones, but the adjustment isn't enough and visibility is basically zero out of them

      Hey the heel guard I have is the “zeta” heel guard.. both me and Ryan have the same one.. as for the mirrors, I bought mine from soloracer.com, the street moto mirrors.. I switched my clutch and break levers to asv c6 fold away..., however when I did I lost the ability to use the stock mirrors on the clutch side at least because they screw into the oem clutch housing..that’s why I went with those ones..

    Informative and well done video. I guess my 2020 DRZ delete was the poor man version! Cost me almost nothing to complete. Keep in mind, the DRZ has less technology in it. The CRF450L is looking good. Keep those old parts brother!!! I am interested to know what temperatures you are making now?

      I know with the XR650l I used to own the previous owner told me that the emissions were really easy to take off with a couple block plates. I wish this bike used the standard car interface for diagnostics because then I could pull temp data easily. I probably need to look into how it works so I can read what the computer is saying someday

      They do make a 4 PIN to OBD2 so you can read live data from a scanner. Look on eBay, 4 PIN to OBD2 for Honda motorcycles. The 4 PIN plug is under the seat, not sure how this will work with the Vortex.

    I got the thermostat on mine and the fan comes on all the time in slow stuff. I got vortex ecu and Yoshimura exhaust. I'm convinced you get much better gas mileage with the thermostat because it runs hotter. But I suppose eliminating a point of failure is worth it sometimes.

    • @DadsDomain

    • @danielhenry52
      @danielhenry52 3 роки тому

      As it pertains to cars/trucks from my experience - you get worse mileage with thermostat removed as the vehicle will run rich until it’s at operating temp. Naturally, it probably won’t make it to that temp (185-205 degrees is kinda a normal range), and it will run rich all the time. Less efficient for sure. I’m not sure if these bikes have coolant temp sensors, and a pcm that has different fuel ratios programmed for different engine temps, but in cars that do it hurts economy.

      @@DadsDomain No you do not. Behind the vortex ECU there is a blank pin, you pop it out. Take a wire and attach it to that pin and ground it to the negative terminal on the bike. You then turn on the bike, crank it for 5 seconds (engine does not start because you grounded the wire).. Turn off, turn the throttle to max position while cranking the engine for 5 seconds. The new TPS is saved in the ECU. Pretty easy to do. You should do it to get the max benefits of this ECU.

      In my opinion, the San Diego powerhouse kit is a much better buy. The champion adventures kit does not include a billet aluminum thermostat replacement piece, it’s milled from plastic. And the water pump housing that he says is a custom made billet piece, is just the stock Honda housing with a bolt threaded into the hose bib that gets deleted. And he sells it for about twice the price. I think it’s worth half of what the San Diego powerhouse kit is.

    • @treeafodo1
      @treeafodo1 3 роки тому

      With all due respect you're wrong on both counts. The CA kit is billet aluminum with the same coating on it that Hinson uses on their clutch covers. Also Colton (owner of CA) clearly states they modify your original 4 way (hence why you have to send yours in). However if you're an international customer he sends you a new, modified 4 way included in the price.
      I own a CA kit and can 100% guarantee it's not plastic. Colton has also confirmed this in emails before I purchased it.

      Tokyo Mods for this bike is just selling the vortex where as San Diego Powerhouse has added maps to the vortex for their kit. I picked the Yoshi mainly because thats what factory honda uses so I just considered it the "Honda" of the aftermarket pipes and I love the black carbon end tip. However Pro Circuit makes really good parts so theres no issues with that at all and if they say it works better I think you'd be fine sticking with their recommendations.
