The part that sticks with me the most about her story was when her father(asian dad) called her up and told her that he found out that she came from the bottom to the top where she is now through her hard work, and that he was proud of her. So let me try my best to explain it, but you have to keep in mind, I am not a simp. So, my explanation likely might not be the same as one of those fans. To start of, that it's absolute clownery, is your opinion, and we shouldn't let tourists or outsiders change that culture. The last thing anyone should want is new "fans" change the culture of the community. There is a perfect short comic about this from a D&D perspective. And while a crush & the classic delusions are likely a factor for some. It's more about the broader point of view. An idol doesn't belong to one person (belong as in focussing attention on). And an idol who is dating does that. They spend most of their attention on their partner. It's not even relationship only. If for example an idol shows a preferred treatment to a certain group of fans or a few individuals, the same issue arrives. Hence why idols talk to their fans as a whole, and don't spend any or hardly any time singing them out. The pureness comes from an idol being your support system. Like a family, a wife, a game, a good book etc. It functions as a way to escape the gruesome reality and calm down. That's why they talk about a idol "healing you". And an idol who isn't pure, can't do this. They shouldn't be spending time on fans, etc. They should be the "healer" of their significant other (gf, wife, bf, husband). Or basically, an idol is supposed to function as a pure existence, continuously out of reach. To be admired and supported. For them to heal you. Untill the inevitable time they move on with life to start their own family. It might be weird to you, but that's because we are tourists. We aren't idol fans. We simply entered this space as tourists an walk around. It's like you visiting some country as a tourist. Let's say Japan to be on topic. You walk around and see Geisha's, temples, their train infrastructure, people being silent etc. You see it, you expierence it to some extend, you enjoy it, but you're a tourist. You aren't one of them, you understand some of it, but you look upon that culture from an outsiders perspective. If you have the mental faculties for it, you can look at it from an quite unbiased view, but you are still a tourist. Do you follow?

Just some more perspectives on the male idol antis were claiming Sui was dating. As shown in the video he’s come out as a Hoshiyomi and has shilled Suisei on public programs before. In fact he may be the most famous Hoshiyomi in the world. In return Sui has sent him a recording wishing him happy birthday as a gift (of which you can find translated clips of him hearing it for the first time). Which is all to say, they clearly know of each other and imo would be very surprising if they weren’t already friends. Of course that makes them easy targets for speculations, to which I say who cares, Sui is obviously dating Mikochi anyways.

Only one blooper? Noooo! 😭What is the reason for living if there's only one blooper! On a serious note, love the video! I support Suisei for so many reasons: her tough background to finding success, her stellar voice, her forth-coming attitude and her unintentionally smexy model. I rarely watch her streams because my Japanese is lacking, but thankfully clips with translations keep me invested in this star (comet?) of an idol.
I also don't speak Japanese but sometimes see myself be captivated by her streams after opening them with the intention of just checking what's happening for a minute or so but end up sticking for an hour or more.

Suisei is indeed one of the biggest winners in the VTuber industry. From working all on herself, and be literally quite alone... to be one of the most important VTubers out there, and having fans that would do the extra step for her, because she did it for them too.
That higher pitch voice she did back then was starting to strain her vocal cords so she stopped doing it, also I think she got hospitalized because of it too at least for a bit but when she came back with a her normal deeper voice, damn, she became much more let's just say arousing of some sort LOL
Suisei is one of the rare true idols, without quotation marks, in Hololive. And considering the enormous amount of power was put by herself into becoming it, she deserves all respect and support. To me, Suisei is like the pinnacle of a Hololive "idol" in that she excels at pretty much everything that Hololive is known for. It's no wonder that so many of the girls consider her to be THEIR oshi as well as a big inspiration for why they wanted to join Hololive. She's not personally MY JP oshi even though I devour her clips all the time simply because Korone holds that honor as one of the people who initially pushed me down the Hololive and Vtuber rabbit hole but I will definitely say that she gained even more respect from me with how she handled that recent drama situation and went on to create and put together a fantastic 3D idea featuring a bunch of the JP girls.

Another great video Rima! I've been a fan of Hololive since 2019 and when I discovered Suisei she had instantly became my favourite singer in the company. Though i didnt really tune in to streams much, I was always hyped when ever she would drop a new song. Upon discovering her story of how she started Vtubing and got into Hololive my respect for her skyrocketed. Still, I never understood Gachikoi/Idol culture, even to this day to a degree. It just seems... self poisonous??? I like Idols (the vtuber variety mainly) music, characters, and entertainment they bring. It's a nice distraction from the daily struggles of life. But to think one should be "Available" to fans just rubs me the wrong way and Impairs progress IMO. I mean look at the collabs we got between Hololive and Holostars, those were some of my favourite streams, but due to backlash and rumors of Live/Stars dating, we almost never see that anymore. I guess it just frustrates me to see people stop liking an entertainer just because they are dating (or maybe dating) someone, and it's so much worse when they go out of their way to try and cancel them because of it. Idols are here to entertain and that's it. there has to be a line there. Sorry for the rant. I dont mean for it to sound mean, it's just what I think.

15:48 to add to this, i was on the Suimerch channel of Suicord when that post was making the rounds, and though it looked like a normal Mercari post, no one was able to find it. It wasnt a bad deal, tbh, n a couple people were hopeful that there'd be a decent amount of people selling stuff n bringing prices down lol. Her merch sells out all the time and gets scalped a lot, so secondhand prices are crazy. Unfortunately all the attention seemed to work the other way and months old posts that were overpriced or sus looking started selling, n her merch actually got more expensive lmao 🤣 it's back to the same levels now, but it was funny to see her mochidoru going for almost $500 usd, and even the relatively new big head anni plush went for over $150. Luckily I'm preorder gang so i just got to sit back n watch

I've found your vtuber/idol culture video essays quite informative and entertaining, you're doing great work and I subbed, looking forward to seeing more.
Say what you will about Hololive and its affiliated productions under Cover... but they, have an incredible eye for digging up hidden gems. A lot of their holomem who have now become huge, were not just the obviously famous or capable streamer who were already making rounds in their previous platform/'life', but also total unknowns. Ppl with very little experience. Or did not show success. The stories of "how the heck did they pick up a person like THIS and then make them turn into THAT???" are literally laden across the generations. It's one of the reasons my image of YAGOO is a scary one. The guy is a legit scary person ... Terrifying even. Under that facade of goofy fun ojisan, is a sharp business mind that blows Tazumi out of the water, with an incredible eye that sees through people's hidden potential, and the balls to actually trust in his intuitions and hire people which no other company would.
Suisei is probably the most fleshed out talent in Hololive. Not throwing shades to other holomem or anything cause i've seen other holomem have other strong point that Suisei simply don't have or lacking. And it's just from my pure observation and from casually glaze (purely based on curiosity and youtube algorithm) over numerous other holomem including the Holostars. Her music career a banger after banger, she can joke, take joke, her engagement skill is amazing, and she can be quite a gamer too. But it's her ethics or principals of carrying herself forward is quite a sight to behold and what captivate me again and again. She's the goldilock zone of Hololive, the jack of all trades (i mean it in the positive way), the safe bet, the working formula, the blazing comet. Hoshimachi Suisei.
We on the Suimerch discord channel were looking forward to all the price drops on stuff, but all the attention ended up working the other way and making everything even more expensive lmao

I think Suisei manages to place herself more like a conventional star we know in the west, as someone you look up to, instead of feeling parasocial. Like people can dream about some popstar being their gf/bf, but you know that's just a dream.
I dissagree. First off, because she calls herself an Idol, and you can't call yourself an idol and then act like a western style celebrity. And second, she doesn't act like a western style celebrity. She very much acts like a Japanese idol. Her behaviour, mannerisms, way of communicating with fans, etc. are all very idol like.
This was a good video, just that there was too much emphasis on the Suisex meme (you don't have to be a Hoshiyomi to meme that yunno, so that doesn't prove your "Hoshiyomis are thirsty for Suisei" theory. (granted, I was a new sub) I've developed an anxiety of being "seen" by online content creators since then. My main complaint was on the commenters still blaming "le idol culture" more than your content, which again I thought was pretty good.

Other commenters have commented the OPPOSITE saying I didnt chastise the gachis enough and that they weren’t antis. The fact that I am in the middle of both extremes proves to me that my coverage was , in fact, fair. As a final reminder: You made up your mind in a couple of minutes -but I put days and hundreds of hours of research in this video. Hololive planified 4 outfit for these streams (covered belly+shorts/covered belly+leggings/naked belly+shorts/naked belly+leggings) and asked every participants what outfit they would want. That was pretty much only by choice and I don't think she had any intention to stop the thirst (or even care about it).
I don't count the folks who do lewd memes real Hoshiyomi as they aim at a twisted fictional take. The real ones just wish for her success. I feel she weathered that little incident well due to a few things: Suisei taking a clear stance, a reputation of not fostering gachikois, and having a cool head (this trait enables her to be great at a number of games)

On a serious note, love the video! I support Suisei for so many reasons: her tough background to finding success, her stellar voice, her forth-coming attitude and her unintentionally smexy model. I rarely watch her streams because my Japanese is lacking, but thankfully clips with translations keep me invested in this star (comet?) of an idol.
I also don't speak Japanese but sometimes see myself be captivated by her streams after opening them with the intention of just checking what's happening for a minute or so but end up sticking for an hour or more.
My editor forgot to put the funny after credit clip. I had planned it to be the lowres suisei meme. Oh well.
I agree its hard to follow jp members besided watching the clips. I do think they are super interesting. For my next video i had someone translate and subtitles some clips especially for it and i think it would be nice to introduce those vtubers to the western audience even more

Suisei is indeed one of the biggest winners in the VTuber industry.
From working all on herself, and be literally quite alone... to be one of the most important VTubers out there, and having fans that would do the extra step for her, because she did it for them too.
That higher pitch voice she did back then was starting to strain her vocal cords so she stopped doing it, also I think she got hospitalized because of it too at least for a bit but when she came back with a her normal deeper voice, damn, she became much more let's just say arousing of some sort LOL

Idol culture start in japan back in 1962, the culture is still going strong and thanks to someone like suisei and sora its never stop evolving, as long time japanese idol fans if 10 years ago someone told me that someone with anime avatar will become an idol ill be laughing my ass off
Even now she's winning so much she's ascended beyond being an Idol but just like AZKi, she's a Diva.
To me, Suisei is like the pinnacle of a Hololive "idol" in that she excels at pretty much everything that Hololive is known for. It's no wonder that so many of the girls consider her to be THEIR oshi as well as a big inspiration for why they wanted to join Hololive. She's not personally MY JP oshi even though I devour her clips all the time simply because Korone holds that honor as one of the people who initially pushed me down the Hololive and Vtuber rabbit hole but I will definitely say that she gained even more respect from me with how she handled that recent drama situation and went on to create and put together a fantastic 3D idea featuring a bunch of the JP girls.

Another great video Rima! I've been a fan of Hololive since 2019 and when I discovered Suisei she had instantly became my favourite singer in the company. Though i didnt really tune in to streams much, I was always hyped when ever she would drop a new song. Upon discovering her story of how she started Vtubing and got into Hololive my respect for her skyrocketed.
Still, I never understood Gachikoi/Idol culture, even to this day to a degree. It just seems... self poisonous??? I like Idols (the vtuber variety mainly) music, characters, and entertainment they bring. It's a nice distraction from the daily struggles of life. But to think one should be "Available" to fans just rubs me the wrong way and Impairs progress IMO. I mean look at the collabs we got between Hololive and Holostars, those were some of my favourite streams, but due to backlash and rumors of Live/Stars dating, we almost never see that anymore.
I guess it just frustrates me to see people stop liking an entertainer just because they are dating (or maybe dating) someone, and it's so much worse when they go out of their way to try and cancel them because of it. Idols are here to entertain and that's it. there has to be a line there.
Sorry for the rant. I dont mean for it to sound mean, it's just what I think.
Suisei is goofy in her own way, but people forget she is very professional and stubborn when it comes to achieving her dreams. That is why she is my JP oshi.
The Suisex and Suipiss memes are so big and prevalent that even T-Chan the moderator of the official Hololie reddit made jokes about it on a the discord server that was used for teh 2022 R/Place, it was interesting to see that, also it didn't helped that /OKBuddyHololive managed to defend a Suisex art on Place, so it was wild.

15:48 to add to this, i was on the Suimerch channel of Suicord when that post was making the rounds, and though it looked like a normal Mercari post, no one was able to find it.
It wasnt a bad deal, tbh, n a couple people were hopeful that there'd be a decent amount of people selling stuff n bringing prices down lol. Her merch sells out all the time and gets scalped a lot, so secondhand prices are crazy.
Unfortunately all the attention seemed to work the other way and months old posts that were overpriced or sus looking started selling, n her merch actually got more expensive lmao 🤣 it's back to the same levels now, but it was funny to see her mochidoru going for almost $500 usd, and even the relatively new big head anni plush went for over $150.

Say what you will about Hololive and its affiliated productions under Cover... but they, have an incredible eye for digging up hidden gems. A lot of their holomem who have now become huge, were not just the obviously famous or capable streamer who were already making rounds in their previous platform/'life', but also total unknowns. Ppl with very little experience. Or did not show success.
The stories of "how the heck did they pick up a person like THIS and then make them turn into THAT???" are literally laden across the generations.
It's one of the reasons my image of YAGOO is a scary one.

Suisei is probably the most fleshed out talent in Hololive. Not throwing shades to other holomem or anything cause i've seen other holomem have other strong point that Suisei simply don't have or lacking. And it's just from my pure observation and from casually glaze (purely based on curiosity and youtube algorithm) over numerous other holomem including the Holostars.
Her music career a banger after banger, she can joke, take joke, her engagement skill is amazing, and she can be quite a gamer too. But it's her ethics or principals of carrying herself forward is quite a sight to behold and what captivate me again and again.
She's the goldilock zone of Hololive, the jack of all trades (i mean it in the positive way), the safe bet, the working formula, the blazing comet. Hoshimachi Suisei.

This was a good video, just that there was too much emphasis on the Suisex meme (you don't have to be a Hoshiyomi to meme that yunno, so that doesn't prove your "Hoshiyomis are thirsty for Suisei" theory. For example I have a huge crush on Miosha's looks but I'm a Subatomo)
Also, since you featured that Yura clip of Suisei emphasizing that her fans were innocent of the accusations, I think you should've done the same as well. Seeing commenters still blame Hoshiyomis despite Suisei doing what she could to protect them kinda hurts to see.

@@rimaevenstar I truly hope you don't see my comment as "attacking" you, a few years ago a certain dramatuber got pissed that a couple of comments from me on his videos that went against his narrative got a lot of likes so he created a video about me, chastising me, branding me as a hater even tho I was actually subbed to him. (granted, I was a new sub) I've developed an anxiety of being "seen" by online content creators since then. My main complaint was on the commenters still blaming "le idol culture" more than your content, which again I thought was pretty good.

As for the content of your comment you are wrong on various points.

As for believing that suisei doesn’t have gachikois..well there is some gachis in my comment section and I have shown receipts of gachis comments as well in the video.
I believe i did a fair coverage of both gachis and antis being in the mix. Yet, you were still unhappy with it. Other commenters have commented the OPPOSITE saying I didnt chastise the gachis enough and that they weren’t antis.
The fact that I am in the middle of both extremes proves to me that my coverage was , in fact, fair.
As a final reminder: You made up your mind in a couple of minutes -but I put days and hundreds of hours of research in this video. Trust me I’ve been around all these arguments a dozen times before you’re putting in there, so I would ask for a little empathy before criticizing me next time, just like I’ve shown you empathy here :) ~

Hololive planified 4 outfit for these streams (covered belly+shorts/covered belly+leggings/naked belly+shorts/naked belly+leggings) and asked every participants what outfit they would want.
