Man i wished i seen this before ... But being a Geek lets go more FUN ... Hats off to you for a clear vid and thanks for the hours you put in ...and sharing ....... Points to be considered ........ Many thanks U.Kingdom
Great video. You got me hooked on Helium. Ordered a bunch of hotspots and a dev kit. Plan on doing a fair bit of mapping and developing some environmental sensors that use the network. Very excited about this project.
Thanks for the amazing explanation! I do have one question if i may; How long will it take if a hotspot has been offline and not syncing (having scale of 1.0) to rebalance the scale inside the same hex? Will it rebalance the scale? (A hotspot with 0.5 scale can become 1.0 if the other hotspot went offline?) If yes, how long does the network need to rebalance? Thanks in advance.
It takes 3600 "blocks" for the network to drop an offline hotspot from rewards scale calcs. A block is currently around a minute. 3600 minutes = 2.5 days
@@thegristleking so after watching again and another video you posted, im a bit confused... im in a super saturated Hex, 19 hotspots and we are surrounded by 2-4s. My reward scale is terrible, .10. But im still pulling in $3-$4 a day. Do you know why or is this a temporary fluke that will correct and I'll drop down significantly soon? Thanks in advance man!
@@VeteranCommand earnings are mostly a function of the hotspots you witness, not of your own scale. If you're witnessing a lot of hotspots, even if they're low scale, you can still do OK (not great.)

Thanks so much for this vid. Much appreciated. I do find it strange that some of the hotspots in the Res 4 hex had a 1.0 reward scale. The ones on the periphery. Why would that be, Gristle King?
Sorted it out. Every hex area is the sum of its "children" hex. So a res 4 "outline" is actually the outline of the res 5s that make it up. All the way down to res 12.
Hi there... newbie here... so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. When you speak about placement... I was under the assumption that placement is where you would live or work etc etc... but when you say it ...its as if there are options or that you can consciously choose your placement away from your home or business. Can you please clarify that? Thanks !!!
Sure. You can put your hotspot anywhere you can make an agreement with the property owners. If you see a building/location you think would make a good deployment, contact the owners and see if you can work out a deal. More on that here: kyk13.com/anatomy-of-a-hotspot-placement/
Very informative and useful. thank you. I was wondering if someone could artificially move the location of his hotspot (lets say) 50m away so to be located in a neighbouring vacant Res 8 HEX? Any idea? I am close to the border of a res8 hex with someone else in it, and we are less than 300m away (and we are both penalised). Moving artificially 50m will satisfy both the 300m requirement and also move me to the neighbouring hex. Thanks again
fairspot did that to me. They put my new hotspot 260m away from my address because i already had an emrit assigned to me there. my fairspot seems to be working fine. After i got the emrit moved over to my friends house i asked fairspot to fix my address allocation but they said they would not for privacy and security reasons they didn't want the fairspot helium hotspot to show up at my house. i was wondering does the original holder of a hotspot grid have an advantage over a new person that comes in and places a hotspot right next to him, in the way future earnings are calculated?
@@ScottDieken I think so as the one near me has always showed 1 and I am at .50 Transmit Scale. :( Now I added a 5.8 db antenna and put it on my roof and to change it in the app they are charging me 55,000 DC, looking to move it to my sons where it would get 1 Transmit Scale, and they want to charge me 1,055,000 DC to move it to a better location. Really? Charging ME to move it and improve the grid? Makes no sense and at .50 TS it'll be a while before it even pays for the equipment I purchased. Had they provided an actual explanation on charges to move or add antennas or best location I would have set it up at my son's house from the start. Not a lot of detailed explanation on setup.
Nik, using the Heliumvision as you showed, I notice on Resolution 10 I am almost on the hex border line, moving my location slightly into the adjacent hex may benefit my transmit scale because I will no longer be sharing this hex with another hotspot. Do you know if its ok to adjust my location maybe 30 meters to accomplish this will be ok to do and advantageous. or is there some complication with having your physical location slightly off from your set location on the app? thank you again for your knowledge.
Isnt the fact that half of San Diego's Res4 hexagon is on the water an ADVANTAGE in stead of a disadvantage? You say all the hotspots get compressed into the land area, but I would argue that you should be happy that half of your Res4 contains no hotspots. So actually, looking on a Res4 level, you could say that you could have double the number of hotspots on the land compared to Res4 areas that are completely on land, and still be okay.
Hi Nik, great video thank you. Question for you, if I have a Transmit Scale of 0.33 but I witnessed a beacon with a transmit scale of 1.0 does my reward for that witness get scaled by my number or thiers?

Hi, Do you know if an offline hotspot is counted towards this count or how long it takes an offline hotspot to be not counted? Also, is it safe to remove it to make sure it's not included in the count?

Hi Nik, great video thank you. Question for you, if I have a Transmit Scale of 0.33 but I witnessed a beacon with a transmit scale of 1.0 does my reward for that witness get scaled by my number or thiers?
Hi Nick, by theirs. It's a "transmit reward scale", so the rewards for any given transaction are based upon the transmitter's score.

Only to the extent that if you get an antenna that's too powerful the network will currently (July 2021) penalize you. kyk13.com/antennas-for-helium/
is there a possibility that they could calculate wrong? I think it is in my case.
Very unlikely. Have you checked all resolutions?
Hi, Do you know if an offline hotspot is counted towards this count or how long it takes an offline hotspot to be not counted? Also, is it safe to remove it to make sure it's not included in the count?
Offline hotspots take about 2.5 days until they drop off effecting the scale. I'm not sure what you mean by "safe to remove it".

registering hotspot been on that screen for 1 in a half hour
is this normal
Nope, I'd back out and try again in a few hours.
So is transmit scale of 1.00 still good, middle or bad?
A transmit scale of 1.00 is the highest you can get; that's full value to you. A transmit scale of .5 is a 50% transmit rewards scaling.
so what if we have 3 siblings instead of 2 at res 8 ? Can we still have density max?
Yep, 2 is just the minimum.
