  • Hello and welcome to Butterfly Effect Wares!
We are a husband and wife team that work together to create beautiful and functional wares, our most popular item being our hand-turned resin diamond painting pens. Abbie works with resin and colors to create the blanks to be turned in to pens and Jon does the turning on his lathe! This channel is a place for us to share the process with all of you. Thank you for being here!
In this video, we are turning a Flower Girl Blank in to a Diamond Painting Pen!

How long from start to finish to fully turn a pen?

Depends on the shape and many other factors.

Beautiful work. I'm just getting into pen turning. If you don't mind me asking, what grits of sandpaper do you use? And do you spray lacquer to make it shiny? Thanks!

Hey! Welcome to the hobby, it’s a fun one. We sand from 240 grit to 600 prior to adding CA coats for blanks like these (with inclusions). Then sand again 240-2000 grit before using a set of polishing compounds to get the high shine finish.

Awesome job. Did you custom make your center mounting pins?

Thank you. I purchased the bushing. There are quite a few ways to accomplish the same thing. I used to use thread finders and covered the threads with tape.
