It’s one of my bucket list items to visit! Found my long lost great grandfather buried in Wallace in a miners cemetery. He abandoned his family in Boston just prior to 1910 and I found him via Ancestry living in Gem as a miner. Died in 1925 buried in Wallace.
Whenever I’m in Wallace, it feels like I’m in a giant hole because of the way it’s surrounded by the mountains. It’s a strange feeling, but not an unpleasant one.
Nice, but having grown up there in the late 50's and into 60's, you missed the gorgeous historic homes, went right by the (back of) great library and its architecture and of course you missed the famous or infamous houses of "ill repute" in downtown which predominated the mining community that went side by side along with all the churches. The most famous madam in Wallace was responsible for the funds for the local swimming pool and the high school band uniforms. It was a most interesting and unforgettable place to grow up.... :)
That was a nice lil drive through my small town.... MIss it dearly! You drove right past my house!!! And Yes!! It would have been nice to have seen all the historic homes!!! Oh and by the way the trolley is for the Sierra Silver Mine tour up the road from where it was coming from and they take you all around Wallace. Great place to live and grow up. Its waaaay up by the Montana/Washington border across I-90!!!
Wallace is a fantastic basecamp to the National Forest road system that literally surrounds it on all sides. From UTV’s and ATV’s to snowmobiles and tank tracks on regular vehicles to take you splitboarding far out in snow country such as Thompson Pass, it’s really hard to beat this town’s location. Some forest roads like Hiawatha for biking, and those out of Moon Pass and the Trail of the CdA’s paved path down to the lake I think really are almost world-class.
THERE'S NOTHING BEAUTIFUL ABOUT THAT PYTHON FREEWAY SCARING THE ENVIRONMENT AS IT CIRCLES THE TOWN. WALLACE IS JUST NOWHERE AT ALL, AND THIS VIDEO SHOWS THE PLACE IS THE KIND OF EXPOSE SMART CITY FATHERS AVOID. THE POPULATION IS ALSO SOMEWHAT RACIST.
Wallace, Idaho is notable for being the filming location of the 1997 disaster film “Dante’s Peak”, in which it is portrayed as the titular fictional town in Washington state, with the large hill overlooking the town early in the video digitally altered to look like a volcano, whose eruption the film centers around.
🔴Hey, these are interesting! It would be very helpful to show where these towns/places are on the map (in contrast to the state and the country), at the beginning of your video.
Wallace,ID :) Nice to see that again. We've been there on July the 3rd. Just to see the grand parade for July the 4th. Was funny and... It is close to that Ride of the Hiawatha bike way :)
I would have to agree with the comment, I live in Texas, and always thought idaho was Flat like it is here and boring, this place looks like a beautiful dream!
Rice Krispies flat headed Calif,s you sure don't want them there pipping Starbucks n McDonald's n n n n = state town ruined..fight to keep your town californicator free!!!!!!?Idahoans say NO to caliphonies coming to you...
When I think of Idaho, potatoes is what comes to mind...Didn't realize it has beautiful mountains and scenic byways...Boise is the only city I can come up with...Wallace must be a tourist destination as it has its own trolley service. You are one lucky guy to have visited so many places in the U.S. of A. Say, have you visited all 50 states yet? Not to be nosey or anything, but why are you travelling all alone? Just curious... ~Bel~
One thing I've noticed, that town is clean, unlike here in South Africa our towns are filthy and neglected by incompetent municipal leaders and by our ruling party, I must say Wallace is truly a beautiful town
I'd like the next earthquake to remove that God Awful elevated highway and get something put in on the old road lyou're driving on that looks normal. Man, the USA and it's highway designs violate every fashion police rule I can think of.

They did a remarkable job of restoring the town after Dante's Peak erupted.
Oh wow I forgot about that 😯 they’ve done an amazing job getting the town back to how it used to be
I wonder how many people watched this because of Dante's Peak. I just have a weird feeling watching this vid because of the movie.

Hi. You missed the historic Red Light district, which bears some of the most interesting information about the people. Thanks.
It seems so odd to see a large overpass or interstate interchange or whatever it is so close to the small town streets in such a pretty town

I like this town and probably will explore it more when I get to Idaho. thank you for this video!
Nice video. Wish you had driven through the neighborhood to see the some of the beautiful historic homes.
okay but this place is honestly really aesthetic and i really wanna visit it 💀
I lived there for a year during high school. Which was about 30 years ago. Missed seeing the homes in the video.
Back in the late 80's there was a Shelby GT 500 sitting in one of the empty stores in the center of town.
Exit 62 in Wallace is amazing that's why people show pictures of it

Is there a bike path that goes along the river to connect the little towns?
