Me and my friend who live in the same area went fishing at the local wharf, and my friend was in the tavern doing a couple jobs getting some food (only like 30 meters away), and I was crushing up some mussels. I saw my rod bend down, as far as i have ever seen it go, and this was my first time using a baitcaster, i reeled the fish in and saw it was a huge blue moki, bigger than my friend had ever caught, and I screamed at him to come down, but he didn’t believe that I had a fish, i landed it and I asked some guys for help, and then he came down and weighed it at 7.5 pound. It was my first and only moki so far.
wat a beast man! congrats on the blue moki! not just ur 1st blue moki but a beast as well!(pretty much the same size as a legal kingfish!) that was also a solid horse mussel u landed as well at 4:40 haha blue moki is in my target list for surfcasting haha hopefully one day
Thanks so much man I'm super stoked on it haha yea so close to legal kingy size. Im sure you will get one eventually. So are those horse mussels legal to gather etc not that I've ever seen a whole one intact before.
Legal to gather, taste pretty bad I've heard never tried them my self, apparently the little round muscle in them is the only part worth eating and is quite tasty
I couldn't believe it was stuck to the sinker like that and I had no idea what it was I thought I had a good fish on hahaha. Yes me too I've never seen a whole one!
@@aransiosaenakeena Thanks heaps man too much! Haha I didn't know what it was I haven't actually been surfcasting for that long. Wish the moki footage was better too bad I don't have four arms to film and fish at the same time 😂
@@dwhatsfishing ahahaha yeah I know what you mean lol I want to pull in a fish and film at same time but I got no go pro yet lol.,where was this location?.
Haha cheers mate I don't know what the rocks called but if you know, you know 😉. Check out the latest moki video wayyyy better filming bite cams the whole nine yards. Cheers for watching! 😁
Epic catch mate! Good to see ya's out on the bricks again. We have a lot of horse mussels in the harbour up my way, they account for a lot of the snags being half buried on the muddy/sand flats, and are annoyingly sharp enough to cut the line.
Thanks man I'm super stoked feels good to be back out in the harbour. That's interesting I had no idea what it was doesn't look like a mussel to me I'm just glad it was legal to take it haha.
@Maccateevee thank you I've got a video coming in a few weeks with one the same size and about five more moki. much better footage and cameraing stay tuned.
definitley give it a shot thanks brother i appreciate that so much it was a long time coming that moki lots of moki baits thrown on other days with no sucess. definitley check out @treesforlunch on youtube hes the bro and hes taught me alot

Oh yo thank you I have seen bits of there shells before but it goes to show I am still relatively new to landbased fishing despite the success I have been having appreciate you 😁 🙏

That's crazy so is that what they are horse mussels? Or similar?
Lol straight up how can you not know what it is it's a horse mussel open it up and use it for bait
@@carylwright5835 😂 I tried to look it up found no info I didn't think it was something no one had seen before though 😂
We call them razorfish (Pinna bicolor), they can be eaten, and if you are walking barefoot through seagrass beds, they can cut you to pieces.
Awesome moki! Thats on my bucket list. Did you use that massive mussel you caught for the moki bait?
Thanks Harry I really appreciate you checking it out and to answer your question yes and I have been throwing lots of crab and crayfish baits too. perseverance finally paid off 😁
@@dwhatsfishing Wow mate. That is an awesome story, so cool
