I absolutely love this episodes, so much going on but really interesting, loved seeing Pj and a little insight of how your filming your episodes, you seem to be making great progress, plus 2 episodes in one week, helps with missing you guys, love toall 3 of you, can't wait to get my next fix of your adventures xx
Hi WalmatWillie we have 2 X 210Ah Eco-worthy batteries on board for all 12v appliances and 1 Heavy duty Platinum battery as our start battery. Hope this helps.
Top tip for cleaning ropes....a net laundry bag. You put ropes in, tie a knot in the bag and put bag in the washing machine. As for remembrance how to thread the ropes through the mainsheet blocks etc...easy, you take a photo first before unthreading.
@@gooddeedssailing you're welcome, they will wash up like new most of the time. Even dirty swing mooring ropes that have been in the water all season come good in a washing machine. I was impressed how clean you got those....and thought 'ouch, that's a lot of fiddly graft'. But credit due you done a good job. Next time you can press the button and watch them spin with a cuppa in hand...a lot more therapeutic 🤣⛵👍⛵
Well done considering the wind , just need something bright and reflective over the overhanging mast end , lovely to see the clear water must be a change from Medway , hope you stay dry and warm 😊.
Great episode! Well done with the ropes Kara, no fun I bet! Good to see PJ doing his bit haha Hope you manage some reading soon - so busy! Loved watching x
This is shaping up to be a great adventure. French canals is on my bucket list. I'd be interested to know what paperwork you needed for the canals. Thanks for sharing the journey with us 👍
Hi Simon, the paperwork and procedure was pretty basic and straightforward. Ships register, insurance but we will share more in the next episode as quite a lot of people have been asking. 😃
Thank you, it is such a great experience and you should definitely do it yourself one day. Glad your enjoying the channel and thanks for the comment. It really helps. 🙂
Thank you, just went through our first big lock, 14m high, definitely worth watching as we show the reality. It will be I'm one of our upcoming episodes. 🫣😬😅
@@gooddeedssailing. We enjoyed the rest of the video, looking forward to the next. There are some very good cycling and walking paths alongside the canals. Phil. Suffolk.
@FIL357 thanks Phil, so nice to get feedback like this. Going through the canals we have hardly seen a soul. Going out exploring today as the weather is a bit damp and we've been on the boat for 2-3 days now. We have our fold away bikes for shopping and diesel runs. We would love to house in rural or coastal Suffolk one day. ❤
@@gooddeedssailing Hi again. suffolk is a lovely county with 5 marinas in or next to the river Orwell (Felixstowe/Shotley/Levington/Wolverstone/Fox’s marina and extensive chandlery on the edge of Ipswich and Ipswich dock itself. Pin Mill has a good anchorage and there are mooring ‘trots’ in the river. I’ve sailed on friends boats all around here and up the coast where there are many other moorings. Good fortune on this current voyage. Regards, Phil 🇬🇧
@@FIL357 Hi Phil, thanks. We do love Suffolk, even got a book Tales of old Suffolk, fascinating read. We visited the mill at East Bergholt not long back. We probably won't be back in the UK for a while and hope to show some great places as we make our way.
Watching with interest. Leaving the Uk next year as you know and was going to do the coastal route to the med. Rethinking it all now and considering the canals too. Looking forward to more vids. 😊
Thanks for the comment. We chose the canal route as something different from sailing as we will be doing lots of sailing in the Med. Its also a great opportunity to see a lot of France and practice the French language, not so much in the marina or canals as English is mainly spoken. Glad your enjoying our videos and thanks for watching. Hope to see you in the Med. Lee and Karolina 🙂
Nice work cleaning the ropes. Looks like the mast came down pretty well. Will the engine alternator put out enough electricity during a day motoring the canals to keep you topped off?
Thanks for the comment Rod. To charge small appliances we have fitted a 500 watt inverter, which so far is working and we are charging the vacuum cleaner and laptop alternatively. Mobile phones are charged through various USB sockets. The fridge is the main draw on the leisure/house batteries so at night we turn the fridge off.
Just found your videos . We can relate to them as we have a sadly neglected Macweser 27 around 50 years old we are slowly bringing back to use . We are based on The Swale so know the places you sailed around. When you first purchased the boat can I ask how much you paid for her ?. Like yourselves we may also require new engine and rig/sails plus other items yet undiscovered . Really good inspiring videos . and proof it can be done .
We got her at a pretty good price of £5500 and which allowed us to spend another £7000 on the new bits and pieces. We got a really good deal on the Beta engine. (We have contacts if you need them) But to be fair she was in good condition when we bought her. All the work we done ourselves under the guidance of the guys in the boat yard. We done it then they checked it. Hope yours goes as well 🤞
Hi, Your cat is obviously an indoor cat (when at sea) so what is your situation regarding cat litter. We intend being live aboards soon so I'm just curious? Do you use clumping or what?
@shnboardman1 Hi, good question. We have tried a few different types and have found the best to be the wood pellet type. These are lighter to carry, more natural, can be used in our composting loo also and create much less mess when he does he's scraping and burying. Good luck living aboard, if like us you'll love it.
Fellow Westerly owner too, I would love to do what you guys are doing but life just gets in the way. What’s your back story? Your too young to be retired. Do you need a passport for PJ? Look forward to watching your adventures.
Hi Gareth, we didnt want to wait any longer so we sold everything we owned (apart from one car, but that's another story). PJ does need a passport but so far nobody has asked to see it. We needed to present our certificate of ships register at the marina and then a trip to border control to get our passports stamped, where they were very helpful and that was it basically. Thanks for following us and we hope you enjoy the upcoming episodes. Are you planning on coming into the canals at Calais or Le Havre?
