As you said, there’s much to learn historically and culturally from these non-canonical writings, and the fact that multiple NT authors directly or indirectly referenced them indicates the importance they played in the early Church. We do ourselves and our Christian communities a disservice by ignoring, or worse, disparaging these important historical documents.
What are the quotes from Jews before Christ that state which books are inspired and which are not inspired? We Christians should not adopt the books of the Jewish Tanakh that were defined AFTER Christ, for the Jews are in error and the ability to define Truth was passed on to Peter and the Church of Christ.
