I've only had the pleasure of going to Miami once (hanged out around the Bayside area) before my cruise embarked... I LOVED the vibe of the place. Did not get a chance to check out Brickell, the city has so much character. I love Miami.

So I lived in the area after my divorce. never felt so lonely surrounded by so many people. after i got out of my funk i was daily going to the la fitness that had just opened up and had a lot of fun in the area. Its not even expensive like some are saying its regular miami prices at most of the places. but there are definitely a couple of baller spots if you want. The regular people places are the best though.
A lot of people find themselves in this situation, In a huge city and lonelier than ever...
Once you realize that the clubs lead you down a path that simply beats you up, the wow factor doesn't impress you anymore.

It’s fine as long as you stay away from the black neighborhoods
Downtown can flood due to the bay rising but to date has never been devastating floods. Most all the buildings have hurricane windows. Buildings/homes since Hurricane Andrew have been built with concrete and most all have hurricane windows. As for crime, Miami has a high crime rate. Not so much in Downtown but definitely in areas like Southwest Miami Dade, Hialeah, Kendall, Liberty City, etc. And be careful even around South Beach. Lots of thieves looking for unlocked cars or items left on seat, etc.
Holy crap, the construction site where you said you didnt want to walk under at 19min is where they had a massive chunk of debri fall on the street a few days later... wild.
Miami clubs are very attractive and dynamic.
