It's called violation of the 1978 religious freedom act. Congressional law.

      Correct.
Farmington is hiding behind rules, but laws supercede rules.

If it's personal property and not offensive, then what is the issue. The cap looked really nice so, I'm at a loss why the school decides they can take it away. It's her property and they have no right to it. Shame!

This is TOTAL disrespect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never, ever, ever touch someone else’s feathers!!!!!!!!! They are very sacred to each Indigenous individual!!!! I stand by this graduate 100%. FHS we wait still for an apology. Every Native students pays for all the renovations with ur school!!!!!! I personally know how much each Native student gets ur school. And it’s a lot!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s like we stepped back in time when we were forbidden to speak our language, practice our traditions and surrender our regalia!!!!!! Enough with the disrespect!

My mom beads grad hats for the native students. Luckily my school allows native students to have their grad hats beaded. My mom saw this video when it first came out she was pissed off she said that if that had been me she would’ve flew down there and would’ve started yelling

Replace the school board with Native Americans and then replace the superintendent an principal to better reflect the diversity of the community they live in

I had the same situation that happened to me when i was a kid at Montezuma it was field day at school and doing skits and I had my Snoopy shirt on and the teacher got mad at me and put like a dress on me and that was not okay what the teacher did to me so I could understand how the farmington grad felt as well to.

I remember growing up in window rock and non natives would often wear their traditional dress on traditional dress up day. Every parent dressed their child. Navajos, Zuni, Hopi, White mtn, Pueblo, Irish, Uzbekistan, Saudi, Aleutian. And nobody at the school said this is only for natives, the school being open about it made every child realize there are different backgrounds and to accept everyone despite how we we're all different. I didn't experience racism and exclusion until I lived near farmington and finished high school in the area. Farmington area is just not accepting of anyone not like them, they are stubborn in a lot of ways.

Completely ridiculous. She worked for that cap. And it’s a honor to have the beadwork. Shame on the school district. Not to mention the school rep does this while the national anthem is being played!
