A Rickenbaker-like shape with a Gibson/Epiphone sound. An immersion in 2 worlds combined. Adding a trustee mahogany bulletproof foundation and maybe changing the strings with some top-notch ones, you have the bass bargain of the century.
Im probably the only person on the planet that will say i had a Rickenbacker bass (4003 jet glow) and didn't like it, while sitting and practicing the body shape was extremely uncomfortable, dug into my ribs, it had ricosound that i never used and it's tonal sound made it difficult to play different kinds of music, when playing out i would have to bring two bass guitars not to mention the big neck, i sold it and bought a German made Warwick and love it, their just not for me. (Almost forgot, i f you need a refret they will have to take about 3/8" thick of shalack off the fretboard, good luck paying for that).
My 1st bass was a '73 4001. I agree, I hate Ric's. Stupid bridge design, ric o sound is worthless, finish over a nice rosewood board. However, I think this version fixes alot of those issues. I want one.
I wanted a 4003 fireglo so bad until I learned about the truss rod, the crappy ashtray, the plastic pup cover, and whatever else. I decided that for $2000+, I expected better. I own an RB-414CS now, and while it sounds nothing like a Rick (and the pups also don't blend unless you rewire them), I feel like the Rick vibe is there, and I'm totally happy with it.
@@ultimazer0 oh i totally agree, the "ash tray" or pick up cover constantly got in my way, it was rite in the sweet spot where i like to play so i took it off and it looked terrible, it looked like like the bass had a gaping hole in the front, you can get a bezel for the pickup but they are really hard to find, rickenbacker and guitar shops don't carry them, they are usually custom made witch means $$$$$$$, and don't be fooled the ash tray is made out of plastic ! I put it back on and sold it 👍.
Same here, had a Rick, the most expensive piece of junk I’ve ever owned. Nothing is right on those things. Might be OK in the 70’s, but now, it’s unacceptable, specially at this price point
I have one, great bass and love playing it. Finish and quality are pretty good, especially for the price. ...but pickups are both very low output, especially the bridge pickup (even raised to the max) and sharp edge on the bass top makes it a little uncomfortable. Still I would recommend it. Out of the box the setup was pretty good, only needed a bit of adjustment on truss rod, pickup guard removed and pickups raised as far as the could be.
Is it back in stock? ❤️And by the way, I really don't care about all the dudes bashing it here in the comments as weird RB copy..this bass it's supercool the way it is and for the price it's awesome. Hope to get it soon. Cheers
The tone sounds really good to my ear. She's a very good player though, and I wonder if that's what is making the difference. Still, I think I'm going to get this because it's just too cool to resist.
Can someone explain to me why they put covers or guards over the pick up , like the bridge on this bass? Should one not pluck or pick a note over the pickup I don’t understand the reason for it!?!
They were used to prevent noise in the 50s and 60s, now they can be more ornamental (technology has evolved) but some of these covers still can be used for noise cancelling, depending on the instrument and pickups of course.
Nope, can only get from thoman , they make them and distribute them And no law suit for them They are the world's biggest music store and distribute Ric for all of Europe and sell more Ric's than anyone, so Ric just turns a blind eye to them
The whole point of it is to be a budget alternative to the rickenbacker, its pretty much the whole point of the brand, not to have their own identity. Thats whats cool about it, if you want an instrument with its own identity you probably want a different brand and price range
Hm, i do wonder, out of allt eh vid's Sophie has done playing/demoing HB Basses which Bass does she like best This one or the MJ-4, MP-4 or maybe the MM-84, be interesting to know which is her Personal Fav.
I'm not a bass player, but I bought this bass so I would have a bass in my arsenal. It seems like a nice bass. Sounds really good, but the action seems a little high. Even for a bass, I think. And after doing all manner of bridge adjustments on all kinds of electric guitars, I must admit that this bass bridge has me completely confused. Everything I loosen or tighten makes absolutely no difference. Like the whole thing was welded in place and adjustment screws were just tacked on for looks. Can anyone offer any advise (or a link) as to how in the cuss the string height can be adjusted on this thing?
Any video on adjusting a truss and adjusting the bridge should give you what you need to know. It's not rocket surgery just a little intimidating for your first time. Don't be afraid to get your tool in there deep and Dirk gently
This is a very good bass for its price point ($200 USD), but they should be honest about how the bridge is not the best design. She talks about a 'cool feature', but honestly the bridge is the worst feature on this bass. To be fair, the RIC 4003 bridge is almost as bad, but to try and push this bridge as having cool features when in fact it is atrocious just seems dishonest, and considering most buyers will probably be beginner players, this is in no way helpful. Otherwise, I commend Harley Benton for their quality and reasonably priced products. Cheers !
It’s kinda sad they have to distort the shape so badly to be able to sell this legally and don’t get sued. When Gbsn is loosing lawsuits for copying Vs and so on maybe its time to do the same with Rck and finaly be able to buy a copy that looks right...
I'm surprised that the notable Santa Ana guitar company never copyrighted that pickguard/control layout scheme, since they will go after anyone else they think is infringing on their intellectual properties. Nice bass though.
I don't know, it looks cool, but when she starts picking at 0:34, all you hear is the constant sound of fret buzz. Either the bass is not setup correctly, or most likely it has a low quality fret job. Either way, if you were making a video to promote your bass, you'd probably want to fix that first. For $200 though, not bad.
I really don't need another bass, but I'm having a hard time resisting this.
Get one. I got mine delivered last week
You can’t ever have too many

can u reccomend the strings?

No.
Get Rickenbacker bass strings!
35 beans/set and are worth every cent.
Lemmy and Cliff approved 😝
and Chancellor and McCarthy
Yes!
I have a Harley Benton Jazz bass and I love it! This new Ricky one looks and sounds great, I only wish I could play like that.
This is on my basses to buy list for sure
damn, Sophie really knows how to make bass sound interesting.
Fit and finishes very nice on these. I have to file the ends of my fret wires a tad but that could be because of the low humidity.
Now that’s some real eye candy right there. The bass looks good too.
Ur down bad bro
I might have to get one. I'm not a tall as Chris Squire, but that one would work!
The bass guitar of Glen Matlock, the good bassist of the Sex Pistols.
also lemmy and cliff

When Sophie says "Let's go!", I expect Johan Segeborn to pop in a jam along :D

I try to order this bass in middle est some one help me to plz how can i order
does it neck dive?
No
Love mine but the neck pick-up is weak and I just had to take the pickup cover off the bridge
Was is hard to the the pickup cover off ?
@@David-pf3he not at all, just two screws, but it also unfastens the bridge pickup so you just need to put it back together without the cover.
does anybody know the weight for the RB414?

The same reason the teles used to have the ashtray prb

Anyone know if any USA-based retailers sell these? Or, would that be a big no-no out of fear of lawsuits from Ricky?
Nope, can only get from thoman , they make them and distribute them

They are the world's biggest music store and distribute Ric for all of Europe and sell more Ric's than anyone, so Ric just turns a blind eye to them
they have an official shop on Reverb that ships from the US but idk if that sells these specifically
it really does sound very good - i wish they hadn't tried to make it look like a RB though - it deserves its own identity to match its sound
The whole point of it is to be a budget alternative to the rickenbacker, its pretty much the whole point of the brand, not to have their own identity. Thats whats cool about it, if you want an instrument with its own identity you probably want a different brand and price range

hi how heavy is this bass guitar I am willing to buy the lefty

Also don't forget some people should just take it to the shop. Might only be a $40 setup away from being playable for you
an angled shim in the neck pocket can help bring the strings down
I doubt about the positioning of the pickup-guard - as a thumb rest it's certainly not comfortable.
Similar, but so diferent. I think that is the less equal Harley Benton copy.

The frets were terrible on my bass - each one a few mm higher or lower than the next - £110 fret dress and set up though and I love how it sounds.
