I just moved into our first home this week! More tips: organize before you move! 1.!The two weeks before I moved, I made an effort to simply organize and declutter, little by little. I got a lot of dollar tree baskets and drawer organizers which made it a million times faster to get settled at the new place. 2. Don't pack blankets or towels. You'll need them to protect and your furniture from rubbing against the truck or other furniture during the move. 3. Saran Wrap your necklaces into rolls so they don't get tangled. Use Press & Seal over other jewelry drawers to keep things in their compartments. 4. Take off the curtain hanger pieces and screws, put them in a snack bag, and tape them to their coordinating pole. 5. Keep one roll of toilet paper in all bathrooms until you're COMPLETELY moved. 6. Try to pack nearby objects into furniture drawers. 7. Don't pack cleaning supplies until your previous residence has been cleaned after the move.
I've moved so many times in my life, I know everything about it!! First thing, before you start packing anything, grab a large suitcase and pack your stuff as if you're going on vacation for about 3 weeks. That way you won't have to open boxes and look for things you need to use right away, in the old or new place. After that, then you can just packing everything and not worry that you might need it in a couple weeks. Second, pack the farthest room from your bedroom first then move towards your bedroom. Then put those things first in the truck and last in the new place. Third, unpack your kitchen first. Leave your room for last except the bed, since you have the suitcase with everything you'll need for the next 3 weeks anyway. I like the idea of using your clothes to wrap stuff. Love your videos! XO
don't let your husband be in charge of packing. it took me 7 years to find the cord to my brand new fryer after we moved. and we found it at my moms. no clue as to how it got there. plus he used our dirty garbage can to pack stuff. in it I found our toaster, towels, utensils and some art from my bathroom walls.
My husband literally had a hissy fit last night as he claimed he just doesn't know how to pack anything 😟 I'm going to give him a thorough lesson today, and pray to God he doesn't wrap everything in garbage. I am so sorry, some guys are just wired differently...
I definitely started watching this thinking "I'll watch it because I love Rachel, though it does not apply to me..." and then you said "if you are going to college" and I thought.... WAIT. I AM MOVING. OH MY GOD. WAIT.
I am moving to my first house this weekend and still haven't completely packed so this was perfect timing! Thank you I will defiantly be using these tips TONIGHT! ❤️❤️💕💕
Good luck with the process! Can't wait to see the new chapter for your guys :) Also! I find it's much easier to use the garbage bag upside down for that second tip! Just ripping a tiny hole through the middle of the top and dragging it down over the clothes through the opening saves way more time :) Then you don't have to struggle with the "pacman" method haha ♥
I have a weird subletting situation (college summer struggles!) where I'll be in 3 different apartments in 2 months! So this moving guide is such a lifesaver. Thanks for the tips, and congrats on reaching 1 million!
I remember watching your videos when you were just starting out with UA-cam. Then you got engaged, married, had Julia and Luke and now you're up to 1 million subscribers! And you're still one of my favorite UA-camrs! I am so happy for you!
I have to tell you, you are (by far) my favorite UA-camr!! You are so smart, down to earth, funny, and just beautiful! You upbeat spirit is contagious and I've learned sooo much from your channel! So thank you for being so original and fun!! And congratulations on 1 million subscribers!!! You go girl!! 🎉👑
I'm getting you in ads now and it's making me so happy! You always brighten my day and now the ads that are so annoying are now little tidbits of happiness!
We've lived in six houses in 5.5 years--the purging is the BEST thing you can do to keep your sanity--I usually just donate everything because I'm apparently lazier than you. Also, the color coding. So. Very. Important. Love the tips and your peppy attitude, Rachel! Best of luck with the move and all that it entails :)
I packed my suitcase as if I was going on a trip. Then I had clothes right away and toilet items as well as make up for looking better to go out to eat until I could cook again.
This is perfect for me because I'm moving right now too.. to an upstairs apartment... in 100+ degree heat.. yay!! I do most of these too! Packing things in other things is my go-to hack!
So excited to see this video!! Couldn't have come at a better time! I'm in the process of moving to my first apartment and this was so helpful! Can't wait to see your new place!
Bubble wrap is pretty much the best part of moving... well, ya know, aside from getting a new awesome place to live in! I've been using that garbage bag trick for clothes for my last few moves and it is a LIFE SAFER! Way to make it even better: get some plain label tags, and write what's in each bag (ie: jackets, shirts, sweaters, etc) to make it easier to hang everything back up in order in the new place!! ^_^
I needed this like a week ago. Just moved into my first apartment last weekend. Ah well, I'll keep it on tabs for the next time I move. Hopefully not for a couple of years.
This couldn't come at a more perfect time! We're in the process of moving from Virginia all the way to the beautiful island of Hawaii. Packing, shipping, planning, and moving... by the 23rd of this month haha! Loved some of these tips, thanks girly! 😊❤️
Omg! Good luck!!! Don't stress too much I know how stressful moving in such a short time frame can be! Everything will work out!!! ❤️ Hawaii looks incredible never been but definitely planning on it!
As a Army wife whose moved a few times, label label label everything! pack a room at a time don't mix rooms! then unpack kitchen and bathrooms first, make sure you have important thing separate, that you'll need straight away! I use a clear box and put into car (first thing I do), so it doesn't get put on the lorry. Also make sure your remove men or helper have clear instructions, I have a broken washing machine sat in storage! as they thought I was being helpful by putting in the front garden! so it ended up the first thing they put on the lorry! (truck, trailer remover van😊). good luck with the move xxx
It might be too late but I would really like to see a video explaining how you pack your makeup to move. I really need some time for the best way to pack it and prevent any of it from breaking. Love you Rach!!!!
Having moved an extensive makeup collection several times my tips would be to 1. Declutter - use this as a good time to part with expired products and things you just don't like. 2. Do not - and I repeat DO NOT - put lipstick in a box that will be sitting in a hot trunk or car. It will melt and you will be sad. 3. I like to pack my makeup in a suitcase I'm taking with me - I don't leave it up to the movers, be they professionals or my husband's friends. Then I know the bag/box won't get manhandled or dropped or sat on or whatever. Plus, going back to 2, I can control the temperature my makeup is at and I can know my 10000 lipsticks aren't melting into a puddle under the summer sun.
Haha love this! Just bought my first house and will be moving in a few weeks. Garage sale slated for next weekend!!! (weather dependent of course - Edmonton girl over here)
I've found that labeling what is in the box and where it goes, while also labeling the rooms in the new home is a huge sanity saver. if you have friends helping you move, they know where every box goes, saving you from having 10 different people asking you questions when you are already under stress from the move.
Yes to everything in this video!!! Just moved a couple of months ago, so I feel your pain. I hate packing but am okay with unpacking, except for the kitchen. I hate deciding where everything should go in the kitchen. 😜 Good luck with the move!
I am definitely a lazy girl but I get things done super fast and really well so that I have more time to be lazy without the stress of a to do list. It's kind of a mixture of my OCD and laziness. Love these videos Rachel!!! Good Luck with the move. I do not envy you moving with 2 babies.
Your first HACK IS MY FIRST HACK, I pack stuff in clean garbage bins, (wrpped in plastic bags) BASICALLY ANY HOLLOW ITEM- CAN FIT OTHER ITEMS AND SOFT ITEMS CRADLE HARD ITEMS THUS as you said packing multiple things at once. #2 HACK, I JUST POKE a hole in top of garbage bag for hangers but your way you save the bag so yes!
I’ve always bought color coded stickers that marked how heavy a box was, it’s importance and if it was fragile or not :) I would always move the most important first then slowly move my nonessential boxes :)
I may or may not have used industrial sized saran wrap and just wrapped dressers filled with clothes and told my friends to load that into the moving truck... and then I did the same with the couches and the decorative cushions still on it. My friends now also love me. Pro Tip: due to bulkiness, please protect sides with some sort of foam or fabric.
This was super helpful (I think, it sounded helpful. I'm not sure thought because the last time I moved I was like 3 so yeah I don't remember) loved it!

always keep toilet roll out and accessible during move...first time I moved I did not think of this but my partner did thankfully

I like standing Rachel. She's so much more emotive and bouncy than sitting Rachel. I didn't know that was even possible for her. Love it! xoxo
Moving in with my boyfriend this summer, so grateful for this list!
I'm moving to a new place this summer. The clothing left on hangers is a MUST.

Congratulations Rachel for 1M! ❤️👏🏼🎉🌞 You deserve so many More! Xox ❤️
It would be nice if you did a tour of the new house. It does not have to be decorated. It could even be bare. I am sure it will be gorgeous.

This video is so helpful. Favoriting it so I remember to watch this when I need to
This came at a perfect time as I am moving across the country in a week and a half and have not even begun packing yet.
I've found that labeling what is in the box and where it goes, while also labeling the rooms in the new home is a huge sanity saver. if you have friends helping you move, they know where every box goes, saving you from having 10 different people asking you questions when you are already under stress from the move.

We did that with my friends stuff when he moved. Even out his clothes in his tool chest. LoL
This was super helpful (I think, it sounded helpful. I'm not sure thought because the last time I moved I was like 3 so yeah I don't remember) loved it!
