CG-4A Glider Now Available in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles

Military gliders, as a mass phenomenon, belong almost entirely to the World War II era. The development of this class of airborne equipment began in the pre-war years, and they were used in the war by almost all the major participants. The most significant combat episode involving the use of gliders was, of course, the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France in June 1944. The use of gliders was massive: more than 800 were used to transport infantry units and their equipment during Operation Overlord, and the main hero of this action was the American CG-4 glider. In total, more than 2000 gliders of this model were delivered to England, but only a little more than 1000 were combat-ready at the beginning of the operation. Still a huge number. A few months later, during the ill-fated airborne Operation Market Garden, more than 1500 gliders were used.
In our simulator, the visual model of the glider was restored with great care and our engineers recreated in its new virtual life all the main features of its control and use. It should be noted that this is a new class of objects for our simulator and we have developed a number of technologies to make its realization possible - for example, a flexible towing cable. In addition to Quick Mission Builder and Multiplayer modes, if you have Normandy and/or Bodenplatte modules you can fly it in Career mode on Western front during major airborne operations - Overlord, Market Garden and Varcity.

There’s disapproval because nearly everyone thinks 1C have bigger fish to fry, and then this is what they spend their time on instead.

Mass-requests from dozens in the community for aircraft and theatres are ignored, and instead we get a glider nobody asked for.

@@jonathanadams9311 So true, where is the pacific theater or aircraft carriers ? These weird single plane projects takes up so much time and energy that could have gone into great things, like the Pacific Theater, or a new map of Norway

Now, if we could also have the inflight-pickup snatch method where the gliders get picked up by a flyby that would be cool.. like in the Shangri-La Valley Rescue

Sweet! Loving the addition, also makes me wonder if we could get a little visibility into the interior on other planes such as the Li2 and Ju52 :D would love to look back from the cockpit and see the parachutists sitting there in wait.

We did,you wanna hear something really crazy? when they were building these things they decided it would be a "cool" idea to get several important members of the community (like the Mayor, chief of this and that etc) to take a ride in one of these gliders to show people how awesome they were.
These were all men in their mid 40s or older,once they were airborne and high enough to cause instant death one of the wings on the glider collapsed all all these guys plunged to earth and died a awful death not to mention some probably died of a heart attack before they crashed, look up on google "William D Becker glider" he was the mayor of Saint Louis at the time.

For some reason I really like when the devs make very utilitarian overlooked vehicles. Maybe my ideal game would be Euro truck simulator but you a are driving supplies on the eastern front

They've said many, many times they're never adding a B-17, I'm afraid... It's a shame given how widely requested it is across the community, but I don't see it ever happening.
