I am greeting you from Hargeisa. Mogadishu is where I was born, I left it ten days ago, I used to play at Lido Beach when I was a teenager. I love the unity and harmony of the Somali nation.
Everywhere on earth was a former colony a some point in history from the countries of the Middle East and Asia to the Ottomans colonizing Europe and the Romans conquering territory in Western-central Europe. Somalia getting colonized for 50 years is nothing when contrasted to Europe being colonized by the Muslims of Andulus or the Ottomans for literally hundreds of years.@@et_matrix
Sly I am glad that you enjoyed your time in Somalia, come back again 5 or 10 years time. Our country has tremendous potential all we need is peace and stability. Despite our problems, our telecommunications industry, banking sector and percentage of population that have electricity is far better than other African countries have never experienced war.
I thoroughly enjoyed your more recent videos from Somalia, Somaliland, and Eritrea. I like your overall vibe when it comes to travel and your insights sir. ☮

Sly, I’ve been following your travels for a few years now. Your travels to South America inspired me to visit Costa Rica last year. It was a good experience and I learned a lot. Thank you. After visiting so many countries, what would be your recommendation in 2024 for a chill city, good vibes, nature and outdoor (hiking/bike riding), peaceful with a relatively low cost of living? I’m not really looking for nightlife/party scene. But I am looking for culture, food, walkable streets, and art. BTW, I appreciate you keeping it real. It’s refreshing seeing a travel channel that doesn’t have paid sponsorship, paid courses, or other scams. How can I donate to the channel?
Represent well Seattle bro. Born there and can’t believe you are walking without fear. Enjoy that beach. It’s beautiful and better than LAKE WASHINGTON
I think the check points were put in place security reason in Mogadishu. I agreed Hargaisa maybe small and relax but the North region went through civil war, political unrest for the last 18 months. Don't let the loosing security in Hargaisa fool you since other cities around it are war zone. Infact if you go others cities in the North, people are very upset Hargiasa clan admintration trying breakup Somalia without the other clans agreements. Some already fought off and governing themselves and others are getting ready to do the same. When you are touris you need understand the issues where you visiting and not to lisen those telling you their area are paradise. The root of the problems are political and the reason some of them telling this is Somaliland others in the region will tell you this is Somalia.
Thank you for visiting Somalia. Just a point "Somaliland" does not control the northern borders it claims as "somaliland". The eastern regions of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC regions) are not controlled by the administration in Hargeisa anymore. That's Somalia, the indigenous clans drove somaliland out of their regions in an armed struggle because they want Unity with Somalia. As a result, Somaliland bombed the regional capital of Las Anod, in 2023, were they bombed schools, hospitals and mosques. As a result of that, thousands of the somaliland soldiers were killed and hundreds of their highest ranking military personal are imprisoned in Las Anod as a write this. So, the secessionist clan enclave called Somaliland is essentially only one city, which is Hargeisa and they will never gain recognition because a small clan can't get recognition. Again, they don't control it's former regions of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn and their so called president and military can't even go there. Somalia is uniting by the day, the secessionists are a minority clan and they are even divided amongst themselves.

From Seattle Washington with love hhhhhh welcome Somaliland brother. I loved the comparison between the two countries and how you putted in context, Hargeisa like a Town in Australia and on the other hand Mogadishu like small town in the wild wild west back in days 15th century American midwest.
You were spot on. However, when exchanging small doniminations of dollars the exchange rate tends to be less. At times, they might refuse a one dollar bill. $150 for a room is rip off. There are so many decent, secure and way cheaper hotels in Mogadishu. You are right , most Somali men are slender, but they can empty massive portions of foods without gaining weight. Perhaps they have a different metabolism and digestive system. This warrants a scientific scrutiny and research. Farah Lugo Baasto is not easy. Ask the locals what Farah Lugo Baasto means.
This is what I got from my Somali colleagues. Fortunately, in some countries, the beauty standards are not as toxic as in the US. Being chubby or fat, specially women, is considered a good status. It means these women are being well fed by their husbands.
