all of PSB is underrated or underappreciated. Their legacy is tremendous, one of the best pop bands of all times from my view. And iam german, not british.
Can you believe it? It's been exactly 30 years since this ironic yet sentimental masterpiece was released, and we are still here, devoted and passionate petheads! Long live the Pet Shop Boys!
yes, I can believe that. my father is The Beatles fan. and he is still here. and he liked Pop Trash by Duran Duran! he borrowed my cassette and never return!
Here we are, exactly 30 years after the single was released. Still fabulous, cool, and everything in between. Music like this deserves to live forever. And it will…
This is the BEST tune/song/ Lyrics , for a bi guy who is still , a little bit confused at 63 ,, married with a female partner who is totally accepting , but it's still a bit difficult to live life as i should .buts that's it , no turning back now.
Absolute monster of a song, both musically and lyrically. The Pet Shop Boys are simply on another level compared with most of their contemporaries. Neil and Chris are just incredible songwriters.
I remember hearing this premiering on Radio 1 back in the day. I was blown away and got excited all over again as I did on first hearing 'It's A Sin'.

Used to get my then-baby girl sleep with this song back in 1993. She was barely 2 years old. Today she's 33 and jolkingly tried to emulate that episode of our lives and the one who fell slept was me, listening to her singing it to me. 😂
I was 12 when this was released… PSB did a fantastic job back then with their ’reinvention‘ for the “Very“ album. All of their videos at the time were groundbreaking for the time with all of that new CGI stuff. And the CD design for the “Very“ album in those Lego optics was & is legendary!
I remember vividly sitting in front of my TV in the living room as a teenager, watching the chart show on a Saturday morning waiting for the Pets new song to be shown and thinking WTF, this isn't what I wanted. How wrong could I have been. The album and following singles were released and it was a golden era for their make of pop. What I didn't realize at the time was it was the Pets doing exactly what they do so well. That is being part of their own world and not following the crowd. Just one of the things that has made their creativity timeless for four decades. Thank you, looking forward to the London show next month and keep being you forever. And also I do remember at the time they did dance to disco, and didn't like Rock. Lol😊
First time I saw this video on MTV, it was a sunday evening, I was getting ready to go to bed and the song and the video touched me so deeply. When I think about it, I realize how I love the Pet Shop Boys so much! I am so so so grateful for everything they have created and how their sound shaped me as a human being. Thank you very much Life for allowing me to live in the same period these wonderful musicians exist.
Tennant says the lyrics are about a "closet queen", but I think it works just as well as a straight man stuck in a relationship with a psychologically abusive woman.
It's strange to see these video's in up-scaled HD. Normally these video's were always "blocky" and that was the norm. But this is a whole new level, I love it! I'm totally curious how It's a sin will look in HD, can't wait!
What a beautiful, timeless video! I've been a Pet Shop Boys fan since 1990 when I was 12. Back then in Iran it was not easy to follow up your favourite music bands but we did it with a passion.
I was on a 3-week business trip to Bangkok in 1991 when I first saw this video on MTV Asia. It was the BEST! When I returned to the US, it was not played at all. :( Thanks to PSB and UA-cam for making this AWESOME video available to me again!
Am American, and PSB is 1 of my top 3 bands ever. The other 2 are not American either, and I credit PSB for imprinting a love of UK and Europe/World music upon me during my "formative" years. Am now a pretty old lady and graduated high school in 1985. I fell in love with PSB's first hit in the States and have been a fan ever since. Spent scads of money on imported CD's because the states lost interest and loved seeing their videos on MTV.
Anyone, literally,NO ONE dared to do something like that in years. So brave, so unique, so amazing the song, the sounds, the video, the "UGLY" art covers..
This track (and video) is so well juxtaposed with "I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing"... which was the 3rd single released from the same album.
@@winterland2011 I seem to recall (and so does Wikipeadia) "Go West" being the second single... but maybe that's US vs UK difference or something. Not terribly important. Just loved the contrasts between tracks on Very ;)

Another night with open eyes Too late to sleep, too soon to rise You're short of breath, is it a heart attack? Hot and feverish you face the fact You're in love and it feels like shame Because she's gone and made a fool of you in public again You're in love and it feels like pain Because you know there's too much truth in everything she claims So ask yourself now Can you forgive her If she wants you to? Ask yourself Can you even deliver What she demands of you? You drift into the strangest dreams Of youthful follies and changing teams Admit you're wrong, oh, no, not yet Then you wake up and remember that you can't forget She's made you some kind of laughing stock Because you dance to disco and you don't like rock She made fun of you and even in bed Said she was gonna go and get herself a real man instead So ask yourself now Can you forgive her If she begs you to? Ask yourself Can you even deliver What she demands of you? Or do you want revenge? But that's childish, so childish Remember when you were more easily led Behind the cricket pavilion and the bicycle shed Trembling as your dreams came true You looked right into those blue eyes and knew It was love and now you can't pretend You've forgotten all the promises of that first friend It's bad enough she knows how you feel But she's not prepared to share you with a memory So ask yourself now Can you forgive her If she begs you to? Ask yourself Can you even deliver What she demands of you? Ask yourself now Can you forgive her If she begs you to? And ask yourself Can you even deliver What she demands of you? 30 years!!!! aaarghhh!!! I once wrote the lyrics down in a card and posted them to a 'straight' 'friend' with whom I had been involved with to try and get a point across. Best closet case lyrics ever.
"Very" was the third album of PSB that I have bought, and I still have it (Vinyl, of course!)! After watching the music video, my mind blows away! I'm still in love with this album, because of "the Theatre", To Speak It's a Sin", "A Different Point of View" and, of course, "Go West"... great days, my escape from the boring Seattle-craze that happened at that time called "grunge".

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS FROM PSB.❤
Primo singolo di very bellissimo brano e ( ai tempi) videoclip top.
Primavera 1993.
I Pets sono i pochi sopravvissuti agli anni 80s
those JD800 synth textures.. that wobbly bassline .. and those regal brass stabs.. w/Neils voice and writing... simply unmatched even now in 2023
