    This video is a gem! I hope more pre-med students find it. My son just graduated from high school with a 3.85 GPA, a 30 on his ACT, and acceptance into the university he wanted, but due to the pandemic and financial issues, we decided that it would be more feasible for him to complete his generals at our local community college. Although the decision made sense, I wondered about how attending a community college would affect his development and eventually application into medical school. These tips are phenomenal and priceless! Thank you so much!

    I wouldn’t be a physician because it takes a lot of training. I will just want to get my bachelor in science and go
    To nursing school. Nursing school should be a lot of training as well though.

    Should you shadow in community college or volunteer? Also, can you volunteer at hospitals? My community college is a block away from the city hospital so I think that would be a great opportunity for me.

    • @vinnygpremed1101
      @vinnygpremed1101 5 років тому +1

      Yes you can. I am doing it right now and Im only attending CC because of dual enrollment meaning im still in high school. If I can volunteer and shadow without a HS diploma, you definitely can as a full on college student. Starting early never hurts.

    I am an X-Ray tech with 11 years of hospital setting experience. I've decided to go back to school for medicine. In my practice, I have seen everything from OR procedures, fluoroscopic and CT guided examination, X-Rays, portables in the ICUs, etc.. Would universities consider these practices as good clinical experience towards my future medschool application??
    I am a former MDC(Miami Dade College) student, previously known as "Miami Dade Community College" which I think at the time was consider one of the best Community Colleges of the nation, but now it's a College because it offers a Bachelor's degree.
    I will probably have to start from the beginning and I'm looking at taking my classes(at least freshman and sophomore years) at this College(MDC) instead of a University for several reasons: cost, convenience, I know the campus and professors as well..
    Can anyone tell me if obtaining your Bachelors degree from a College, instead of a University hinder your chances of getting into a reputable medical school rather than getting your Bachelors from say, a "Science University"??
    Would really help to hear your opinion on this please..

    Do medical schools frown upon taking pre med courses in community college?

    • @corey5454
      @corey5454 8 років тому +5

      yes, take prereqs for your degree not med school at a community college.

    • @StahrYT
      @StahrYT 7 років тому +13

      I know I'm two years late, but their is a physician who answered this exact question. Type in the Pre-med Productivity expert for his channel. Long story short he says taking it in a CC is a great idea, the classes will be easier vs 4 year schools and you are able to boost your GPA and it's a lot cheaper.

    • @corey5454
      @corey5454 7 років тому +5

      Physics and Chemistry are med school prereqs, so don't take them at CC. They are frowned upon, being considered that they are "the easy route" than taking them at a 4 year college or university. If you're going to take you medical school prereqs at a CC, make sure your getting a degree from that school if not than DO NOT take it.

    • @StahrYT
      @StahrYT 7 років тому +17

      Who can say that they are frowned upon? People go to CC for a variety of reasons. We just watched a video of a med student who got a 2yr degree went on to a 4yr program and then on to med school. If you're talking about a post bacc program that's totally different. There is no easy route chemistry is chemistry. The slight difference might be with the instructor, CC tends to hire many Master degree professors, 4yr institutions prefer doctorates. It's true some Med schools won't accept credits because it's not equivalent but all schools have that issue. Don't be discouraged guys just do some research!
