If you're watching this when it comes out, I'm currently live with Crisis Core, come hang out! www.twitch.tv/itslazboi
In many ways CC is even worse than DOC. The plot alone and the way it retcons VII is awful.
This is definitely one of the video games ever made
I'm a rare fan that loved dirge of Cerberus . I own both the regular and import copy and got signed my original copy by Steve Blum
that's disgusting
Thats cool! 😎 Steve Blum is Vincent. 😺
I enjoy it when it first came out
but as time went by i found myself hating the characters
in this story
To be specific the natural role of Omega in the lore is that of, when the planet is too far gone and on the brink of death, unite every living being into the lifestream itself and absorb it to fly out into space and find a new home where the lifestream will start life anew.
so basically the goal of Sephiroth?
So I really hope the entire Cait Sith thing is developed better in Rebirth. There’s some stuff in one of the Ultimanias that says Reeve brings Cait Sith to life using some kind of special materia… I personally hope they go with more of an AI angle. It’s gonna be hard to make him fit well and not be a terrible character.
I mean, they made Yuffie likable, that's the second worst character in the original FF7 that I actually like now... can they make the worst character likable? We'll just have to wait and see.
Answer: Yes. Cait Sith is great in rebirth.
It's a product of it's time, but I'm happy to see Vincent and Lucrecia
Nah this isn’t a product of its time, Dirge was garbage at release as well.
I had a lot of fun reading the plot synopsis of this game on Wikipedia. It just sounds so absurd, like the rantings of an insane person, and the game takes itself so seriously too.
The unfortunate thing about the secret Genesis scene at the end: that's the most nuance and creative depth we'll see from Genesis.
also it setup something that never happen lol
Weiss is Hojo's VTuber avatar

@14:50 Hello. Person from the future here in the year 2023. FF7 Rebirth confirmed that it is indeed pronounced "Kate Sihth" and yes, some people were incredibly upset by it. 😅
'G'
Have you heard of Loveless?
... and now you know why you were told to give Cait Sith a scottish accent. 🤣
hey man i just watched your CC stream and I had to come comment here about how much I 100% agree with all of your criticism of it (sorry about the huge paragraph haha). It's refreshing af to see someone who's natually critical of stuff even when playing casually cus I'm the exact same haha, like I have to believe in a products content and presentation delivery in order to enjoy it and it's not something I can switch off. I'm a huge fan of the original but only got into it when remake came out, and am totally okay with changes and alternative stories when it's well written - but the fact that people genuinely think CC is well written and comparable - if not outright better- than vii really throws me through a loop. Like I've gone and played a lot of the main series since remake and I still think OG vii is one of the most perfectly told stories of all time - I genuinely wouldn't change anything about it plot wise- it handles its characters and the impacts of death and hope incredibly. And then we have CC which plays like a really really bad fanfiction. Don't get me wrong it has a few salvageable moments (like the ending, the junon sephiroph fight, the interactions with cloud and aerith) but that is factually the only thing the game has going for it deeper than a surface level, disrespectful retcon and cash grab. I think a lot of people enjoy it because it's this attractive cool cast, whereas vii was obvs a bunch of polygons and required a lot of focus, reading and imagination to fully appreciate it. Same with Zack - cool funny character but in no way comparable to the complexity and development of cloud- who changes immensely by the end of the original. And yet people say "Zacks way better, he's happy and badass, cloud's just edgy!" when cloud is literally only edgy because he's mentally messed up and by the end of the game becomes a completely different character, a goofball who needs his friends to help him. I don't think this is helped when all of the compilation seems to revert cloud back to his edgy persona- both AC and DoC, they just ignore his character by the end of vii and act like he's just the edgelord he was pre-vii. It's interesting because I think a lot of people love both Zack and even Vincent a lot more then they deserve because these characters were the only one's shown in proper 3D voiced games for years, and means people connect to these characters more easily than a text based ps1 game. It also makes me reprehensive about rebirth, because compilation shows that even the people who created the original game didn't understand why it was so incredible - but remake still convinces me there's hope. Because even though there's some shenanigans going on and there's plot ghosts and stuff, at its core it respected the original and demonstrated an intimate understanding of the characers and their relationships. So I do still love both VII and Remake, and continue to look forward to Rebirth - and I hope you still do too :')
Thanks for the comment, I feel like an insane person being one of the only people critical of Crisis Core. It’s feels nice to have someone agree with me here.
@@ItsLazBoi Oh there was tons of criticism when it first came out. Those people moved on. The fans kept singing.
@@ItsLazBoiYou're not insane. Crisis Core simply isn't good. It lives on via nostalgia.
If CC was meant to be a satire/comedy they did a great job. But really it seems like CC had a handful of good ideas completely ruined by poor writing and fan service. It is awful but you can see how with a lot of effort the core ideas and even character designs could be developed into something really special and good.
Good ideas include:
1. show some Zack back story and character development including relationships with Cloud and Aeirth. Keeping Cloud sort of zoned into "the newbie I am more friendly with than the other newbies when I see him but not hang out after work type friends" for most of it. Ending with Zack's death.
2. Show Sephiroth as a sane and respectable leader and give him humanity and friends.
Bad ideas:
- make Sephiroth's story be catalyzed by his friends having the same backstory as him and being complete ahos who it is hard to believe they even know the meaning of friendship let alone honor. If you must make them prototypes the at least keep them far away from the Nibelheim incident. Preferably in time but if not, in distance at least. Let Sephiroth fall into madness while he thinks his friends are long dead. Having Genesis show up and exposition to him just looks like he is extremely moronic and manipulated easily.
- give Zack and Aerith the same meeting story as Cloud and Aerith. And aside from a few genuine moments cut out most of the relationship development and replace with exposition and side quests where Aerith just fs off rather than completing them together.
- the melodrama dialogue
- loveless being obsessed over as if you had to figure out a way to use the same voice acted and text lines over and over again because you ran short on memory for the game.
- flooding your email box with spam exposition rather than showing and developing Zack's friends in a format that makes people care.
The thing that makes me the most nervous for the remade series going further is they seem to be keeping some of the elements as cannon. Hopefully, it is only the good ideas and some character exists concepts and not the bad writing.
Or people just like the game, it's story, characters, gameplay, music. Just saying.
That was Genesis played by Gackt (who did two tracks to the game). As for you laughing about his voice, Gackt ACTUALLY is who they modelled Genesis OFF, add to that he did the original Japanese voice for the character.
14:40 Welp. That aged well. I love that you absolutely called it that the 'wrong' pronunciation was actually the correct one.
Well at least you know now what Vincent did after FF7 ending.
Dirge of Cerberus is a bad game, it‘s not a total disaster but everything you need to know about Dirge of Cerberus is Lucretia is the Biological Mother of Sephiroth, the Hot Hojo Meme, this god damn character you see in the ending which I would love to strangle and that Vincent is perhaps Sephiroth Father. The problem 2/4 thinks you can learn in the OG FF7.
I really like Vincent but I pray that his gameplay gets a overhaul in FF7Rebirth. And in the end i really enjoy to see your progress and can’t wait to see you cry again in Crisis Core.
Yeah that is a problem the creators of these game have, just like other franchises like star wars, everything comes back to the same place.
The only villain in the world is Sephiroth or Shinra, in CC you have discount Seph in Genesis and discount Hojo with its own discount Jenova project and cells.
And in dirge of cerberus the main villain had to be of course Hojo’s consciousness from the internet because who else could it be, and throwing in another Sephiroth look alike for good measure, Kadaj trio just wasnt enough
This legit had me laughing so hard my ribs hurt.
This game… I know I played it, and I know I beat it, but I remembered none of it when I watched a replay years later. Like… closest I’ve come to selective amnesia I guess?
The reaction to Cait Sith @ 4:45 was priceless! lol
I'm only just starting this, and I'm so happy to see you covering it :D
I haven’t seen any version of this game being played through. I’m curious to see how it works. Excited to watch later
Best part @26:36
Love the story-- just hope they do it right this time since they're remaking it via EC and implementing it into the Remake. It's a very fascinating concept just poorly executed. I just reeeally hope they do more than just a remake because the dialogue and so much is wrong with it.
😂💀
Erase all memory of this game from your mind else it will destroy your brain cells.
Can't believe Remake made Weiss and Nero cool. I have faith in new director. I'm excited for Remake's future.
You played with a controller, didn't you? Ouch.
This game actually supports mouse and keyboard via the PS2's front USB ports. It can't be a combined Keyboard/Mouse receiver, but you can also use wireless keyboard and mouse on it.
You'll need to turn the sensitivity WAY up and remap some controls, but it makes it much much much easier to play.
Personally I loved this game, even if way back when I played it I was NOT a fan of the game mechanics at all. To this day when I jam out to some Gackt music I think of this game and miss replaying it. Probably pure nostalgia, but I think it was a hidden gem that just didn’t quite get polished (or, you know, removed from the geode…)
The double face palm at cait sith 😂
The song playing during one of the final battles and the song during the credits are performed by Gackt, a brilliant musician from Japan who does a damn good Genesis cosplay
I tolerated the gameplay because it was ff7, but overall, I enjoyed the story that Shinra's skeletons still needed cleaning up.
Lucretia is safari's mother
Omega and Chaos being in one screen looked exactly like Alexander and Bahamut did in Final Fantasy IX
Part of my working theory of Remake is that advent children and subsequently dirge are not in the cards anymore as a potential future. I believe though that things like geostigma and Omega will be incorporated into the third Remake game.
I think the Remake version of the Dirge story that started with Episode Yuffie will continue with an Episode Vincent in Rebirth, to reflect them both being optional characters in the original. Then maybe part three will have an Episode Zack that involves Genesis reawakening and bookends Crisis Core.
@@SuzakuX I could see that. Nomura did say in an interview that they were not planning any more DLC though, but plans could change.
Now that I think about it that entrance from Genesis looks a lot like time travel or something, maybe it will come up in rebirth or reborn
42:48, no, the audio tracks didn't slow down, they just brought the voice director from FFXIV: ARR in for the day. Good thing we didn't have to deal with that anymore after Heavensward.
Final Fantasy VII was an amazing game, but the Compilation was a mistake. Nothing will convince me otherwise.
Lmao well it’s coming back in several different ways! I feel like they learned from the mistakes and have molded the cringe into something better lol
@@Joe-y I really hope that's the case but I'm not holding my breath on it. They're bringing Crisis Core back, and that game's story was a nonsensical convoluted mess.
@@FreshMetal80 Pretty sure since the buster sword has been altered this version will align with remake. Why else would Zack be alive in rebirth? There are ways to fix this stuff it just takes time
@@Joe-y Genesis and all of his cringe still existing is enough to make me still skeptical.
@@tiamod eh at this point it’s incredible that they are bringing stuff from over 15 years ago back into the plot. It just makes sense to have it all together
It's dirgin' time bois
Well that sure was a game that was written, designed, voice acted, shipped and played by some people I guess.
i really hope this game gets rereleased on modern consoles like crisis core did
The game is good. Even though some things can be frustrating or ridiculous. It was still enjoyable.
Also they swore up and down that they were not redoing any complication materials…but crisis core reunion comes out this year. That being said if they re-did this it would need to be a ground up remake not a remaster
Final Fantasy VIII time boys.
Good God you can't imagine my disappointment as a kid when I asked for FFVII for Christmas and got Dirge of Cerberus instead. I still enjoyed the game though I'm afraid to go back and replay it though.
Hello. I have been a fan of the final fantasy series since I was a child. I have played through most of the final fantasy games and I definitely recommend you to play through final fantasy 9 as well. I'm sure you won't regret it
Yes please play Ff9. FF8 is also good. 10 is the best only toped by 7. 😁❤️
This game is my guilty pleasure. I love it. Too bad you decided to play drunk.
I never actually finished DoC, but it feels like they were trying to make a Metal Gear Solid game and just... missed the mark.
I still remember when this was released.
I was so hyped because there was a sequel of Final Fantasy VII.
And then....... I got this.......
I don't remember for sure but I think I cried a little...... No, not really, but it wouldn't have been strange, would it?
Actually I do like some story elements of the game, but that's really it.
It plays terribly.
It is abysmally boring at times.
Worst of all, it doesn't even look particularly good.
Anyways, back then I thought it was bearable, but just so.
I played this twice.
First when it was first released and then once more a few years later when I played through everything Final Fantasy that was released by that time.
I still have the game...... I don't think I will ever play it again though.
It was enjoyable to see someone else play it though....... way more so than playing it myself. Heheh.
Reminds me of the older mobile first person shooter games when the enemies stand at one spot, in the open while shooting at you. Really happy that you experienced this though since they add things to the remake that are not in the original FF7 game.
Dirge is finally finished.. Crisis Core is next before 8
Yuffie's a grown woman in this game. Why does she act MORE childish than she did when she was 16?
Dirge = a piece that is considered too slow, dull or boring.
At least the game was aptly named. 🤣
I just realized that Dirge is basically Metal Gear Rising.
This was...I can't believe I watch the whole thing
I played this when it came out in 2006. Unlike with CC, I never thought it was good.
Gotta admit, the game play is really bad and always was, but I still genuinely love the game just because it was more final fantasy 7.
And honestly, still liked the story.
Dirge of Cerberus feels like it's trying to be Metal Gear Solid
If they were to remaster this game like they did Crisis Core with updated controls and balancing I think it'd better received.
Hilarious. Shame you didn't have a shot every time the game is edgy or takes itself too seriously ;) only played it once and don't remember it being this bad haha... I loved Vincent in VII, so I probably looked past the dreadful gameplay and dialogue a bit. What the heck us with the audio slowing down when they speak in cutscened ahahaha
That was a weird-looking Sonic game
Genesis was at the end
This game may have been weak in it's gameplay but the story part of it is still very good. I just wish they had fixed the lip sync of the characters talking for our US dubbed version.
The story is a mess. It actually makes the game worse if considered cannon. Character motivations are all over the map because they just need them to want X in order to make the plot and the game happen. Suddenly mechanized memory transfer is a thing. Massive caverns of soldiers that were known about by key players in 7 including several crazy pants evil people and they just decided not to use them. Transplanting brains is possible now too and Hojo definitely decided to not utilize that and instead inject himself with Jenova cells in 7 instead of just pupetting something to help do it remotely.
Shelke is able to get a physical object from mentally projecting herself through the internet.
I could go on. And on. Why dropping the sector 7 plate and the deaths caused by meteor wasn't bad enough to start trigger Omega but a small town's population is sufficient. Neither of them should... Omega is supposed to be the unrecoverable failsafe. Unless deepground killed most of the people, plant and animal life in the world there really isn't much of a reason it would trigger.
Reconnect chaos into a weapon and then saying weapons can be put inside tiny human shells. It diminishes the power and awe of the planet and how at the end of 7 we were unsure whether the planet would even spare humanity or choose to eliminate humans as a threat to it's safety.
@@LC-sc3en Look all that's your opinion but I still thought it was pretty interesting to me.
Waiting for you to play FFXV
We'll get there!
I love Dirge of Cerberus
A real game that exists
I never played the other ff7 games. This one for good reason it seems lol. Crisis core was only because I didn’t have a psp
I’m assuming that pic of him crying on the thumbnail is a joke? 🤣🤣
you'll have to watch to find out! 😉
@@ItsLazBoi I did and was cracking up the entire time I’ve never actually seen the story for this game 🤣🤣😭
Oh yeah. This was a game.
Why use the stretched widescreen instead of the original dimensions?
it was just how the emulator was set up, not sure
God i didn’t know this game was so bad!
Dirge has some really terrible delivery... But what's interesting, is a scene references remake's final chapter many years before remake came out, and the inconsistency of past info told and repeated, implies that we are experiencing time being altered, as someone who can't tell it is happening and thus fails to call it out.
(Comment made at approx halfway point) Aww man, you went into this without playing Lucretia's cave in the OG game, didn't you? 🤦♀️ No wonder the joins aren't joining for you!
Nope, I did do that in the OG. This game is just really bad 😂
@@ItsLazBoi Ah, my mistake. I was thrown by your confusion at Lucretia holding her stomach/having Sephy visions. My bad.
The gameplay and story are a little meh, but some of it was ok. The voice acting was horrible but the music was amazing :)
I like the idea that the final weapon's purpose was to gather up all the viable lifestream from a dying planet so it can seed a new, healthier planet. Reminds me of how the Cetra went planet to planet seeding them with life too. Maybe somehow this final weapon IS the Cetra and people like Aerith are a different manifestation of it, like a little mini weapon race.
I do wonder if you would have had a better time by not getting drunk and making fun of it with a group of people who find it fun to shit on (the chat). Shitting on something with a group is fun but sometimes its easy let it bias our opinions.
From this edit it looks like you talked over tons of cutscenes instead of giving it a full chance. It shows when you're confused at the plot later in the game. And not fixing the emulator when it started fucking up and powering through when you were tired after 8 hours straight did the game a little dirty.
It sounds like you give it an F, I'd give it a C. I've played WAY worse games throughout my life but this game is in no way a masterpiece. I think I liked of Dirge just a hair more than CC, but that might be becaise I cant stand Genesis.
😂que bueno que alguien es feliz al menos 🤙
Amazing ✊🏽 🎈🎈🎈
Video was very enjoyable. The only thing is you're missing some story elements from playing out of order.and maybe missing some things from the original side content. Lucrecia is sephoroths mom she was injected with jenova cells which is who she has those visions. At the end of crisis core it's weis and Nero sent to pick up Genesis body which is the one with the feathers and flies away at the end. Damn I love this series.
My god, this game is 🗑️
It was like b movie. However it wasnt as much as a cringe inducing dumpster fire as crisis core
Yeah, but that's a LOW friggin bar XD
Crisis Core is good.
Crisis Core is the only one from the FF7 compilation that's tolerable.
Dirge and Advent children are objectively bad by every metric.
One of the worst reactions to this game. As soon as i saw that you were drinking during playing this i knew you would crap all over this game.
lol, imagine defending this trash game, get a brain check, i think your's is damaged.
just gonna dislike before i leave...
Just found the only dirge of Cerberus fan
@@ItsLazBoi I think I only played the Game like Once and never again though...
You enjoyed Dirge about as much as I enjoyed Remake, thanks to them throwing shit in all over the place that doesn't make sense. FF7 made sense as far as FF games go, then Crisis Core came out where the plot was a bit iffy in places. Then we get the trainwreck that was Dirge Of Cerberus. Now we have remake which was no better. Since rebirth will be continuing it on, I think I'll pass.
why the fuck was Antonio Banderas voicing genesis lmfao
When the games name kinda translates to, "Vincents Gun Starts Booing After 10 Minutes"
i have some distant memories of some extra mission with a helicopter that's shooting rockets at me (wich i had to deflect with the gauntlets) that i didn't complete. Aside from that i've completed the whole game. i neither have bad nor good memories about this game but i've always seen it more like a sidestory instead of a continuation
Why does shilke look like Kairi at the end?
Nomura ran out of ideas
