Did your SIMRAD end up fitting nicely in the dash or your Alumacraft? Are you happy with it? I was going to put a helix 7 in dash until I saw your videos and you changed! Why the change?
My apologies for the late reply. Yes, it fits in the dash GREAT. The thumbnail photo from this video is actually a picture of it mounted in the dash. Forgive me, it's been some time since I watched these videos, and even longer since I recorded them, but I think most of the reasons for the switch were covered in the several videos in the series. The short answer is that Humminbird did a very poor job implementing NMEA2k. Their graphs don't support several of the NMEA verbs that I was specifically looking to use, and many of the devices that were out weren't compatible with HB graphs either. Now, don't get me wrong - I still love my Helix units for imaging, and especially for their ability to record sonar and generate my own (more accurate!) maps, but... For "vessel intelligence", I guess we'll call it? They just didn't measure up. They truly are geared at anglers - which is fine! But for a complete dash replacement, there was a lot of additional data that I wanted to be able to see, some of which HB could provide, a lot of which it couldn't. Speed, RPM, engine hours, compass degrees, pitch & roll, fuel remaining, fuel consumed, fuel consumption rate (GPH), barometric pressure, all sorts of stuff. My recording equipment and camera skills have come a LONG way since these videos were first recorded. Perhaps when I get my boat out of storage I'll try to find time to make an update video to this, covering my thoughts after using the SIMRAD for so long.
It's in winter storage now, but I am planning to do some stuff come spring, starting with some maintenance how-tos and reviews/thoughts after having owned it several seasons.
Great 👍
Thank you 👍

I would also like to hear more about your boat .

Will the GO9 XSE support C-Map Reveal card.
No idea. I don't use it for navigation. In fact, I sold the map card that came with mine.
Was there a transducer?
Nope. Transducers are sold separately.

Guessing you haven't been following the prices of graphs lately....
