    This is really impressive but seems like he has the record because he’s the only elite/semi-elite guy to try. Surely some of the top level Kenyans or Ethiopians could beat this comfortably with focussed training?

    • @matthewbittenbender9191
      @matthewbittenbender9191 5 років тому +2

      Robbie Bailey this is different that marathoning. It’s like a top 5k runner trying the marathon with the Kenyans. These ultramilers are crushing what Kenyan marathoners do. They’d have to train differently to compete. I know an ultramiler who had beaten lymphoma. Chemo damaged his lungs for marathons but he found he could ultramile. It’s just a very different type of training.

    • @robbiebailey3096
      @robbiebailey3096 5 років тому

      Matthew Bittenbender sure, that makes sense. Do you think an elite marathon runner could do this with the right amount of time dedicated?

    • @matthewbittenbender9191
      @matthewbittenbender9191 5 років тому +1

      Robbie Bailey absolutely. Just a change in training regimen, but a wry different one. And while I’m sure there are some African ultramilers I rarely see any of them competing. I don’t think that there is enough prestige or coverage of the sport like marathons for them to settle on a lesser supported form of race. Kind of like MMA in the 1990s.

    • @robbiebailey3096
      @robbiebailey3096 5 років тому

      Matthew Bittenbender ah ok that’s interesting, is this form of racing given good coverage in the US then (I’m from the UK)? I can’t imagine it’s an entertainment sport just because of the time it takes

    • @matthewbittenbender9191
      @matthewbittenbender9191 5 років тому +1
