- I bought this on a DVD for a dollar and it's the most utterly terrifying animation I've ever seen. There's plenty of effort put in, but it's done in such a way that the whole thing comes across as scary and bizarre. the way faces are drawn can range from children's drawings to twisted nightmare creatures, and it just keeps getting stranger until it finally ends.
I thought of these as fascinatingly terrifying when I was a kid. Now they're haunting. Thanks so much for posting!

These animations are why I have a drinking problem, but it was totally worth it.

I personally think the way Rumplestiltsken dies at the end is way more terrifying. It's also a rather unique, to the point I'd like to see a modern animation have a villain die in a similar manner.

I have been looking for these for years now. I remember Pat Morita hosting a Children's Fairy tale show.
This one was very memorable because the illustrations were just soo creepy but entertaining

I remember watching this at night in my family room when I was like 6, I might as well watched a horror movie. The ending credits were my only solace.

This version cuts out alot of the story's context and in quite a few versions he was either going to eat or violate the baby. This one gets around it in a strange way by saying the child will be his slave more or less.

The little man told her IF she can GUESS his name then she will then BREAK her promise to him BUT she did NOT guess his name in fact she was TOLD by her MESSENGER that the little man's name was RUMPELSTILTSKIN.
Being TOLD is not the same as GUESSING.
the Queens father should be lucky that her first royal decree would be to banish him for putting him for putting her in this spot

One of the names the miller's daughter suggests is Whuppity Stoorie which is actually a Scottish folktale based somewhat on Rumplestiltskin. Basically, a fairy woman cures a poor woman's dying sow--in exchange for her baby boy--of course the woman only knew this after the fairy cures the pig. If in three days, the woman can guess the fairy's name--she can keep her son. The fairy's name is Whuppity Stoorie.

here's a thought. don't rumplestiltskin and mxyzptlk share a few similarities? say rumple's name and he dies, trick mxyzptlk into saying his name backwards and he is banished to his own dimension. that and their both tiny mysterious men with supernatural powers

Dying to get this on DVD, but it's no where to be found.
I'm honestly suprised I found it. I managed to get a few of these DVDs from the same little store, but it closed down about 6 months after I bought these. (mainly he sold the whole stock of knick knacks off in bulk) I don't know for sure, but these might be a weird bootleg distribution? they don't seem to be VHS transfers though.
Holy moses with tablets of gods ass, this is amazingly bad ... I love it.
