_I ticked the like button as soon as I saw supercharged in the title 😁 .. while not huge numbers, it’s all about the power delivery and everyday usability_
I miss my E30, I had a 318i sedan with the “worst” engine the M40 (a very simple and easy to fix engine too) , I liked it a lot though, not fast but it felt fast. It was very light and its still its the best car I’ve driven. I remember talking to the owner of this one on Instagram, a few years ago very nice guy. The E30 people in NZ are very good people.
Such a back-road weapon - was lucky enough to drive this a month or two ago and loved how responsive it was - like you say - perfect power to weight for our roads.
I supercharged my e30 325i. It was a facelift South African 4-door with a mtech-II body kit. Running low boost it made similar power to this. A friend had a turbo 318is. The lighter and more even weight distribution of the 318is was an advantage, but I loved the sound and power delivery of the bigger displacement straight 6.
@KiwiCarLife It was a barrel of laughs and sounded insane. The supercharger whine and the straight 6 on song was pure rapture. I miss it dearly. It went to Wellington where it was looked after but has since come back to Auckland and been abused. Very sad. I built it myself in my Dad's shed on a dirt floor. Fabrication and initial engine build by Kerry Mosen for a different project car, then improved on by me and put in my car before being dyno tuned by Gavin Bellars. Was super reliable and an absolute head turner of a car.
You actually deserved to refer to it as "super special" because that setup is close to perfect (in theory) as you experienced. Better than a turbo because the linear response is easier to use in all of the real world driving we do on the daily. You get it when you need it more of the time. plz dont flame!😂
that's the only other DASC in the country. I know Anselm quite well, great guy. we've exchanged lots of notes regarding these Downing Atlanta supercharger kits over the years!
that car is just right..most cars are too heavy now your videos are good cos u review all different makes etc while some channels just review the same cars like the golf r etc good cars but too common over here in the uk
@@KiwiCarLife Any plans in the future to have channel memberships? I for one would certainly sign up. You changed my view of Hondas mate. Even went and bought an 04 Acura TL 3.2 with the manual for my daily driver (for the American roads I drive the J series seemed like just a bit better of a fit vs the TSX's K series)
I remember when these kits came out about 30 years ago, not sure which is better, doing this or swapping in an M50 instead 🤔 Of course back then going stand alone ECU wasn't an option, all they did was change the injectors, add a chip and an FMU regulator, typical mods back then which technically worked but can't compare to a standalone ECU.
Yeah I guess the problem with an M50 swap is weight. Iron block so a heavy engine up front. This way it makes m50 power but is much lighter and more compact
Love the build but would hate to think how much it cost all up. Glad this owner saved the old girl and did what they wanted rather than look for value otherwise they would of started with a different platform
@@pdouangsavanh would have been a lot more $$ for the parts to convert it to rwd and to mate to the gearbox. plus I wanted to keep it bmw and keep it unique. but the k series are great engines and work very well in e30s too
@pdouangsavanh there are, but still not cheap to make everything work. staying m42 with the DASC means that it's period correct and it's 1 of 1 in NZ too which is cool. but K series would have been a good option as well.
Whoever built that car definitely knew what they were doing, everything fits so well in that car
Yeah man it’s perfectly put together!
230hp in that car is PERFECT amount of power. Not too crazy but usable. E30 coupe is one of my all time favourite looking cars!
Definitely ideal amount

Nice review of a very well thought out and put together car!
Would be high on the list of best old school drivers cars for sure!

Yeah man it’s a great setup. Doesn’t necessarily deliver the most outright power, but is definitely the most refined driving experience
There's an E36 318is Motorsport with the same supercharger around Auckland as well, would be great if you review it

Mine is certainly not as refined as Nic’s but is definitely something different, still gots lots planned for it.

What rotary polisher and polishing compound do you use for restoring the paintwork on your cars?
