  • In this week's vlog, we challenged ourselves to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner eating only street food. Phnom Penh has a huge street food culture and there are endless carts to find a variety of foods! We tried everything from vegetable fried noodles, frogs, bugs, and much more! We hope you enjoy watching :).
If you enjoy watching our videos and would like to buy us a cup of coffee(for our raging coffee addiction - lol), you can do so through this link. Thank you so so so much!

Hello from Cambodia , The thing inside that frog belly its called " Kroeung" the spice paste distinguished by aromatics such as lemongrass and kaffir lime that are so intrinsic to Cambodian cuisine - and is garnished with the foraged wild leaves, aromatic herbs and edible flowers so important to Cambodians for their fragrance and flavour, as much as their sense of aesthetics.

Many Cambodian dishes are made to eat with rice, so it can be salty if you eat them separately like the sausage and the chicken thigh you bought.
And you didn’t get ripped off with the two pieces of meat. They are around that price. The sausage should cost $0.50 and the thigh should cost $1-1.5.
Most the meatballs you ate most probably were made of pork and beef. Pork and chicken meat are the most affordable types of meat here.

    Tips for eating bugs:
    1. If it's not have wing, just chew it all
    2. If it has wing or any hard part on it body, remove those things and eat it.
    3. If the bug has smell, don't eat it.

Great videos! Just stumbled upon your videos and I'm liking it ☺️ new subscriber. If you're still in Cambodia, you should go to those shops and get dressed up for a traditional Cambodian outfit photoshoot. It makes for a fun souvenir. My husband and I did that when we went to Korea and plan to do that when we get to Cambodia. Keep up the good work and you are a lot braver than I am with eating bugs. I rather go bungee jumping but that's how cringey I am and bungee jumping is NOT on my bucket list 😂🤣

The meat you guys ordered (sweet sausage and chicken) is typically eaten with rice as the flavours on its own are quite strong so the rice balances it out. The sausage is kinda like the chinese sausage its a bit more fatty and sweet.

The bitter Mellon is good for your health. It’s not cockroach, it’s a water bug. You should buy freshly cooked frog legs, one that the vendor can re-grill it for you. They take the frog meat out, chopped it up and mix it with seasoning called kreung (lemongrass with other herbs) and put it back into the frog belly. They may have mixed it with ground chicken or ground pork, I’m not sure. If the frog leg looks plum, it’s fresh, if it looks small and dried up, it’s not fresh. I love fry chives cake. You should try fry jicama cake, it’s also very good. For desert, you should try the custard, it’s so good, or better yet, fresh tropical fruits, which we have plenty of. Thank you for your bravery in eating our street food and for coming to visit Cambodia. Safe travel!

The chicken is just regular chicken the sausage is twa Kgo it's supposed to be a bit salty and sour, lol and Y'all had the bitter melon lol it's not my favorite it's ground pork with vermicelli noodles. The frog is stuffed with ground pork and seasoned with a lemongrass paste the clams are cockle clams aka blood clams... you guys are trying some of the worst Cambodian food 😂 but that's awesome you guys are adventurous!

I think you got ripped off with the cold chicken and sausage. Frog is actually good even in the states. Tastes like chicken and catfish combined when it’s fresh.

Good video. Welcome to Cambodia. Those deep fried stuff are made of fish paste and you need to dip in that sauce, otherwise they wouldn’t taste that good. Grilled bananas are good. stuffed frogs, I’m not a big fan 😂 That sausage was a khmer sausage, it’s sure I’m the sweeter side which khmer people would eat with either rice or porridge. It’s really different from American or European sausages.

Yeah, definitely lots of interesting foods! We loved trying them all 😊 Sometimes during our travels we have some difficulties figuring out exactly what we’re eating and how to eat it, but we try our best.

Can I ask, when I was in Phnom Penh I usually used US dollars. I noticed you are using local currency. USD is usually preferred. What is your experience ? Thank you

We used USD too but they give your change back in local currency, so we tried using them when we could too to get rid of it!

Not quite. She said "If that nose was cut and put on my kids, that will be beautiful" still funny though lol. We Cambodian love high bridged noses.

I think the sausage that you were eating they used it with fry rice. I don’t think people would be eating it plain. It wasn’t cockroaches it was crickets. The black bugs are water Betels. Take the wings off before you eating them. Just like you don’t eat chicken with feathers on

For the first time traveling to Cambodia, eat only freshly cook foods and avoid local water or fresh veggies or you will get diarrhea. You haven't tried the Balut and Durian fruits, the most challenging food for most foreigners hahaha. And by the way, the lady that was selling the fried bugs said if you guys were to have kids, they would be so beautiful. :)

    • @AttilaAndZae
      @AttilaAndZae  2 роки тому +2

We only got sick once in the beginning and have been ok since! As for the fruits, Zae did try the durian other day, not on camera though, she liked it. We don’t think it smells as bad as people make it seem! And thank you for the translation, what a sweet comment from the lady, we wish we could have understood her and thanked her aha 😂❤️
