Thanks Martin, it's a great place to explore especially if you have children like we did with us that day, but of course we loved it too.. Thanks for watching glad you liked it 👍 😊
Great video guys. Great aerial shots and footage of the site. I played airsoft there for the first time as a teenager back in I think 2009. Going to have to pay this place a visit some time in the near future.
Must have been great for Airsoft! Thankfully it's been mostly looked after now and preserved. It's a great place to visit definitely worth an afternoon out. Thanks for watching 👍
As you may know we really love ww2 history but have recently started getting into the older fortifications especially napoleonic, they really are quite fascinating.. 😀
40+ years goes by in a flash! Born and bred in Gillingham me and my mates used to explore and play, on log hot summer days, in those derelict tunnels (before they were barricaded) during our yoof - even though you weren't allowed to and it was probably quite dangerous. There used to be hidden entrance tunnels all over and around the Great Lines. I left Medway and England years ago so what an unexpected nostalgia trip. Thanks guys.
Must have been an amazing place to explore before Health and Safety completely took over.. We believe there's still a good few hidden bits along the lines where access is possible if you know where to look, we are definitely going to return soon to try and find some more.. Thanks for watching and sharing your memories 😊👍
The cavities around the Grand Magazine was to place candles for lighting, sealed behind glass. Along the walls were regularly spaced windows and at a time when the only source of lighting was a bare candle flame they could not be used in proximity to gunpowder without precautions. Ventilation, although useful, was a secondary consideration to blowing up the entire structure. Fort Horsted has an excellently preserved example of this.
Once again a great video - very informative and nice clear shots of everything to match the narration. Been to Chatham/Rochester loads but never actually checked out Fort Amherst!
You should definitely go! There's loads of hidden bits of the fort dotted around the town as well as the parts that are looked after.. Thanks for watching guys 😊👍
@@BeyondthePoint yes we did the Sally Port last year but there was definitely more to see we just didn't have time.. ua-cam.com/video/Zei1QAv7_DE/v-deo.html
