- Ginette Petitpas Taylor, the minister of veterans affairs, and General Wayne Eyre, Canada’s chief of the defence staff, are among the participants in a ceremony at the Canadian War Cemetery in Bény-sur-Mer, France, to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
Approximately 14,000 Canadians took part in the Allied landing at Normandy that marked the start of a successful campaign to retake northwestern Europe from the Germans during the Second World War.
