  • Here's an overview of the development process for my arduino, servo and 3D printing based animatronic heart mechanism, as well as a simpler version I made using a DC motor. This video is based on the build-log style posts I made to my Patreon page as I developed the designs.

    This would look super cool if you could use a wire mechanism (like a speedometer cable for example, whereby the cable rotates inside a sheath) to locate the motor remotely from the heart mechanism, and submerge the heart in a bell jar full of liquid, like some kind of mad doctor's laboratory prop from a horror movie.

    If you have to run power to the heart anyway for the servo version, might it it have been easier to use air motors/pistons, etc and pneumatic lines instead of power?
    air pressure seems ideal for the sort of movement you're trying to emulate, as well as solve a lot of mechanical problems.

    that's great job but i have to mention that the actual heart movement is really different than what i see
    -the heart contains 4 chambers each 2 are connected separately and you gotta respect that or create a new pneumatic circuit
    - the size of the chambers is important too .
    consider those two things because from my view they can push you to do radical changes at an advanced stage in the project .
    good luck

  • @roidroid
    @roidroid 4 роки тому

    I'd have put the segments on stiff springs (or rubber bands) that will spring back after being pulled, then used little linear actuators/pistons (maybe operated with a little cable pulley inside?) to push the segments out, then at the end unpowering or reversing the motor to make the quick "contraction". Best if the motors are back-drivable, tho might not matter if it's being actuated via a cable-pull around a spindle.
    Tho uh... in hindsight you're probably not looking for ideas for redesigns, THIS deep into the project 😅.
    Edit: Actually this might be some workable advice: Can you add some rubber bands to the back of the panels in your current design? Just so it encourages it to spring back faster. Could be an easy tweak.

    • @WillCogley
      @WillCogley  4 роки тому +1

      That's a good idea but the silicone/fabric jacket is quite elastic itself so I think to add more spring would be too much for the motors. Although some kind of spring in the opposite direction might help the motors out a bit with the expansion. I like your idea of using little linear actuators though, that could be a bit more power efficient.
