- Sharon is doing some shopping at her local jewelry shop. When she comes across Melissa, the saleswoman, she is greeted with rudeness and discrimination. Melissa age shames Sharon relentlessly and refuses to sell a necklace to her. When Sharon has had enough of this rude behavior, she decides that she is simply going to take the necklace.

I went shopping in a high end boutique wearing my winter farm clothes. It was a very cold winter holiday time. The saleswoman treated me like i was dressed like a fine lady. She took get time listening and helping me pick a gift for my mom. After the sale i thanked her for being so kind and helpful especially since i wasn’t likely her regular customer. She answered that she treated all her customers with respect - which they all deserve - no matter how that are dressed.

I am 75 fit and attractive like that lady and have encountered equally rude young ladies while shopping. They deserve to be fired.
It sounds as if they are going through the 'I am entitled' phase. Sorry you endured that and I bet they are the type who preach to other people about 'be kind' as well.

Some years ago, I was mistreated by a sales person because of the way I appear. I could afford to buy anything they were selling and a lot more. The sales person took me for a waste of time. I brought my business to another place.
Amen, my time and money are valuable to me. If i am poorly treated the money leaves with me 😮

MultiMattman was probably regarding how insulting this young woman was to the older one. She was very quick with the insults to the older woman. Although this is a story we all know what typical name callers some young people are today.

That saleswoman is disrespectful and judging others by their age. When you are working in a professional job you have to learn to respect and be kind to others and not judge others by their appearance, age, and religion.
Age appropriate 😂🤣 Some said that to me! She came to my house made comments about the way I was dressed and told me that she was an expert on trend for my age because I was an vieja (Spanish word for old). I told her that I was comfortable the way I was dressing that I didn't need to be on trendy fashions nor I needed approval from her to be dressed. 😊

My Godmother is Spanish - has been in Australia for over 60 years and doesn't look or dress like she was born in 1941 - she was though.
Also all rockers dress 'young' and still look fabulous no matter how old. It is about how you carry yourself.

Ageing is a blessing - so many young people don't believe that, but if they live long enough, hopefully they'll understand. My mother & grandmother would have slapped me silly for talking to an elder like that.

I've worn a size 16 all my adult life. I've had a couple of clerks act like i weighed 800 lbs. It's sad that customer service isn't always what it should be.

I know the attitude after watching people like her with my mum. I have to ask though, how much training did she get. What service expectations were given, what job standards/bench marks of customer service and sales? This isn't just the checkout chick's fault.
