It's either an issue on your motor skills that keep you from producing sounds and, therefore, speech or a language impairment in which your brain doesn't understand language overall. "Going nonverbal" can't happen. What happens to most of level 1 and 2 autistics is that you can perfectly produce speech but there are situations that affect you psychologically and you are unable to speak for a certain period of time. This is what people like to call autistic mutism. Not trying to be rude but just wanting to shed some light!!

I want to learn more about it so I can understand them better when it does happen, one of our other friend just tries to get him to talk when this happens and I know that that is not a good way to handle it, what I do at the moment is just talk about something that doesn't necessarily require a response. if its okay with you, could you explain it a bit more and what to do in these situations? sorry if this is a bother!
