  • A composition of multiple different camera angles that I recorded during the historic 5th flight of SpaceX's Starship.
Starship FLT-5 (otherwise called IFT-5) lifted off this morning, October 13th 2024, at 07:25 local time. The vehicle successfully launched, did not suffer a single engine failure, and proceeded through staging. Following a successful boostback burn of the first stage, it began targeting the shore to make history. At around T+7 minutes, the first stage Superheavy lit up all 13 of it's center engines, and landed at the launch site successfully. This test was a first-of-it's kind recovery technique, which involves catching the vehicle out of the sky with a pair of giant actuated arms. The ship proceeded to orbit around 2/3 of the planet, before successfully reentering earth's atmosphere. The ship entered it's "bellyflop" descent phase, lit all three engines, and successfully landed in the Indian Ocean. About 20 seconds following touchdown, the ship suffered an anomaly and was lost, however, this test was still deemed as a complete success because the vehicle proved it could survive the entire descent and landing phase of flight.
This video was filmed from Isla Blanca Park in South Padre Island, TX.
