Ukraine says it shot down Russian A-50 spy plane | BBC News

- Ukraine's military has said it has shot down a Russian military spy plane over the Sea of Azov, in what analysts say would be a blow to Moscow's air power.
Army chief Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi said the air force had "destroyed" an A-50 long range radar detection aircraft, and an IL-22 air control centre.
The A-50 detects air defences and coordinates targets for Russian jets.
Russian officials said they had "no information" about the attacks, but prominent pro-war Russian commentators have said the loss of an A-50 would be significant.

They aren't struggling to explain what happened. This is purely speculation from the Ukrainian government. Basically they are desperate for anti air systems and ammunition so they have over the past couple of days used 3 stories for this purpose. 1. Yesterday they reported extremely low success rates with anti air systems only shooting down 8/46 targets. 2. Then Zelenskyi came out and said "we destroyed 26 helicopters in 1 day with an unnamed weapon system. 3. Now they are saying they shot down 2 spy planes which operate at extremely long distances. All of these things are propaganda pieces aimed to increase donations to them for anti air systems and ammunition which they currently are on critical levels.
They never have admitted the loss of their flagship mozkva .They will never admin the loss of this plane as well.

The A-50 was probably shot down with a Patriot missile
Just like they reported when the Moskva sank "in rough seas", the Russian Ministry of Imaginary Victories will report that the plane went down due to bad weather or the pilot was smoking, etc.
On the Defense Intelligence website there was an update in late November saying that due to concern of Ukraine obataining Western firghter jets, they have modified the mission of the A-50. It involves flying them closer to Ukraine. This is done to bolster Russian defense, but it also increases danger to the A-50's.
What I'm wondering about is if Ukraine has used the F-16s already to complete that mission. They wouldn't say or show evidence if they were already using them in secret.
@@fredbyoutubing Both of these aircraft were hit outside of the range of known Ukrainian air defense missiles. Slight possibility of a longer range Patriot, but unlikely. Or an S-300, but also unlikely. It is most likely that these were air-launched missiles. Could be Ukranian Mig-29s, but yes, I suspect these were F-16s making a debut. I don't think Ukraine would confim it. That would basically reveal where they have them stationed.
