Just For the Summer - I agree, and so true! Not A Love Song - steamy and delivers what we all love! I enjoyed this even more than the 1st, but Soto does well for the series. Your recommendation on the Spellshop got me to buy the physical book!!! The same for your reco on In A Jam - it was excellent too!. One Dark Window is good...Two Twisted Crowns will wrap everything up so well, especially the magic. I want to read A Magical Girl Retires soon!
A Magical Girl Retires sounds so fun! And I'm glad you liked The Spellshop and The Housewitch, because I have both on my TBR😂 2024 was a strange reading year, like I read a lottttt due to circumstances, but there were also a lot of weird reads😅 I think my favourites can all be summarised as dark/mafia romances, lots of them by Evie Rose, mysteries such as the Veronica Speedwell series, return to manga, and a one or two romantasy books. And of course the standard bulk of PNR novellas, but none of those really stood out🙃 I think my overall favourite of 2024 was Desperate Measures by Katee Robert⭐
It was really fun and stuck with me all year so I definitely think it's a god one to try if your wanting to dive into more "lit fic". 2024 was really the weirdest reading year in a way I didn't expect. What a good favorite overall though. That book that series is just so good. 💖💖💖💖
I'm glad you mentioned the accuracy issue 😆 with some of these books. Sometimes I can suspend my disbelief, sometimes the mistakes are so glaring I give up. I'm jealous of your greater ability to suspend disbelief.
Adding some of these to my TBR, I really want to get to In a Jam even though I usually avoid contemporary romance. And excited it's on KU! My top favorites were all sci-fi or fantasy (A Desolation Called Peace, Jade City and The Tainted Cup) but definitely had some romances in there too.
If In a Jam doesn't work totally DNF it but I feel like it takes a lot of contemporary romance stuff I don't always love and makes it different. I'm really excited to try Jade City this year. I have a feeling it will be a series I can't put down 💖💖💖
@@HappyforNow I definitely have high hopes for In a Jam, especially with what you said about 3rd act breakup. I got kind of burned out on them even though I love romance. Hope you love Jade City when you try it! It's some of the best character work I've ever read.
I still don't get the criticism of Bride. Lol. But I think you're right, I just accepted this as some sort of Nalini coded world. And I was very here for it! I really hope we get a sequel.
I think it just depends on the kind of reader you are and what your PNR preferences are? I mean that was all I could figure out. I think some people can not handle the idea of a loose world. It really was like a love letter to that era of PNR vs what we see now 💖💖💖💖
My two surprise favorites of the year were Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao and Me by Elton John. Dear Wendy is about two aroace people befriending each other while having feuding relationship advice Instagrams for their college, and Me is Elton John's autobiography. I really did not expect to love or appreciate these books as much as I did.
OO okay that is good to know. I had looked at Elton John's memoir before and was like maybe? I feel like he's lived an interesting life so it could potentially be a really interesting read 💖💖💖💖
I really liked The Spellshop. Cozy definitely works best for me on audio because some of them are just too long or too slow :) Favorites of the year - Books - Only for the Week; The Fox Wife; The Very Irrefular Society of Witches; The Spellshop; A Sorceress Comes to Call; The Teller of Small Fortunes; Tie Me Knot Light Novels - The Abandoned Heiress Gets Rich with Alchemy and Scores an Enemy General! ; The Drab Princess, the Black Cat, and the Satisfying Break-up; Manga/Manwha Villains are Destined to Die; Secrets of the Silent Witch; The Holy Grail of Eris; When I Became a Commoner, They Broke Off Our Engagement! ; I Will Become the Villain’s Poison Taster; The Villainess Captured the Grand Duke; Things I liked well enough to binge Amaranthine Saga; Lola Glass; Nisha Sharma - If Shakespeare were an Auntie; Henri Davenforth; Saint of Steele; Meredith Ann Pierce Darkangel Trilogy; Molly Harper Mystic Bayou; Patricia Briggs Sianim & Mercy; Ilona Andrews Kinsman Universe;
I am noting the light novels and manga for myself! I feel like this is a solid list and also sometimes those things you like enough to marathon are just great to have. I sometimes feel like those are the books that keep me reading between the very favorites. 💖💖💖💖
@@HappyforNow Bingeable books - I mean objectively a lot of them are 3-4 star reads but very engaging. It is also interesting which series are really bingeable and which aren't :) I look at Nalini Singh's Psy-Changling and Guild Hunters and these days Psy Changeling I would not want to binge read one after another but probably could do GH. I do wish more of the light novels and manga and really the audio versions of the light novels were available from my library. I guess I need to look more closely at how to request books :)

My brain does not have time to over focus generally with that stuff. It's been a thing i've worked on for a long time though 💖💖💖💖
@@HappyforNow For sure. If I read for my job, I'm sure my standards would be different. 👍
The Spellshop and Just for the Summer made my favourites as well. This is the year I finally read In a Jam!
