How times have changed. In County Durham, during the winter of 62/63, after the first big snowfall, my father walked a mile through 5 foot deep snow drifts to do his shift at the nearby colliery. And he wasn't the only one to turn up for work.

I thought our 'dear leader' had just given the train drivers a rather decent pay rise? (I know, it was Rachel from accounts, but you know what I mean). There is an answer: sack 'em!
During my working life, I was at work when the office was nearly empty, with others claiming they couldn't get the car out of the driveway, because of snow! Many times, my boss(es) would remark that it was virtually pointless me being there, because nobody else had turned up (they never let me go home though!)
I hear of things like this from time to time, but it appears to me that nobody wants to work nowadays, but they want money.....they have sh*t for brains. And this is on top of discovering that some of our civil servants are working from the beach! Incredible.

So rail drivers told not to turn up for work. It won't really affect rail services between Worcester and Hereford as the rail service between the two can be non existent. I have work colleagues and have heard other people say how trains are cancelled and late. I dare not use the train on the Hereford to Birmingham route at present as usually you can get to Birmingham in the morning but no guarantee of getting a train home as its the afternoon /evening when trains seem to stop running. Havn't been to Brum on the train for ages as no guarantee of a return sevice. Can't risk it. Yet the drivers have had a good pay increase. Its like everything these days. The prices go up but the quality of service plummets👇☹️

And we no longer clear snow off our footpaths because it might make them slippery. Also are these the same train drivers who were immediately rewarded, for making life difficult for the last government, with increased pay as soon Starmer and his team entered nr 10?

I am no lover of Labour or Kier Starmer, I can assure you, but I would like to make one comment if I may. My wife needs two knee replacements but is seriously overweight. She has been told that she has to lose a lot of weight before the surgery can be carried out but it was CAREFULLY explained to us that artificial knees are nowhere near as strong or long-lasting as artificial hips and even in normal circumstances might only last 5 years or so. Much less than that if the patient is overweight. We have both accepted this as fact and I do not find any problem with this as a policy. I still love our NHS and a few years ago I needed an artificial hip and from diagnosis to successful operation was just a few, short weeks. Most of the words that Starmer utters are pure nonsense and as a pensioner I have already fallen victim to his unfeeling actions, but on this one issue of knee replacements I think the NHS has probably got it right.

    Deny operations for smokers.
Using that logic if you need surgery after playing sports or crashing your car.
You would have to quit sports or quit driving before you can have an operation.
As it’s a choice to play sports.
    It’s a choice to drive.
Just like it’s a choice to smoke!

I just heard a comment about Liverpool dockers I worked for Salford docks and had a few trips to most of Liverpool docksive taken twenty tons of one hundred weight bags ie four hundred to be told by a checker there’s you set driver unload them there while ten dockers sat around watching another time I took a fifty ton boxed machine to the same dock and had ten divers fighting who would put two slings on the box for a crane to lift it and get tonage bonus laziest bastards I’ve ever come across in fifty years of driveing and that’s a lot of dock work I could write a book on dockersscotland to tilbury and all London docks

What demonstrates 'entitlement' more than expecting another group of people (lower paid) to clear the paths for the 'aristocracy' of Labour? Only when the menial task has been comleted are they prepared to make their way to work. I wonder what Health & Safety provisions have to be met to allow menial workers to clear the paths?
