Moldygreenbean thanks!
THANK YOU!

Endless thanks.
This is helpful thanks
You know this is in the description you didn’t have to go through all this work or copy and paste it.
everyone gets their sounds from rts games i guess
RTS games just use a ton of stock sounds. The Civilization games used them a lot as well (e.g. the battleship sound is in the video) - Civ II and Alpha Centauri also used a ton of stock footage for the wonder cinematics, as well as stock sound effects. I miss the old style with all the crazy creative ways Microprose/Firaxis and Westwood created the ambience of their games by bodging together random stuff.
@@nathangamble125 Westwood had some great choices for death screams, although I can't find a video of just the ones from Tib Sun...
Warcraft 3 had sooo many sounds you can also hear from other sources youd think it was the original
Nathan Gamble Sid Meier 🐐🐐🐐
maybe the directors are gamers
when you recognize the sound effect and you hear it over and over again and it feels extremely awkward
It's not really awkward, it's just really fascinating, it always makes me wonder how would sound designers get these sound effects and I want to own them so bad.
@@HajimeKomaeda Most of these are from the many libraries put out by Sound Ideas. The General 6000 library has been used in like every movie, show, and game that's ever existed lol
@@HajimeKomaeda Theres a widely used sound effect a friend of mine made, its an electronic whine that was recorded by having someone hold an electric drill and pulling the trigger while holding the chuck so it rotates slowly and lets out a overloaded whine. Some people get very obsessed with sound effects too there was a podcast where audio engineers were talking about the specific sound effect and how it 'was probably made' with purely software. it was rather funny to hear people discussing all the methods when the mudane nature of it was so apparent.
I feel like I've seen you everywhere
Its like a switch that instantely breaks your immersion lol
I used to play a lot of Doom and Age of Empires when I was little, and I was always like "hold on, I've heard this before", but I was never quite sure. I watched a few movies over the following years and keeped hearing the same sounds.
This video is all I wanted.
hearing the Doom door sound always takes me out of a movie xD
Ya I have to say I feel the same for sure on this. That howie scream I always would think of StarCraft.
Sounds like Crazy Diamond from Jjba
Yeah, Jesus, people ripped DooM effects alot
@Pizel Logic And nobody even cares lmao.
Whenever I hear Howie scream I burst laughing, it’s one of the funniest scream sound effects I’ve ever heard
I recognize it as the scream in the Ahh! Real Monsters intro
20:08 Dogs making the Wilhelm Scream. lol.
Lol
These sound effects made the dog different
they had the voice changer thing tho
I forgot how to breathe help
The only thing I can say about it is
Aaaaaaaaough!
The Doom Door sound effect is also used in the force awakens when rey gets off her speeder to get a quarter portion for unkar plutt.
Last week they were a half a portion each
and its also used in black mesa for the tau cannon
Just heard the Doom door sound in JoJo Part 4
DORA? more like DOORA!
stfu
I specifically came to this video because the Icon of Sin sound was in part 1
@@richardc.mongler1029 no u
@@Beansman-gp3ws which episode?
Finally a compilation of that darn police radio girl. I've noticed that damn lady all my life saying the same thing in about a 1000 different show and films lol
SmokingSpoon But we gotta respect that damn lady for using her whole life for that shit
Me too! First in SimCity 3000
And let's not forget this other ubiquitous police radio sound effect
ua-cam.com/video/afnR1C7HTh8/v-deo.html
I feel so relieved that other people notice those things too hahah... Seems most people will think you're a weirdo for noticing those overused sfx xD
14148 avenue
The door hinge sound at 38:34 brought me here. The scene is from 24, s03e18 (6am -7am) at about 31m19s into the episode. I have been planning on making a compilation video of the door hinge sound, because it has been bothering me for YEARS. So thank you I guess.
I just heard it in evangelion and im really bothered because I recognized it inmediately
I recognise it from the SpongeBob video games
Deus Ex
It was in diary of a wimpy kid dog days
It’s in The Grand Budapest Hotel at about 50:05. I’ve been hearing it everywhere FOR YEARS
The chronosphere sound is also used in TF2, when a sentry is destroyed.
Yes, I've included it in my new video, check it out!
SENTRY DOWN!
yeah I've been wondering about it. it is used in many things like final fantasy dissidia (Cloud omnislash attack), chainsaw man episode 4 (when aki summons kon), metal gear solid 1 (when liquid enters metal gear), dawn of war 1 (orbital bombardment), katekyo hitman reborn (explosions), bleach movie (explosion), oddworld abe's exoddus (good ending teleport) but the one most distinct is in "Eternal Darkness - Chattur'gha's Maw Cutscene" (I'm sure i'm missing some :p )
Holy sh.. Poison crabs from Half-Life 2 having a high pitched Howie Scream blows my mind!
That was pretty clever
Man, doom is still present to this day.
Love that.
09:24 As a Zelda fan, I approve of this sound effect (when a certain character is involved).
I can see what you mean lmao
30:52 As I'm sure you guys know, the sound was also used in Star Fox Adventures (the Fire Blaster) as well as Pokemon Snap (Porygon flies out of a wall), Wind Waker (Gohma charging up her flames and Gohdan charging up his fireball attack), and Phantom Hourglass (Eox sending out a shockwave as he slams his fists into the ground).
I was hoping to see this comment, i knew it was a StarFox game and kept thinking Assault but knew better it wasnt.
X-files also had that metal door sound about a hundred times too lol
metal door is my personal most hated one you could string togehter a whole movie of shots using it.. and the all the computer/electricity sound effects are so overused
Yeah. Creaky door is in every fucking film! Immediately takes me out of the movie through such an obvious SFX.
bastardtubeuser I know right and it sometimes doesn't even make sense
SpongeBobs house doors
Personally, I'm gonna go with the police phone operator. Amazingly annoying lol
What about the metal door shutting sound effect or the jail door sliding shut sound effect
The police Radio one is really prevalent, there is hardly any other sound effect ever used in the sane context.
Bro got so mad he made a hour long youtube video all about them. I respect that
12:27 this is what I came for
Do you know what movie that is?
Jay it’s the movie “the ninth configuration”
@@lakermitdafrog6094 Thanks
(13:16 for the actual sound effect)
_AAAHH!!! Real Monsters_ :)
I love this video, so much time and effort. That was fun to watch ! Your commentary about the reindeer cracked my up. x) Great job man. o/
"No, they aren't. They are imps from Doom" (28:54)
I remember the Howie Scream so well from Last Action Hero. I was in elementary school and went around doing the scream on the playground.
I recently discovered that we still have those CDs from Sound Ideas lying around in our archive. So many in fact they occupy multiple storage cabinets.
Of course these days everything is on HDD...and sometimes those samples find their way into modern productions.
14:59 I never caught that one before now
I've heard that Babadook scream in many more games and movies. It always pulls me out of it because of how distinct it is.
You could make a series of these, one hour long episodes, just for the Wilhelm scream 😂
1:00:00 This blue jay sound give me a feeling of 3D rendering of forests in the early 90's. realistic textures and pixelated textures, plastic glitter textures, slightly blurry screen, realistic models and animated models and sudden movements with motion blur
Poison Headcrab used Howie Scream just sped up? Wow.
how about that one gun reloading sound
@Adam Demeter i was thinking more like the generic pump action shotgun sound effect
You mean the cs 1.6 3rd person generic reload sound?
The Quake Dog sfx was also from Shadow Dancer on SEGA arcades!
I hope we can find an honour the voice actors and foley artists who made all these wonderful stock sounds. Memes and media would not be what they are today without them
That mountain lion sound effect is so common that I thought it was just an instinctual sound every one of them made.
Doom used so many of these sound effects it’s honestly amazing. These stock sound effects sound better on old games due to hardware limitations. They feel more distinct sometimes. Great video nonetheless!
I’m just waiting for the hl2 fast zombie scream
@Adam Demeter what timestamp?
Howie Scream but high pitched and sped up
15:10
There's another police radio sound effect I've also heard everywhere. It's like a woman's voice, super compressed, going "Mah Mah-Mah-Mah, code 6." I've never known what the first four syllables say.
The reason these sound effects are so "overused" is because people like those sounds. I'm not criticizing you or anything, I just wanted to clear something up. Good job making this video btw!
Actually, it's just because a lot of sound designers back then happened to use the same stock sound libraries.
Thanks, I like these sounds too, but it can be a little disappointing when you are watching a serious movie and you hear some monster from your favorite video game :D It just ruins the illusion sometimes.
no, most of these are really bad. Especially all those explosion and elecricity sounds.
Love how all of these clips are out of context
Haha those c&c screams
Yeah 😂
Thank you Anna for putting together all these sounds we used to hear all of our life!
Yeah, everything comes from or reminds me of Command & conquer; it's great!
The Eagle sound was also the Gryphon in Warcraft
Any time I hear Doom doors, it pulls me right out of whatever I'm watching.
lmao many of these sounds originated from video games amazing
Also that one cat noise whenever someone throws something when they're not looking
I realized it's here around 9:48
58:14 That clip killed me, Snipes kicks his head despite having already thrown a knife into his throat/chest/somewhere that looked fatal 😂
The opening metal door sound is so ridiculous. It's one of the few here that I have been aware of for YEARS. I can't believe it's still used. Everytime I hear it I feel like it was snuck in as a joke.
i was just playing Sonic Adventure 2 and i KNEW the electric beetle sound effect sounded familiar. turns out, i'm pretty sure it's the Tesla Coil
I have also found two more instances of the quake dog' s death:
-In the movie "Sniper", when Beckett and Miller find that pastor-whatever. But now that I watched the whole scene again, I think I am wrong.
-In the arcade game "Shadow dancer" from SEGA, when the dog dies, it is DEFINITELY the same sound!
You missed the "dripping water sewer pipe" sound effect from Quake. I hear that one in movies and TV shows so damn much...
0:27 the first 2 seconds of that electricity sound is THE MOST OVERUSED ELECTRICITY SAMPLE EVER. It was fucking everywhere, in every single kids show
I have been waiting my whole life to watch a video like this, thank you
8:45 ITS LITERALLY THE MW3 DOGS KILLSTREAK🤯
that wooden door opens is EVERYWHERE
the fact that the wilhelm scream goes on for longer than any other tells you they need to stop fucking using it
Cool video. Kawoosh sound was also used in Swarm Assault game.
Not exactly "sounds", but
Half-life soundtrack: "reverse cymbal" sound,
Q2 OST: beginning of "stealth frag"
are also kinda overused
most gun sounds (fire, reload, etc) are overused as well
"platform moves" (edited) is also used for DOOM's elevators
Doom Door spotted in Drake&Josh and Ben 10: Omniverse.
14:36 Right after I saw that scene on Prison Break Season 4 Episode 5, I instantly searched up most overused sound effects because I recognized the sound, like alot!
The "Monster Sound" is King Kong from the 1976 remake :)
This was so beautifully done by you. Amazing job!
Only thing I really want to know is where to find these sound effects. A lot of them are very neat.
you forgot the gunshot, the crowd cheering, the forest birdsong, the wind howling, the cooing baby, the cat screech, the diddy laugh, and that dog bark and crisp crunch i hear in commercials all the time
9:24 Spyro has ingrained this sound into every crease of my brain.
I could think of sooo many more movies with these stock sounds.
Cougar sound's also in a game called Abuse, a MS-DOS game developed by Crack Dot Com.
I notice these all the time. It's painful. That metal door/gate noise especially.
Sorry, those C&C death screams will always be a classic.
I love the wilhelm scream. It’s like a movie director injoke
It's so funny when you show this to someone and they think it's fake.
1:22 if you played a angry bird game
You probably heard this sound effect
Also the pig sounds are from angry birds too so the pig sounds are obviously is from a sound library because it sound weird and it is never used in newer games
Congratulations Anna for putting all of this together!
PLEASE, Can someone tell me the name of this sound? It's before the plaform sound. I've searching for years and I never find it!
35:44
Try Platform moves game sound effect idk if that will work but that's my best bet
It’s a sound by Mike McDonough he sold to Sound Ideas that they included on their Series 6000 (or Series 4000, I can’t remember)
Here’s a really cool video about it
ua-cam.com/video/aYg4wv3fPj8/v-deo.html
The doom door sound effect also appeared in the game Black Mesa when you first pick up the experimental tau cannon in the questionable ethics chapter.
is the reason they are used so much because its free, the camel sounds and the gate door sounds!!! every friken movie or show
How long did it take you to do this ???
About 2-3 years.
Anna Firol you are underrated
@@annafirol1347 It took you 3 years to give so much information to the public and it's the only video you've uploaded so far. I can't wait for more. Subscribed.
@@CrackThoseClaws After more than 2 years, you can watch a new 16 minutes-long video, uploaded by me :)
the Counterstrike original Deagle sound is everywhere too
also "kobold dies" the spinner spider enemies in Unreal return to napali make that sound when they die
Yes, they are in my new movie. Also, a ferret has the kobold die sound too in The Big Lebowski. Which is a sound of a pig.
What about the baby one? It's so overused!
yeah that crying sound effect that baby kate makes in arthur.
also used in tawog in the rival episode and we bare bears in the pizza cave episode.
44:56 I heard this same exact sound in ninjago season episode, on Netflix, it is the 19 :57 mark.
1:57 That was also used in Doom 1 and 2.
It is at 2:20
3:47 literally any movi3 before the 90s that had an explosion
the fucking metal gates opening. holy shit
Howie & Wilhelm scream is such Gold & best meme sound
The Doom door sound effect was used in Black Mesa (a Half-Life 1 fanmade) for a gun sound.
damn so much work put into this video! awesome!
The doom door sound effect is also in DK Jungle Climber DS, in one of the bosses. It's used every few seconds and it's quite bothersome after a while lol
You forgot the Atari 2600 Pacman and Donkey Kong effects in movies, tv shows, and commercials every time someone is playing a video game. They don't care if their playing an arcade game, Playstation, or a handheld.
x-blast is also used as tank/cannon firing sound in Empire Earth
I also heard a lot of Empire Earth explosion sounds in documentaries and such
The magic arrows was heard by me in one of the Hotel Mario cutscenes when the Princess disappears.
The cougar sound is also part of Ice Hockey's Florida Panthers goal celebration.
The Spider Mastermind sound from Doom is used alot too
It's been used on Smash Bros. Melee, South Park, alot more
that police radio one is absolutely everywhere
Best video on UA-cam I needed this.
You forgot the one that was in every action movie starting in the late 90's and onward. If you play the final boss battle in the video game, Doom, you're in the room with this giant demon head on the wall. The demon head shoots these boxes out of it's mouth, that then become monsters when the hit the ground. When the demon shoots one of the boxes out of it's mouth, it makes this loud, "SHWOOOP!!!" sound. Starting in the late 90's and especially into the 2000's, every time that there was an explosion or some massive weapon was fired, or something like that, they put in that exact same, "SHWOOP!!!". It still continues to be everywhere to this day. For a while there, it was as common to hear as the Wilhelm Scream.
Dude, it's already covered in 30:52.
The imp fireball sound effect was also used as a spell casting sound in Morrowind.
And there's another overused crash sound, which it used in Bad Boys, Sonic X S1E01, 24 S1E16, Pure Danger, Recoil (1998), L.A. Heat (used in various episodes), Jaws, and Iron Man 3.
The scientist from crash bandicoot 1 also does the howie scream, a bit pitched up
The Quake zombie sound is actually an angry cat. Thank ChristianIce for that fact. Check out his Quake Eargasm mod.
How did you do this? Did you take notes for years whenever you heard a familiar sound?
22:10 These sounds were also used in Vampire Savior and Mortal Kombat 3.
If I remember right Terminator 3 had an explosion during the first car chase scene, where the cougar sound effect popped up.
I guess all the door manufacturers are making a killing because people are attracted to their distinctive squeaks.
Today I watched Rick and Morty and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
I recognised:
Wilhelm Scream (Rick and Morty). This one's all over the place, but probably most memorable in Star Wars (I think it's in every episode at least once).
Howie Screen (Rick and Morty). I always remember this as the academy sound from Starcraft.
Kawoosh (Both). I remember this one as the laser attack sound from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
There's another sound effect that's not on this list. I'm not really sure how common it is, but it's used in the Monty Python Black Knight fight, and it's the sound effect for the legion attack in Civilization II. It's the sound of a sword hitting and then scraping against metal - sort of like "hu. sho-weshu". I have no idea if that sound effect has a proper name.
