here's something I don't know if anyone knows about. Edward was in that exact position when he was retired by the Furness Railway. Edward WAS the premier express engine at the time he was built. Unfortunately, due to steaming issues he was cast aside in the early 20th Century. He was given a second chance on the NWR in 1915. He knows how Spencer would feel. That gives so much weight to his conversations with not only Gordon, but Spencer.
A emotional and heartwarming story! It almost seemed to remind me of Flying Scotsman having to go through the problems of being in the care of different owners during preservation life before being handled greatly in the National Railway Museum. I feel very sorry for Spencer when the Duke and Duchess couldn't afford to keep him because of changes on the Other Railway and many other costs. And the way he feels reflect on all of us having to go through several changes in life that we have to take time to adapt. I love how Edward was able to talk it through with him if he ever needs support as well. Maybe Spencer could make another great edition to the NWR.
This is definitely something you don't see everyday: Spencer becoming part of The North Western Railway... As far as I know, only 3 other people have done something like this: 2 other UA-camrs, and one person on Wattpad...
Interesting seeing Spencer not being a private engine for the duke and duchess anymore really interesting concept everyone did an amazing job splendid I may say
I have to say I noticed the fact what Spencer heard was “Too old” when what they said was “too expensive”. But I really did feel for him. I hope we see more stories about him. It would be interesting to see how he gets on.
@@wellsworthjunction I agree...having an LNER A4 Pacific as part of the NWR Fleet would be AWESOME!!!! It's the same thing in my stories on Wattpad, especially in a new one that I'm currently working on: Spencer becomes part of the NWR after British Railways stripped around 95% of all coal bunkers and water towers, and made a law that Diesels and Electric Engines are to be the only Engines still in service, as well as any Steam Locomotives to only be allowed to use for Railtours or Static Display. The Duke and Duchess argued that they should be allowed to keep Spencer, but BR threatened that if they didn't follow their orders, they would scrap Spencer. This leads to the Duke and Duchess selling Spencer to the North Western Railway, but instead of being bitter about it, he is actually rather understanding and accepting of their decision, and he holds absolutely no resentment towards them. His attitude and behaviour take a complete 180, and he goes from being a snobbish, arrogant, stuck-up prick to a hard-working, proud, and humble Engine. In the aftermath of British Railways's new "Anti-Steam" Law, many different Steam Engines are purchased by the North Western Railway, which has Sodor, Misty Island, and The Isle Of Man as its territory, giving them plenty of space for all the new Engines. Several older classes of Diesel Locomotives are also purchased, as well as additional Rolling Stock, ranging from Modern British Railways Express Coaches to older Midland Railway and Great Eastern Railway single-axel Local Coaches, as well as various different types of Goods Wagons. As well as the Sodor Steamworks, the Old Workshop near Crovan's Gate is also restored, as well as several smaller Maintenance & Repair Workshops at the bigger Depots and Harbours: Vicarstown receives an upgrade in the form of a small Engine Workshop on one side of the Goods Yard, with enough space for a maximum of 4 Engines. The same thing happens at the Stations of Tidmouth, Wellsworth, and Knapford, except for 2 differences: Tidmouth Station sports its RWS look, and the Workshop at Wellsworth can only have 2 Engines at a time, due to it being slightly smaller than the others. This was suggested after The Fat Controller realised that the 3 Main Workshops wouldn't be enough, due to the NWR now having close to 700 Engines, so it was decided to add the various smaller Workshops around the Railway. The Earl Of Sodor's Estate Railway also receives several new Engines and Rolling Stock. After several decisions, the Engines that are part of the Estate Railway are: Glynn Stephen Millie Theo Fergus Iron Duke Iron Venus Iron Neptune Jupiter Roger (S&M #4, Box Tank like Clive, Neil and Matthew) Proteus Welsh Pony (Duke's Brother, painted dark green) Palmerston (Duke's Brother, painted maroon) Knapford Harbour and Brendam Docks also receive Workshops of their own, but they are slightly larger than the others, due to being the largest Shipping Ports on the Railway. The Ports and Harbours at Elsbridge, Harwich, Arlesbergh, Kirk Ronan, and Norramby also receive Workshops similar to the smaller ones at Tidmouth, Knapford, Wellsworth and Vicarstown.
