Because there are many more really good musicians out there, (like this guy here) than there are big record label openings. I'm always surprised that people don't realise how many really good musicians there are out there. This is one reason why I don't like what is called the "music industry". Musicians aren't necessarily picked for how good they are, and once they sign on, they, how they are presented, and their music is highly controlled by their handlers. There are some really great musicians in that position, but there are also a lot of really great musicians who never really are heard. The popular music industry has basically mesmerized our culture to be focused on that as the be all and end all, and so there is very little room or value given to musicians who aren't a part of the "music star" phenomenon. It's really only a modern phenomenon. Before that you had just pure and unmolested music where people are heard solely because they are good musicians and have something special to offer. It's not a matter of being famous. It's about musicians having a real place in society and because of that, being able to have the time and energy to do what they do because the culture supports and values what they do. Among those, the really great ones would still stand out and be more known, but only because of the music, and not because of huge money propaganda people hijacking the arts.

@@RodricKing When I was at high school dances back in the 60s and they played this song for slow dancing, the teachers would go around and make sure we were 6 inches apart to make sure we weren’t all rubbing up against each other. The people who are the judges dont have a clue about talent. If you scream you have a voice. If you look at the voice they are so busy preening themselves they dont hear or see the talent on stage.
