- A former Metropolitan Police officer convicted of multiple counts of rape told one of his victims she wouldn’t be believed because he was in the force.
Cliff Mitchell, 24, of Putney was found guilty of ten counts of rape, three counts of rape of a child under 13, one count of kidnap and breach of a non-molestation order following a trial at Croydon Crown Court on Wednesday, 21 February.
He was a serving PC in Hounslow when a number of the offences were committed, with Police saying the child rapist commited "brazen abuse of power."
TalkTV's Vanessa Feltz is joined by Nusrit Mehtab, former Met Police Superintendent, and Nick Freeman, a lawyer, to discuss the case.

Those in charge have done away with the training school and the rigorous initial residencial course followed by the 2 year probationary period in the name of saving money.
I bet that monster Couzins was known to be dodgy when he was in the Atomic Police Force and we all know that its easier to give a glowing report and let him transfer to the Met. It then became their problem.
The drive to recruit a more diverse force regardless of proper vetting also adds to the downward spiral.

There are many ex-services people who would be ideal for the Police force, just as they were years ago, and far more suitable for the job than the DEI and Alphabet people they are hiring now.

They turned me down at the vetting stage because I had lived in Australia and labelled me a 'threat to the organisation'

Up here in Liverpool the training is not done on line there is a training school and they spend months training that’s why there tougher up here not like the met police there scared of there own shadow

I used to tell my lad that if he was in trouble or lost, find a policeman. Today I tell him that is the last person you should find. It's a shame because I'm sure there are really good police officers who get tired of this. And I bet, the good ones are the ones leaving in their droves, why would you stay with this and the obviously failed leadership

The Police Recruitment issue is solely with the FCO who carry out Vetting for these Specialist Officers and have been shown to fast track applicants through without carrying out sufficient and required background checks hence why inappropriate people have passed through the process

I would ask why Cressida Dick was made to stand down 2 years ago when praised for her work by the Prime Minister for her achievements but forced to resign by a Muslim Mayor with vague reasons which could be described as a collision of faiths more than failings.
Using the logic of the good Mayor can we expect him to sack the current head of the police force when the problems have escalated enormously of the same kind and worse.
this stupidity has to stop of hiring people to make the quarters this is why the police are in this position we need to bring in serious discipline actions to the chiefs who are letting this happen we need training schools and years training instead of hiring without full checks

As far as I'm aware, each force has it's own recruitment process and ways of doing their training/supporting probationary officers, from my experience. Admittedly it was several years ago, but I'm not aware of a national recruitment process, unless things have changed a lot..... what happens in the Met may not reflect what happens in other forces/parts of the service.....

When an individual applies for a job as a part time assistant in a school or college they have to go through all sorts of hoops and background checks, just to drive students around in a mini bus. The way police officers(constables) are recruited is a scandal when there is not even a face to face interview! The Met. is now recruiting immigrants to the front line who are unable to read or write English, so how are they going to understand the LAWS of this country? They are not given background checks as to where they are from or if they have criminal records! It is no wonder the country has slipped into the lawless mess it is now in when these are the people who are in positions of authority!
I once heard its routine for sacked police officers to just work for another force.

I was younger. I had marijuana plants in my backyard. There was never a prospect of getting anything for sale from them. Yet after being caught, the Chief Constable in Hull said you can apply for a job (I was at university). If I were to become a copper, I would squat on the moral high ground, somewhere.

Yet I was rejected at the vetting stage because I had spent a couple of years living in Australia. Wonder if it had anything to do with me being a white British born and bred male with no criminal history!?
It's a common reason to be rejected if you've spent several years abroad in the previous 5 years.
