When youre done with entry level off roading and you really wanna have fun make your next ride a RZR or Canam or any of the UTV's out there. The Rivian is made for the malls, snow and ice, not 4x4ing, you're going to ruin it on those kinda roads. It doesn't have the suspension or proper clearance, rock guards, not to mention tires and rims. I bought a Canam Maveric in April, started off roading in Silverton Colorado... now I don't even think about EUC's anymore. I never thought I'd find something more fun than my Commander. I enjoy your videos, thank you for all the work you put into making them. It was fun to see your family and friends having so much fun. Enjoy!
We were all newbies once on the trail. But you are correct, the tech will NOT get you home in some cases. Sometimes you need a shovel, tow straps and winch etc to get out of a jam. A fun family outing can quickly turn into a nightmare for the unprepared. For a heavy rig like the Rivian I would always carry a tow strap, tire plug kit, spare tire and a reliable jack at minimum. People get obsessed with winching but the truth is it will rarely be used unless you are an avid mudder(most people quickly learn its the fastest way to damage your rig and will avoid it). Great vid! I will order mine once they start taking CCS charging more seriously in Idaho.
Learning to offroad is a lot like learning an euc. You can research as much as you like before you give it a go but you ultimately learn the process when actually doing it and placing yourself out of your comfort zone is when you naturally react and learn properly.
Absolutely great video Jimmy, I bought and modified a Suzuki Jimny and did my first crazy off road recently, lots of fun. After the first pin stripes are out of the way... Im a lot more relaxed about it. Looking forward to ordering a Rivian when its available down under 🇦🇺 I'll be getting the snow peak kitchen 🥰
This video made me regret not buying a 100 series when I had a chance to 😂. Back in the day all cars were trail ready, it’s cool to see makers getting back to trails. Once super capacitor tech makes it to EVs, the market will forever change.
As if he was totally oblivious to off-road vs road tires. I think you have been spending way too much time in/on the water with that water hover thingy. Just saying. But the girls had fun and that is what counts.
Yea Jimmy you can imagine how much harder the motors are working when tires are aired down and your climbing steep stuff just eating up your battery !! See you got a little trail rash too !
Its quite interesting how similiar scooters and other PEVs are versus full size electric vehicles... Its really just a Battery, Throttle, Controller, and Motor - the high level architecture of a electric scooter is essentially the same as a electric car - just wildly different voltages / amps obviously... Im sure that the eventual future state of car modifying is going to be people throwing aftermarket controllers etc in there electric cars for more power, similiar to what people do with gas powered cars now with exhausts / intakes etc
When I take my old SH Forester on the beach I'm usually running 13-15PSI and my economy goes over 25L/100 (9ish MPG). I was wondering how the Rivian would handle with it's huge mass and trying to displace it with those poor low profile tyres.
Has anyone ever compared the speedometer of a Rivian with say Google maps/gps to verify accuracy? In my test drive the speedometer was off, and the difference increased the faster we went... I'd like to hear if others experienced this as well.
I get mine in a few days, and one day my son will tell his friend: “Apparently, you don’t understand. He never drives it, he just rubs it with a diaper.”
Only mistake I saw was taking that truck on that road. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. It reminded me of watching WrongWay destroy a Gotway wheel... just because he can.
Love how your videos just make me want to get on my V11 and ride and explore all day
Electric adventures!

tow strap, tire plug kit, spare tire and a reliable jack... we had them all! It's a fun time, but definitely need to be prepared.

It's not a bad idea to get 2 sets of wheels (road + off-road). Most can only go off-roading during a season or two.
I may have to do that!
Love the off roading content!

Great video! Luckily wheels n tires are an easy upgrade.
Very true!
Ha , yeh, the Blue trails in that guide are tough for street tires and setup . Your Rivian is so awesome! Just found your channel.
Nice video! I thought you handled the off-road pretty well for your first time and it's great to see the PPF and ceramic coat doing their job

We all had fun and I learned a lot. It was a good weekend trip.

It really is!

Battery usage was high, but my gas friend’s mpg usage was also high!
@@freshlycharged well yes I was gonna mention that...they can get as little as 3 mpg !!
@@tswinter1 That's right! Incredible! I did the entire camping, off roading and driving weekend without having to charge!
Amazing video!!! The camera never does the terrain justice.
Glad we didn’t break the Rivian! And next time we’ll do something a little less spicy. 🌶️
🌶🥵 👍
dude you didn't do too bad for first time off roading man! Its not easy... Yankee Hill is actually tough!!! ESPECIALLY with 21 inch road wheels.

We need good after market 20 in off road wheel options !
I'd never take a truck like that on an off roading.
I'd buy an old beat up jeep just for that.
That's not too bad. Try the 22" sport wheels + tires. :P

I hope you have the full size spare tire. If not life can turn very unpleasant after a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.
Got a full size spare!
In one trip you've probably spent more time off-roading in your sweet Rivian than many derps in their "overlanding" Tacomas
me encantan tus videos!! saludos desde chile!! falto un scooter en ese off roading XD
En 3 días, empanadas de pino con chicha, un pañuelo y cueca :)
If you do decide to make offroading a regular thing, just give up on worrying about scratches. They will come.
That’s what I’m learning… so painful though! 😅
I find it easier to accept if I just call them racing stripes :)
@@williagr brilliant!
@@freshlycharged Don't ruin your Rivian, it's a beautiful truck.

Software update just fixed this

HA!
The bare minimum of going off roading is to put on all terrain tires. The best is to use real off road tires.
Only mistake I saw here was letting someone write on the dirty paint..lol even if it is paint protected, that's a big no no in my book.
Yeah. Luckily it came right off the PPF.
Good thing Jimmy got the self healing wrap.
