First cruise I went on was Independence about 14 years ago. Had a window sea view on Deck 3 and loved it!! Short walk to all the amenities - a quick trip upstairs for pizza for example… It’s all good in my book.

I've used Deck 2 in the past for my disabled mother. She has always loved the level of care provided by the staff that is clearly used to helping handicapped cruisers.
I do agree that going up for meals can be a bit frustrating at time, but well worth the wait.

We booked five RC Ocean View rooms on Deck 2 for our family cruise with lots of grandkids. We had no worries about the kids sitting on a balcony. We had no room issues that cruise, but it does take a while to get to the top of the ship.

I Had mid ship deck 3 on symphony , and it AWFUL it was right above the stairs you take to leave the ship and go to port and every stop of the cruise i was awaken super early by the crew setting up the stairs so people could go into port, around 6-7am , WORST Cabin ever.

Sounds like you selected a really challenging location. Sorry to hear that. I've had a similar experience, on my first cruise. Thereafter, anytime booking low decks I select my own room, which has been very good.

I went on a cruise last year on Rhapsody of the Seas and booked two linked outside cabins on deck 2 mid-ships, myself and the wife in one, and our 7 and 8 year olds next door. Best cabin ever. And ship for that matter, we loved it. I have been on many different ships and cabin types and big is not always better, the large window at sea level was amazing, just sitting in the window and watching the waves. The kids loved it as well. Deck 10 can feel very far removed from the sea, it’s a long way down and the height and waves can be deceptive. Likewise, we loved the ship, big enough but not too big, friendly, plenty to do, very well kept given its age and amazingly modern, again given its age. If you enjoy traditional cruising this is a lovely ship. So that would be my ideal cabin. And two cabins is way better than one when you have two kids, so again given a choice between a mini-suite for 4 or two outside or even inside rooms, I’d take the two linked cabins every time. Also means you get two bathrooms, which is also a bonus when trying to get ready to go out.

I love the lower decks, oceanview, because of the movement issues and I like being closer to the water level. However, I also enjoy spending time on my balcony and usually lowest level balconies are on decks 5/6. Depends on my budget and time of year. In the Caribbean in the hottest part of summer, I avoid balconies due to heat and enjoy watching the ocean from a cool stateroom porthole. But in Nov-April, balconies are nice! I do spend time in my room so a view is essential for me, but that's not true for many who like to spend time at pools and more public venues.

I have to disagree with the long waits for the elevators. Normal wait time plus the elevator is empty so you will not have to wait for a second elevator when on deck 2.

We tend to always book ocean view on lower decks. We don't spend much time in our cabin, so those rooms work best for us. Our October cruise is a GTY Ocean View, and we're super excited to find out where we will be. 😊

Ocean view on Deck 3 of Ovation was fine-most of the HC accessible cabins are mid deck so we were two cabins from the front elevators--convenient and rather seasick friendly (plus it was $2400 for a June Alaska cruise is what was a pretty nice size room..324 sq ft)…elevator waits weren’t too bad since we were right near the Casino and Music Hall (wasn’t too noisy, believe it or not)

Our first cruise, we booked inside guaranteed on Freedom, and had a great room. Next year, we did it again for Liberty (or maybe it was the other way around...), and got deck 2 near the front gang way. It was not great. So noisy in the mornings. The only good thing was the quick return after port.

I was on the mouse cruise line, and discovered our inside cabin had a lot of vibration. They offered to move us and showed us the room, deck 3 Oceanview. Forgetting the actual ship we were on, having a low deck gives a smoother ride. Looking out the window, you could see the height of the waves, where being 10 decks higher it just looks flat. Surprisingly, these cabins were right off the main entrance to the MDR, through an normally unsean opening. Other cruise lines have something similar, cabins off a busy area. There was zero foot traffic in our area. As long as you are not next to a noisy area that is part of the ships operation, these lower decks are quiet with very few people out and about.

Too much noise midship! The best place is at the very front or back of the ship with staterooms on all sides up and down. If you stay on the lowest decks you will definitely feel the vibration of the ship when it docks. While I loved my quiet cabin on deck 2 with an aft facing window, every morning the ship docked in port all my toiletries fell off the shelves from the vibrations. Forget about sleeping late.

I have a deck three aft ocean view room booked for our next cruise. Same location as a previous cruise. Surrounded by other cabins. It does get a little noisy when the ship is tying up in port as the space on deck one is where the crew works the ropes. I never noticed any motion but that rarely is an issue. It was convenient getting back to our cabin after excursions as often times embarkation was on deck two or three. Getting a room at the far aft eliminated to foot traffic outside my door at night.

Did an Ocean-View cabin on a Radiance-class ship recently, deck 3 (so lowest +1) and it was a great experience. Significantly less expensive than a balcony, but still had a great view. Yes, it was a wait for the elevators to get up to the pools and Windjammer, but not a deal breaker by any means.

No interior cabins for us. We have stayed in the ultra spacious Oceanview on Freedom of the Seas. Great views. We were right over the helipad at the bow of the ship. Since we have been on Harmony of the Seas and stayed in the Central Park balconies, we are spoiled. Went this past January and now we are going again in September. We also just booked a Central Park balcony on Symphony of the Seas in January. Those cabins are awesome. Highly recommend them. Keep cruising 🛳️❤

I know you're a rv guy but carnival recently implemented cove balcony rooms, which are on deck 2. I did that, mid ship on the carnival vista. I really liked it, hardly felt any ship movement and it was easy to get to mdr. they advertise that you're close to the water and it ain't joking.... you can feel the sea spray. It was the cheaper option too. I wish RC had balc rooms on deck 2.

We have always chosen the balcony since our first cruise. That was to Alaska and we enjoyed the scenery from the comfort of the balcony. We also prefer mid ship location. Though not prone to seasickness, why chance it? Since then we've always gone with a balcony and mainly due to having a private space to enjoy the ocean views, the ports, etc., and just have a place to quietly relax.

On my first cruise, I had an inside cabin on deck... 4, I think? It was on a smaller NCL ship and we had a really good time. We were rarely in our cabin. On my second cruise, which was on a middling-to-large Royal ship, I stayed in a balcony. Wow. It was nice. It would be hard to go back to an inside cabin, but an ocean view cabin might be a nice middle ground. I would definitely give a lower deck ocean view cabin a try. Spending less money on a cabin means there's more money for excursions and activities, after all!

I tend to book inside cabins because if I want sun, or ocean air, or views, I go to the Solarium area and find a deck chair. I'm mostly in my cabin for showers, sleeping, clothes changes and souvenir storage. But my mom will not sail any ship without a balcony - I don't know why but she just absolutely won't book a trip without one. I personally don't think it's worth the extra money but it's ok - when we go together, I just get a balcony cabin lol

I booked an 8-day cruise at the last minute on Vision of the Seas and all that was left was an inside on Deck 3. This was my first time in a non-balcony cabin. My expectations were very low but it was much better than I thought. It was weird feeling vibrations and hearing water sloshing around I spent most of my time sitting on the promenade deck watching the waves. My legs got a good workout climbing to Deck 9 for the buffet. If I go on Vision again, I'd try to get an ocean view first. Balconies are few on Vision and are super expensive. I might do an interior again if the cruise is short.
