This is truly a beautiful and touching gift to the United States of America from a distant webmaster so far away in Australia! Thank you, Doug, for portraying the plight of so many immigrants who risked their lives to begin anew in a far away land with scant belongings in the early 1900's. It was so fitting that Neil's grandmother, Molly Rapaport was highlighted at 3:01 (age 12).
Timeline: There are approximately twenty (20) points in the timeline that I wish to note as follows:
0:12 - The flag of the United States of America waving in motion with red and white stripes (13 to signify the original states) and 50 stars in the upper left corner depicting the 50 states. 0:21 - Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota, an idea in 1923 by Gutzon Borglum taking 14 years to carve in the stone mountainside from 1927 - 1941. The four Presidents are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. 0:39 - The Liberty Bell that once rang in the Pennsylvania State House (Independence Hall) with the image on the right of The Statue of Liberty in New York. 0:50 - The Constitution of the United States of America in operation since 1789 "We The People" (Preamble). On the right of the screen is the U.S. Capitol where the Legislative and Judicial branches of the government reside. 1:07 - The White House is where the Executive Branch of the government resides. 1:15 - The National Anthem of the United States of America, song sheet of 'The Star Spangled Banner'. 1:24 - A split screen with the flag of the United States of America on the left side, and the Bald Eagle on the right side. The Bald Eagle was chosen as the National Symbol of the United States of America by Congress in 1782. 1:38 - A superimposed image of the Flag of the United States of America with the Statue of Liberty on the right and the poem written by Emma Lazarus in 1883 as shown at the end of the video at 5:41 and noted by Webmaster Doug in his notes above, before the lyrics of Neil's "America". 1:55 - Actual images of families arriving in Ellis Island, New York in the early 1900's with ships anchored at the harbour and at 2:01 is the Statue of Liberty. 3:01 - As indicated in my initial comment, Neil's young and beautiful grandmother, Molly Rapaport, who arrived in New York at the age of twelve. 3:44 - Ellis Island Immigration Centre. 4:14 - An actual 'Application for an Immigration Visa' dated August 31, 1921. 4:21 - A flag of the United States of America set up as a collage with various types of people of current day families that must have taken much time to produce. 4:48 - U.S. Citizenship papers and the flag in motion. 5:30 - A split screen showing an unusual image of folds of the flag, neatly arranged, filled in with individual faces of U.S.A. citizens and on the right side is an image of the Statue of Liberty. 5:35 - Emma Lazarus wrote 'The New Colossus' on November 2, 1883 to raise funds to build a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty (per Doug's notes). Emma's image is on the right of the screen with the head of the Statue of Liberty on the left. 5:41 - Emma Lazarus on the left with the 1883 Sonnets on the right of "The New Colossus" hand-written by Ema Lazarus. 5:51 - Ends with the flag of the United States of America in motion.
Hi Donita, Once again its taken me quite a while to respond to your detailed comments which serve to highlight the various aspects of this video. They present viewers with information that they may otherwise overlook. Thank you.
In truth, in the 9 plus years that I have been creating videos, it never dawned on me to create a video for the song "America". After all there it was in the Jazz Singer and again on Neil's 40th Anniversary 2012 DVD (at the Greek Theatre) - ua-cam.com/video/RrgCxSSwBto/v-deo.html
I decided on creating this video approximately a week prior to the 4th of July. A mad panic ensued for me to meet the deadline. After a week of great intensity, I was relieved to complete it on July 4, (in Australia). This left me the luxury of uploading it to be live on July 4 in the United States. My tribute to the country that opened its arms to millions of _tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free,_ including a brave, beautiful little 12-year old girl. This beautiful little girl gave the world Neil Diamond.💎

Hello Doug. What a wonderful video!! With that wonderful song by that wonderful singer, songwriter, musician, human - wondering if I should have put this in reverse order? 😊.
‘Read the first comment and I so agree with your response mentioning the likes of Jimmy Swaggart. We have these all over the place “representing” every religion under the sun, and most of them seem to be led by the need to become famous and amass wealth.
Your video! I cannot overlook mentioning those welcoming lines from Emma Lazarus' poem, so very welcoming and moving. It is so beautifully illustrative of a time of escape from drudgery, fear and poverty and a journey that was probably filled with doubt and apprehension but also hope, excitement, dreams of freedom, of a wondrous destination, a better life and all that we, today, cannot even imagine.
On another note, now I know where Neil Diamond got his fabulous looks! Well, I think I do. That photo of the beautiful face in the video, amidst the other images, could only have been of his grandmother? May I please be enlightened on this question. (I deeply admired my own grandmother too, who was widowed at an extremely young age with three children - a highly principled, proud, upright woman and teacher who worked so hard to raise her kids all by herself, having lost her husband in a tragic accident). But sorry for digressing.

The rot began with the likes of Jimmy Swaggart. In the ensuing decades many a false prophet motivated by sheer greed, has bled their “congregation” of millions. Their mantra to these gullible followers being that if you give generously to my organisation, God will reward you in kind… with wealth. Wealth _being_ their god.

Religion should be a thing between you and your God. Religion has no place in politics. Furthermore, “It was formalized in a 1905 law providing for the separation of church and state, that is, the separation of religion from political power. This model of a secularist state protects the religious institutions from state interference, but with public religious expression to some extent frowned upon.”
Until such time as religions cease to be *tax exempt,* totally free of the burden of contributing towards their respective nations, they have no right to involve or interfere with policy making, thereby holding the nation hostage to their beliefs. Take care.

Thanks for your comment David. Are you able to point to a better form of government? Dictatorship/Communism? Sadly, with all its inherent flaws, democracy, *_true democracy,_* is the best that there is on offer. On the other hand look at Russia and China, both dictatorships.
As an Australian living in Australia, I am reasonably content with our democracy. The ballot box decides on the party that forms government. Our Australian Electoral Commission is beyond reproach. The outcome of any election when confirmed is accepted by all parties.
We are blessed not to have what occurred in the United States in 2020 and the denials (deliberate lies) that continue to this day by those who lost. These same individuals, whilst not accepting the voice of the people, accept their own election results. The only problem that we have over here in Australia, and the same applies to the United States and the United Kingdom is the Rupert Murdoch influence. His "news" service is anything but news. It is in fact the propaganda arm of the Trump MAGA Republican Party (US), The Liberal (Conservative) and National Party (Australia) and the Conservative Party (UK). This propaganda arm gave us: Donald Trump (US - dumped since), Scott Morrison (Australia - dumped since) and Boris Johnson (UK - dumped since). All Murdoch failures.
